Chapter 8 A New Incident

The director of the security department lowered his head to eat, as if he hadn't heard anything. The person that Edwin had been referring to was Greg Zhang, a gangster who had been doing well in A City for the past ten years. It was said that he had gathered tens of thousands of followers during that time. As a small fry, the director of the security department couldn't afford to offend such a powerful man, so he just ate in silence.

Meanwhile, Dale sneaked a glance at Edwin.

Edwin was sitting with a causal look on his face, as if the man he had mentioned was not the leader of a gang who dominated the whole city, but a primary school student. It seemed that, compared to the 20-year-old student in front of him, Dale was inexperienced even though he was 10 years older.

Moreover, what Dale was most confused about was why Edwin's father wanted to pick a fight with the deputy director-general of the public security department.

He couldn't figure out what Edwin's intentions were, so he scanned the boy up and down with his small eyes. But Edwin was wearing a poker face, so he couldn't tell what he was thinking at all. 'This boy is different from other children. He is only 20 years old, but I can't guess what he's thinking,' Dale thought to himself.

Then, he turned his gaze back to the documents in his hand and carefully read them. After a while, he raised his head and nodded. "Edwin, what you said is right. It's better to have one more weapon in hand!"

The director of the security department paused in the middle of eating and glanced at his comrade-in-arms. 'Is he going crazy?' he thought.

"Great!" Edwin cheerfully clinked his glass with Dale's before taking a sip.

But Dale was not really in the mood to drink. His thoughts were preoccupied about how he was going to solve this matter properly.

Then, Edwin raised his glass to the director of the security department and said, "Cheers. Thank you very much for what you did in the girls' dormitory this afternoon."

The director of the security department was raising his glass to Edwin, but stopped halfway in confusion when he heard his words. "The girls' dormitory? What did I do?"

Edwin raised his eyebrows and asked, "Well. Didn't you deal with the matter? One of them is in the hospital now."

Dale's ears immediately perked up. "In the hospital? Was it that serious? Did the girls fight?"

Edwin nodded. "Yes, one of my friends kicked her classmate. That girl is in the hospital now."

"Oh, right! I remember," said the director of the security department. "Your friend must be Caroline, right? Everyone calls her 'beautiful dinosaur'. She is good at sports and always wins the prize in competitions. If our university has a fighting match, I think Caroline can win the championship in that, too!"

"The girl who is in the hospital now is also a PE student. Do you really think that she got hurt so easily?" Edwin sneered.

Dale smiled, "Oh, I see. It's just a way of extorting money. This kind of thing is too common!"

Edwin nodded. "Yes. Fortunately, the doctor in charge of the girl in the hospital is my senior. I can ask him to check whether she is really injured or not."

Dale waved his hands and said, "Come on, I have way more experience in dealing with things like these. It's useless to involve a doctor."

"Then what should we do?" Edwin asked modestly, blinking his eyes.

Dale leaned close to Edwin and said in a low voice, "Listen to me. Let's do it in this way. We..."

That evening, Ted went to Mae's ward with his laptop. Mae's face turned paler and paler as she watched the videos on the laptop screen.

As soon as Ted left, she called her parents and told them that they didn't need to come to the hospital because she was fine. However, her parents refused to listen. How could they let their daughter be after hearing that she had been bullied? They wanted to come and see her no matter what. Moreover, they had already boarded the train, so they had made up their minds to seek justice for her.

At that moment, though, Mae couldn't care less whether her parents were coming or not, because she couldn't stop thinking about what she had seen in that videos. In a fit of anger, she went to find Blake's new girlfriend. She had suspected that Blake had a new girlfriend, but she didn't know who that girl was. But while watching the videos that Ted had shown her just now of a girl holding Blake's hands and kissing him on the road, Mae had recognized the girl at once.

Now that she knew who the girl was, how could she let it go so easily? Mae was such a simple and hot-headed person that she didn't even wonder about the source of Ted's videos.

After all, Ted was just an ordinary student. How could he have gained access to a surveillance video of the road, or even the one in a hotel lobby? If Mae stopped to think about it, she would realize that it was completely impossible! On the other side, Mae's parents were very worried about their daughter. Although she had assured them that she was fine, they didn't believe her, and wanted to check with their own eyes.

The next morning, it was drizzling. When Mae's mother arrived at her daughter's ward, she saw a strange female student with gauze wrapped around her head lying on the bed. Mae's mother was stunned at the door.

Blake, who was about to enter the room with a washbasin in his hand, stood behind her and said, "Good, Auntie, please give me an explanation."

It turned out that Mae had thrown a glass at his new girlfriend's head and hurt her. Therefore, he refused to let Mae's mother go until he received an explanation. Meanwhile, Mae's father couldn't get in touch with his daughter, so he went straight to the office of the dean of the physical education department.

Coincidentally, Caroline and Daryl were in the dean's office at that time. Mae's father had seen Caroline before, so he recognized her at once as the girl who had hurt his daughter. As soon as he saw her, he exploded with anger and knocked the dean's table heavily, as if he had a grudge against the table.

Both the dean and Daryl tried to dissuade Mae's father with a smile. As for Caroline, she just calmly watched them without worrying at all. Since Edwin was going to help her, there was nothing to worry about.

In her previous life, Caroline had thrown the key of a girl's BMW directly into a mud pool. That girl was the district head's daughter, and she had said a lot of harsh words to Caroline at that time. But after Edwin had gotten involved in the matter, the girl had personally apologized to Caroline with a smile.

While Mae's father was shouting at them, Daryl handed him a glass of water with a bright smile on his face, hoping to make Mae's father calm down.

"Mr. Zhou," said Caroline in a lukewarm tone, "I admit that I kicked Mae, but it's not my fault that she's infertile. I had nothing to do with that!"

Hearing that, Mae's father choked on the water in his mouth. "What are you talking about? My girl is fine. How can she be infertile? Stop spreading rumors!"

Daryl and the dean broke out into a cold sweat when they heard this. If the news of Mae's infertility got out, her reputation would be damaged. It seemed that Caroline was adding fuel to the fire.

"I'm spreading rumors? What about your daughter? She spread rumors about me first!" Caroline pushed the dean's hand away and sneered at Mae's father. "You and your wife didn't teach your daughter well, so I taught her a lesson for you free of charge. If anything, you should be thanking me."

Mae's father pointed at Caroline with a trembling hand. He was so angry that he couldn't say a word.

At the hospital, Mae's mother finally received the examination report with conflicting emotions.

She was angry that her daughter had been hit by someone, and she was even angrier that her daughter had hit someone else. She didn't know when she would explode with anger.

Finally, she managed to get in touch with her daughter. When Mae arrived at the hospital, she quarreled with Blake again. Her eyes were red and swollen, which showed that she must have cried hard. It was only upon witnessing their argument that Mae's parents realized that all of this was because of their daughter's boyfriend.

Blake's new girlfriend was a student of the chemistry department. She didn't tell her parents that she was hurt, but the dean of the chemistry department was on her side and wanted to get justice for her.

After that, Caroline was let off scot-free and not involved in the issue anymore. Although she had kicked Mae, the doctor said that there was nothing wrong with Mae except for the two bruises on her belly and buttocks. On the other side, Mae had hit Blake's new girlfriend on the head, so she had caused a lot more damage.
