Chapter 7 She Was A Very Sweet Person

Sarah soon realized that trying to talk some sense into this man was hopelessly futile. She finally decided to ignore Spencer and give him the silent treatment.

Spencer, however, was quick to catch the hint of anger in Sarah's expression when she looked down and continued to go through the document in her hand. As a gesture of apology, he touched his nose with his finger. Staring at Sarah fawningly, he took out a piece of Dove chocolate from his pocket and slowly placed it in front of her. "Miss Swain, I'm sorry."

Every time he annoyed Sarah, he would give her a chocolate to please her. Sarah was rendered speechless, baffled by the man's deed. Did he really think he could appease her with a chocolate?

Sarah raised an eyebrow with a funny quirk in her mouth and looked up at Spencer. "Mr. Chadwick, how many of those chocolates do you have in your pocket? You're going to need a lot more than that to stop me from getting mad at you."

Before Spencer could respond with an answer, Sarah continued, "Mr. Chadwick, please go back to your office and get some rest. Aren't you tired of running around the office all day? As you can see, I have a lot of work to catch up on or I won't be going home tonight!"

Guilt crept into his mind and he couldn't help but feel sorry for Sarah when he sensed the helplessness in her tone. As such, instead of responding with a sardonic remark, he simply said, "Fine. I'll leave you alone, for now. And, don't worry, I can drive you home tonight!"

Sarah nodded curtly in response.

Meanwhile, James tried numerous times to reach Sarah on her phone, but his efforts were in vain as she had put her phone aside on silent mode.

Light filtered in through the blinds of the French windows as he stood in his office with his phone in his hand. It was obvious that this woman was avoiding him. Perhaps, her cold indifference was what made her special in his eyes. Besides, he knew how to play a game of cat and mouse and he didn't mind playing it with her.

He called another number, and soon his mother's voice came from the other end of the line.

"Mom, can you help me find the address of Sarah's company?"

As soon as Tina heard her son asking about the address of Sarah's company, she immediately agreed to help.

Before long, when he got the address, James smiled to himself. The more Sarah played hard to get, the more he found himself attracted to her.

Sarah was the quintessential workaholic, who willingly focused all her attention on her work to keep herself busy. Fortunately for her, Spencer was thoughtful enough to bring her dinner and he didn't leave her office until she had finished eating the food he had brought.

Sarah didn't finish her work until half past nine in the evening. At long last, she stood up and splayed her arms to stretch, when suddenly she noticed Spencer leaning against the door and staring at her. "Whoa! When did you get here? Are you trying to give me a heart attack?"

Spencer remained silent and then he slowly started to approach her with his hands crossed before his chest. "Didn't I tell you that I was going to drive you home? Did you forget already?"

Sarah touched her cheek with the side of her thumb, her lips forming a pensive grin. She suddenly remembered him mentioning it a while ago and her perfunctory response to him. Besides, she didn't think he would wait for her until so late.

"Well, Mr. Chadwick, please take me home then!" It didn't seem inappropriate to her since this wasn't the first time he was going to drive her home from work.

Sarah packed up her things into her bag and scanned through the room quickly before she was about to leave. Then, suddenly she went back to her desk. She picked up the chocolate Spencer had left on her desk earlier and peeled the wrapper off before putting it into her mouth.

Her gleeful, childlike spirit amused Spencer as he looked at her adoringly and smiled. Sarah was two years older than him, but he felt as though that he was more mature than she was. Perhaps it was her charming innocence and purity that made the people around her want to protect her. While the others might have looked at Sarah differently, Spencer knew that behind that cold exterior, she was a very sweet and caring person. In fact, she was just as fragile and sensitive as any other person in the world.
