Chapter 6 Janiya's Weakness

At the moment, Janiya didn't care about etiquette or regret. She expressed her resentment and anger to Aden.

Aden stared at Janiya. He got out of the car and looked at nothing in particular. Was Janiya really innocent as she was claiming to be? Was everything really a misunderstanding? 'Maybe, ' Aden thought, 'Janiya really didn't want to marry me, but there could be a possibility that her father wants to get her married to me.'

Every person who ran a business, favored interests. Mason was an example. Moreover, according to Lachlan's investigations, Jedidiah also had a hand in those meaningless reports.

When Aden heard Janiya getting out of the car, he turned around and looked at her with a steely glint in his eyes. "Miss Hamilton, even if it is a misunderstanding as you claim, my girlfriend has been hurt, because of your mistake. What do you think? How should we deal with it?"

Janiya frowned and apologized, "I'm sorry. I hurt your girlfriend, but I can make her understand, that all this was nothing but a misunderstanding. It's all my fault. I am genuinely sorry for creating a rift between you and your girlfriend."

Janiya didn't feel good when she said it. In her opinion, she was equally a victim. However, Janiya was a well-educated woman, so she took full responsibility for her mistake.

Aden nodded and said, "In that case, Miss Hamilton, please pay for your mistakes and sign this."

Janiya took the paper from Aden with a confused frown on her face. As she read it, her eyes widened in disbelief. "A... marriage contract?!" she stuttered with astonishment.

Aden looked at Janiya and explained with a serious look on his face, "Correct, it's written clearly on it. Our marriage will only be valid for a year. After that, the contract will be null and void. For the said year that we will be married, we will only need to maintain the relationship on the surface. Also, neither of us can meddle in each other's affairs."

"Are you kidding me, Mr. Morrison?"

Aden had no other option, but, to tell Janiya about the actual reason behind Gianna's disappearance. But Janiya still didn't agree.

"I'm sorry. For me, marriage is sacred. I'm willing to make up for my mistake as I kept on telling you, but that doesn't mean I will trade it for marriage."

Janiya thought Aden's request was ridiculous. Yes, it was her fault that she went to the wrong room, but that didn't mean she would do whatever he said. Aden's father, however, would not allow Gianna to be with him, even if Janiya had not entered the wrong room. In other words, with or without Janiya, something terrible would happen to Gianna, sooner or later.

Aden didn't expect that Janiya would refuse him so decisively. He said in a cold voice, "Miss Hamilton, don't you need to pay for your mistake?"

Aden was never a warm and kind person. He would only protect the people he cared for and totally ignore other people's feelings.

"Naturally, laws or moral standards can measure my fault. If you want me to explain something to your girlfriend, no problem. But with regards to the marriage contract, sorry I can't agree."

Janiya refused with a determined look. She jutted her chin out and looked directly in Aden's eyes. She had her principles and the bottom line was that she would defend her principles.

"Janiya, you have to sign this contract, even if you don't want to. I'm patient now, but if you don't... You don't want to see the other side of me, so you better sign it." There were horrible thoughts going around in his head with regards to Gianna's safety. Aden wanted to get her back as soon as possible.

Janiya looked at Aden with disdain and said with a voice full of disgust, "Mr. Morrison, what else can you do other than threaten me?"

Thinking back to the other day, she remembered Aden's threat and felt less apologetic about his situation. That day, Aden said everything was over, but today he asked Janiya to sign a marriage contract. How ridiculous!

"Well then, I hope you don't regret it." With that, Aden sat in his car and drove away, leaving Janiya standing alone at the side of the road.

Seeing Aden drive off, she shook her head and walked home taking a longer route. She wanted to clear her head and she thought a walk would help.

When Janiya reached home, she was surprised to see Jayla. Janiya smiled awkwardly.

Jayla held Janiya's hand in a comforting way. "Janiya, what happened that day? When I was waiting for you, I happened to meet a few friends and they invited me to join them. Since I was alone, I agreed. I got drunk and lost all track of time. I never expected such a thing to happen. The past few days, I wanted to come and see you, but our house was surrounded by a group of reporters. My phone was bombarded by calls from reporters too. So I had been hiding at my friend's house.

Sorry Janiya, if I had accompanied you to the room that night, all this wouldn't have happened."

Janiya smiled and patted Jayla's hand. "It's not your fault, but mine. Don't worry. This will be blown over soon. You don't have to worry about it. I've just returned from a long walk, so I'm a bit tired. I'll just go upstairs and rest."

Staring at Janiya's retreating back, Jayla smiled triumphantly. 'Janiya, this is your biggest weakness. I'm looking forward to the day when your reputation is completely ruined!'

Aden called Lachlan. "Find out everything you can about Janiya. I want to know her weaknesses. ASAP!"

Aden totally ignored Janiya's opinion. He only knew that his beloved was missing because of Janiya. Gianna's life was in danger. Janiya must pay for her own mistake.

Lachlan got what Aden wanted within a couple of hours. "Janiya's biggest weakness is her mother, who's in the United States. When Janiya was a child, her father, Jedidiah, had an affair with another woman. Her mother was so angry, that she divorced Jedidiah and moved to the States. Currently her mother is suffering from a heart condition and is undergoing treatment."

Aden nodded, lost in thought.

Lachlan knew Aden very well. He grinned mischievously and said, "Aden, are you thinking of doing something to a patient? You're not that kind of a person. I have time on my hands. How about I help you?"

Aden poured two glasses of red wine and offered one to Lachlan. Aden clinked Lachlan's glass and said, "Take her to my villa in America. I also want the best medical team to be present with her 24/7."

Several days had passed, that Janiya hadn't spoken to her mother, so she decided to call her. But when she picked up the phone and dialed her mother's number, her mother's phone was switched off. Janiya tried several times, but was not able to get through. She couldn't remember, when was the last time her mother's phone was off. She called the attending doctor and was notified that, her mother had been transferred to another facility. Janiya asked whether they knew which facility her mother was transferred to, but the attending doctor was unable to help her with that information.

Janiya thought that something bad must have happened to her already ailing mother and the phone fell from her numb fingers, to the ground. Her mother's phone was never switched off. Also, if her mother was transferred to another facility, she would definitely call and discuss it with Janiya. But now her mother was missing. Janiya felt that something must be terribly wrong.

Janiya realized that she had to fly to America to search for her mother. As she started to make the preparations, Janiya received a message from Aden. It was a picture of her mother standing in a garden.

The moment Janiya saw the picture, she was relieved and sat down on her bed. But, when she realized the source of the picture, she was furious.

Aden's phone rang continuously, but he ignored it. He continued to deal with the important documents on his desk.

Janiya called Aden repeatedly, but he didn't answer.

Finally Janiya picked up her purse and went straight to Aden's company. Aden seemed to have instructed his employees, about her visit, in advance. Janiya reached his office without being stopped by anyone. She entered his office without knocking, because Janiya was beyond giving him any respect. The moment she saw Aden sitting in his chair, as if he had no worries, she was furious.

"Aden, where is my mother?" She didn't beat around the bush and went straight to the point.
