Chapter 7 At The Door

When Maya went outside to throw the rubbish, a man and a dog, squatting in front of her door appeared before her. Although the man was quite dashing, and the dog was adorable and fluffy, she noticed that they appeared to be cold and pitiful. "What's happened to you?"

Fortunately, she had seen a lot of horror movies, so when this kind of scene appeared in front of her, she just froze for a moment, but she wasn't frightened.

The man was wearing a grey turtleneck sweater and black pants. Under his soft, black hair, there was a pair of glimmering eyes that resembled the stars. He was squatting, and almost resembled an aristocrat, bowing to a queen.

The air in the corridor was freezing. Maya was wearing several layers of clothes, but she still shivered from the cold. The man's ivory, slender hands had turned red. He must be feeling cold as well. When she saw that the dog was wearing a thick vest, she couldn't help but snicker in her heart.

She hadn't seen this man for that many times to know him enough, but she could see that he really loved the dog more than his own life.

Yusuf wanted to stand up, but his legs had become numb after squatting for so long. The moment he tried to get up, he frowned and hissed from the pain, but he was unwilling to ask Maya for help.

However, Maya still stretched out her hands. When her warm, delicate, little hands came into contact with Yusuf's frigid hands, she shivered, but she held on. "Are your feet numb? Stand up."

Maya didn't have a deep impression of this aloof yet handsome neighbor with a dog, but she didn't think that he was a bad person because he cherished his pet.

Moreover, she couldn't stand the fact that someone was wearing too few clothes during such a cold weather! Just look at his cold hands!

"Thanks." This was the second time that he held this girl's hand. The last time they did hold hands was because Beauty had pounced on her and made her fall down.

He could feel the warmth and softness of her hands. Yusuf felt a little embarrassed, but his face didn't show it.

'This man is quite a taciturn individual,' Maya thought. So, she had no choice but to speak once more, "Why are you squatting here? Did something happen?"

Why wasn't he at home during a cold winter day? Why was he even squatting in front of her door?

"I... I forgot to bring my keys, and I left my phone at home." His answer was just as Maya had expected to hear.

Noticing that the man's ears had also gotten red, Maya wanted to burst into laughter. She creased her eyebrows and said, "I see. Well, in the meantime, you can stay in my home. It's freezing, so you shouldn't stay outside."

The first impression Maya had of this man was that he was unbelievably handsome. Her second impression was that he loved his dog, and the third... Maya thought that he was a little slow-witted.

In reality, this was the first time that Yusuf had done something like this. He had never been fond of speaking to strangers, and he didn't have his phone to call Andy. In his moment of desperation, he remembered that Andy mentioned that this girl was a friend of his, so he planned to take his beloved dog to her home until he could get inside his own house.

However... He hesitated when he thought that Maya might think that he was some sort of pervert.

"Thank you." At the end of his contemplation, he thanked her once more.

Maya went to the kitchen and poured a cup of warm water. On her way back to the living room, she picked up a thin blanket on the sofa. Then, she placed it on a chair, and gave the paper cup to Yusuf.

"You don't have to thank me. We're neighbors after all."

"Thank... Okay." Yusuf wanted to express his gratitude again, but when he heard what Maya said, he stopped. Instead, he just took the cup from her hand and noticed that she was smiling. Feeling a little awkward, he pursed his lips and averted his gaze.
