Chapter 7 You

After expressing his thanks, Edwin didn't leave immediately, but glanced at Caroline.

'What are you looking at? Yeah, the woman who was your wife in your previous life is standing in front of you! Even if you don't like me, I'm still your wife!' Caroline thought to herself.

Unexpectedly, Edwin said, "Theoretically speaking, if a woman kicks another woman, it won't cause infertility. But it has yet to be found whether a female dinosaur can kick a woman into infertility or not."

Edwin, who always kept a straight face, was joking! This rare event rendered all the people in the room speechless, except for Caroline, who had gotten a good dose of Edwin's jokes and sarcasm in her previous life.

She raised her head and said, "It's none of your business."

"Well, Mae's doctor is actually my senior. But it seems that you don't want to know whether Mae will be infertile or not, so... I guess I won't need to bother my senior." Edwin shrugged casually.

Caroline was stunned. It turned out that Edwin had been intending to help her.

Before she could respond, Edwin turned and walked out. Without thinking, Caroline jumped up and ran over to him. She didn't know why she was so angry, but she began trying to throw punches and kicks at Edwin. Although Caroline was a girl, she was very strong, so she was definitely capable of hurting Edwin. Fortunately, thanks to his quick reflexes, Edwin was able to grab her hands and stop her.

When she realized that she couldn't beat Edwin up, Caroline only became angrier. "I hate you! I hate you so much! If you want to help, just do it. Otherwise, don't talk nonsense!"

Everyone else in the office hurriedly came over to pull Caroline away. In particular, the dormitory management teacher made great efforts to drag Caroline back to the sofa. Meanwhile, the vice-principal and Daryl kept apologizing to Edwin. After that, Daryl and Caroline's head teacher accompanied Edwin out of the office.

Daryl spoke first. "I'm sorry about that. Caroline is crazy, but she's not a bad person. She's just a little impulsive. So, please don't hate her. And if there is anything you can do to help her, please do it! I will thank you on her behalf."

Edwin listened quietly, but his face became colder and colder with his every word.

"If you care about your dinosaur so much, you should put her on a leash. If you let her roam around freely, she'll scare everyone away," he replied.

Daryl felt a tinge of irritation after hearing these words. Although they usually called Caroline "dinosaur," the nickname sounded mean and nasty when coming from an outsider.

However, he hid his annoyance and said, "Don't worry, senior. I will take care of her."

Edwin looked Daryl up and down with contempt in his eyes. "You?" Then, he sneered coldly and left,

leaving both Daryl and the head teacher stunned. For a moment, the two of them wondered what Edwin had meant. But upon realizing that Edwin had insulted him, Daryl became even more annoyed. In the office,

Caroline had finally calmed down, perhaps because she released all her pent-up anger while punching and kicking Edwin. Now that all her frustration had disappeared, she felt particularly relieved. Besides, she was confident that Edwin would help her despite what had just happened. And there was no problem that he couldn't solve.

Right after she thought that, however, she felt disgusted with herself. She had suffered a lot when she was with Edwin in her previous life. Why did she still trust him so much in this life? She couldn't figure out the reason.

Ted was waiting for Edwin at the staircase. As soon as he had heard about the trouble that Caroline had gotten herself into from Kristi, he had rushed to the hospital to apologize to Mae on behalf of Caroline. But he had hesitated outside Mae's ward, knowing that if Caroline found out that he had begged for mercy, she would kick him, too.

While he was stuck in a dilemma, he had found the profile of Mae's doctor. It turned out that this doctor had graduated from the A City Medical University! Therefore, Ted had left the hospital to find Edwin.

In fact, he wasn't close to Edwin at all. They had only met once. But to his surprise, Edwin agreed to help him. However, instead of going to talk to his senior, Edwin came to see Caroline first.

Ted didn't understand what his plan was. He knew what Caroline was like when she was in a fit of anger. Even the people in the office wouldn't be able to persuade her or calm her down. Why did Edwin want to see her? Did he think that he could calm Caroline down? While Ted was still pondering over this, Edwin walked over.

"Edwin!" Ted anxiously rushed over to him. "What happened?"

Glancing at Ted, Edwin said, "I don't think we know each other that well."

Ted smiled sheepishly and said, "Senior, did Caroline listen to you?"

Instead of answering Ted's question, Edwin asked, "Is the director of the security department in his office now?"

Ted nodded. "He is, I asked my classmate to check it for me."

"Good. If you have any problem in the future, come to me. I will try my best to help you," Edwin said seriously.

Hearing this, Ted grinned from ear to ear. He was so happy that he forgot all the questions in his heart.

When Edwin walked into the office of the director of the security department, he found him boasting to a newcomer about how excellent he had been when he was in the army. 'Wow, you're really good at bragging. I remember that you were just a swineherd at that time,' Edwin thought to himself.

When the director of the security department noticed Edwin, he immediately asked the new security guard to leave his office.

Edwin was the most outstanding student of the medical university, and the student of the director of its affiliated hospital. Moreover, he was close to the principals of all the universities. Even if the director of the security department didn't care about how well-connected Edwin was, he would still be impressed by Edwin's exceptional medical skills. Rumor had it that the principal of the medical university had asked Edwin to practice when he treated his patients.

'It's really difficult to find a good doctor these days. If I can build a good rapport with such a highly-skilled doctor like Edwin, it would really benefit me,' the director thought to himself.

Edwin exchanged a few polite words of greeting with the director of the security department before coming to the point. He wanted the director to be the intermediary and introduce him to the director of the local police station, who was his comrade-in-arms. The director of the security department agreed without hesitation, since it wasn't a big deal. In his eyes, it would be good to help Edwin so that Edwin would owe him a favor in return.

That night, Edwin invited the two men to a fancy restaurant not far from the university. During the meal, he said everything he wanted to say.

Dale Li, the director of the police station, was also very happy to have a meal with Edwin, since Edwin was the only son of the deputy mayor. It was said that at the end of this year, the deputy mayor would become the mayor. Besides, the help that Edwin was asking him for was not illegal. So how could he miss this good opportunity to build a relationship with the son of the deputy mayor?

During the dinner, Edwin took out a clear plastic file and gave it to Dale Li. Dale Li stared at it, stunned.

"Mr. Li, this person grew up in the region that you were overseeing before. I think you'd know more about him than others. But I need evidence," Edwin explained.

Dale Li hesitantly took the file with a frown.

"It seems that you already know whom I'm talking about," Edwin continued, raising his eyebrow.

"Well... Is this your father's idea?" Dale Li asked.

"It's always better to have one more weapon in hand, don't you think?" Edwin replied.

Dale Li took out the A4-sized documents from the file and flipped through them. "It's true that this person resided in the region that I oversaw in the past. He grew up there. But..."

"I know he is a distant relative of the deputy director-general of the public security department. But that doesn't mean that they have a close relationship, right?" Edwin asked.

Instead of answering, Dale Li silently took a sip of the wine, but he couldn't taste anything.
