Chapter 5 Handing Over The Script

Over the next few days, Maya had been writing solemnly at home with the air conditioner on.

Three days later, the crew called to tell her that she needed to come over.

It was a historical drama about a princess whose family had been ruined together with their dynasty. She journeyed to the western regions in order to become stronger and be fully prepared for her inevitable revenge. Two years later, she went back to her country and entered the imperial palace. When she saw the new crown prince, she approached him step by step. She planned to become the crown prince's wife in order to get closer to the emperor who killed her father, mother, and brother. Diverging from typical historical dramas, the princess in the story had no intentions of killing all the new members of the royal family and recovering her rightful place in the imperial court. All that she wanted to do was to kill the vile emperor who murdered her entire family.

The prince was obviously the male protagonist of this play. In the beginning, he was indifferent to the heroine's beauty, perhaps he even despised her. But when he found out about her true identity, he began to sympathize with her. Towards the end of the story, this sympathy gradually sublimated into love after they went through thick and thin together.

The director wanted to modify a few things about the following plot based on how the audience reacted, which was a novel way of shooting. The director was a veteran. The actors and actresses invited were famous and had superb acting skills. In addition, the reputation of Maya's novels and scripts was fairly prestigious as well, so when the play was finally released, the audience's interest and reaction were stupendous.

Right now, what caused her a headache was that the audience wanted to see more of a certain male supporting role in the following part of the play. The director mentioned that if there were more than one million comments regarding this topic, the scriptwriter would add more plot that involved the male supporting role.

But in Maya's professional opinion, there was no need to have more exposure for the role, because he was just a supporting character.

After careful writing and revision, she finally finished writing the story of these two episodes within a week. Well, in reality, the director urged her to submit the script before she had the chance to rethink the plot and polish it.

However, the feeling of having to leave the house... It was too much of a hassle for her. A few moments later, Maya took a deep breath and prepared to depart. She donned a beige down jacket, a fiery red scarf, a knitted hat, and a pair of wool gloves. As soon as she stepped outside the door, the freezing air seeped into her skin and made her shiver.

Maya hardly ever watched the plays that she wrote. But at the same time, she knew that Love and Power was quite popular. Not long ago, Maya's mother, who wasn't fond of historical dramas, contacted Maya to get the lead actor's autograph for her.

Naturally, she was rendered speechless. Yes, her mother was also crazy about handsome faces.

Soon, Maya turned in the draft to the director. A bright smile appeared on his chubby face, contrasting with the wintry air. "Maya, thanks for coming out in such a cold weather. But, you're the one who told us that you didn't want to live at the set because you wouldn't have any inspiration. Fortunately, this is a TV series that airs weekly. Otherwise, you're gonna have to write even faster! If you fail to do that, I'm afraid we won't be able to finish shooting next year."

Maya knew that the director was delighted that she finally handed over the script, but at the back of her mind, she knew that he was going to "encourage" her to update the manuscript faster.

Bearing a faint smile on her face, Maya gave no response, but she said in her mind, 'Do you honestly think that it's so easy to write a script? If you think it's so easy, why don't you do it yourself?'

It was true, she didn't join the crew because she wouldn't acquire any inspiration by living outside. But there were other reasons. She was actually frightened by the freezing weather outside. And based on her previous experience on writing TV series, if she was there with the crew, all the actors and actresses were more likely to ask her to add more scenes about themselves.

Normally, she had no choice but to follow the director's and audience's expectations. But for the actors and actresses, she wasn't going to follow anything that they'd say. She refused to allow her script to be tainted by their selfishness.
