"So, when are you going to leave that woman? What are you still waiting for? Steffy can't even get pregnant. And she's not even a biological daughter of the Willson family!"
The voice was loud and confident, pushing David to finally abandon Steffy-the wife he had been married to for five years.
"Just be patient a little longer. I'm only waiting for the right time to tell your sister," David replied, trying to coax Evelyn, who was none other than Steffy's own sister.
"But I'm already pregnant! I don't want to carry this child alone!"
Those words struck like lightning-hitting Steffy, who had been standing behind the slightly open door all along.
She had come to surprise David.
Instead, she was the one who was shocked, overhearing the conversation between her husband and her own sister.
"Don't worry, sweetheart. I'm the father of your baby. You won't be alone. I'll divorce Steffy... tonight."
The door burst open as Steffy pushed it wide.
"Why wait until tonight? You can divorce me right now!" she said, struggling to hold back her tears.
She hid something behind her back.
"Oh, good. You finally found out on your own. That saves David the trouble of finding the right moment to divorce you," Evelyn said casually, flipping her hair as she sipped her coffee.
David froze in place, his face turning pale. Evelyn, on the other hand, looked completely calm-throwing a smug smile at her sister as if victory was already hers.
"I don't believe this..." Steffy's voice trembled. "You... my own sister. Evelyn, why would you do this to me?"
Evelyn crossed her legs arrogantly. "Because you're nothing in this family, Stef. And you know what? Not even a drop of Willson blood runs through your veins."
"What do you mean, Evelyn? Why am I not part of the Willson family?" Steffy was struck again by words that shattered her even further.
Evelyn pulled a sheet of paper from her bag.
"Read it. That's proof that you're not their biological daughter."
She handed Steffy the document-the DNA test result she had secretly arranged.
Steffy's hands trembled as she read it.
"You thought marrying David would secure your position? You were so wrong."
David tried to step closer. "Stef... just listen, this is all-"
"Silence!" Steffy snapped, stepping back, her eyes filled with tears. "Five years, David! Five years I stood by your side-even when my parents opposed us. I stayed because I believed we could build a family. I believed you truly loved me."
Evelyn let out a mocking laugh. "How amusing. You couldn't even give him a child."
Steffy shot her a sharp look. "And you think you're better than me just because you're pregnant?"
Evelyn stood up, placing her cup on the table with a loud clink. "More than that. I'm the true Willson heir. The child I'm carrying will be the future of this family. And David will stand beside me as its head."
David said nothing. His gaze flickered briefly to Evelyn's stomach, then to Steffy's tear-filled eyes. He was uneasy-but he still chose silence.
"Answer me, David," Steffy pleaded softly. "Why... why my own sister? Am I really that unworthy to you?"
David lowered his head, his voice barely audible. "I... I just wanted to be part of the Willson family, Stef. You're not their biological daughter... but Evelyn..."
SLAP!
A sharp slap landed across David's face. Steffy trembled with emotion.
She took a shaky breath after striking him. Her hand was still trembling-not only from anger, but from the way her heart had completely shattered.
"Maybe I'm not a biological daughter of the Willson family," Steffy said, her voice trembling yet firm. "But I have dignity. And you... both of you... have trampled all over it."
David held his cheek, unable to meet her eyes. Meanwhile, Evelyn stood there with a satisfied expression.
"Good. At least you're aware of your place," Evelyn said coldly. "Then you know you should leave."
Steffy glared at the woman she had always called her sister. "You think you've won? You think carrying his child means you get everything?"
Evelyn lifted her chin proudly. "Of course. Because I have two things you don't. First, I'm a Willson. And second... I'm pregnant."
"Evelyn... what do you mean by that?"
A woman's voice suddenly cut through the tension-she had been listening all along.
