Chapter 9 What Is Going On Between You And Your Boss

Seeing that Spencer was holding Sarah's hand, James frowned and said, "Mr. Chadwick, don't worry. I'll drive Sarah home, and I assure you that nothing bad will happen to her. I'll take good care of her."

Sarah also stared at Spencer. Her gaze fell on his hand, which was currently holding hers. "Spencer, it's fine if Mr. Holland sends me home. Don't worry. You should go home as early as possible."

Even though that was what the two of them said, Spencer still didn't want to let her go. He knew that nothing would really happen, but he still couldn't bring himself to let her go. "Sarah, didn't I promise to drive you home?"

The feeling of helplessness overwhelmed her. 'Why did these two guys have to run into each other?' Noticing that Spencer was feeling abandoned, Sarah felt like she must've owed him something in her previous life. Then, she turned to James and said, "Never mind. Neither of you can drive me home. I'll just take a taxi!"

"No way!" surprisingly, James and Spencer said in unison. The two men exchanged glances, and their gazes were full of ire.

"Why not? I'm used to hailing a cab to get home, and nothing bad has ever happened. You two can go back to your own houses now. I'm going home, too. Bye!" Carrying her purse, Sarah ran towards the street, leaving the two men stunned behind her.

Spencer knew her well, so he didn't attempt to chase her. On the other hand, James didn't know what kind of person Sarah was yet, so he wanted to run after her. Before the man had the chance to run, Spencer quickly stopped him. "If I were you, I wouldn't follow her. If she gets mad at you for chasing her, don't say I didn't warn you."

Staring at Spencer, James resisted the urge to run after her. "What's your relationship with her?" James asked.

"What do you think?" Spencer didn't answer James' question. Instead, he left him a question before he decided to walk away.

Although it was almost ten o'clock in the evening, the real night life in the city was just beginning. There were still a lot of taxis passing by the road, and Sarah managed to halt one.

Pretty soon, she arrived home. At this time, her parents had probably gone to bed. So, she silently opened the door and turned on the lights. All of a sudden, she was startled by Danna, who was sitting on the sofa and staring at her intently.

"Mom, what are you doing there? Why didn't you turn on the lights? Were you planning to scare me to death?" Sarah complained as she patted her chest in shock. "Don't you know that I could die because of shock if you do something like this?"

Danna stood up and walked towards her. "You're such a bad girl. James has been standing in the cold wind at the gate of your company for a long time, and you went home all by yourself? And what on earth is going on between you and your boss?"

It had only happened half an hour ago, but her mother had already heard about it. James was surely efficient! Sarah threw her purse on the sofa and held her mother's arm. "Mom, am I your biological daughter?"

"If you're not my real daughter, why would I get anxious about your marriage? You ungrateful girl! You'd better make things clear to me now, so don't try to fool me again!" Danna was well aware of her daughter's personality, and was certain that her daughter would give her a sloppy answer whenever she didn't want to answer the question. In the past, she allowed her daughter to do that, but this time, it was regarding her marriage!
