Chapter 7 18 Years Ago Part One

Shawn, Windy, Henry, and Sally followed behind as Carol was transferred to the general ward. After the nurse left, Shawn sat on the edge of the bed, held Carol's hand, and silently stared at her face with a serious expression on his face.

Henry and Sally found this scene a little awkward. The past relationship between Carol and Shawn was no secret to them, but Shawn had already married Windy. Why was he still be obsessed with Carol?

Standing on one side of the hospital room, Windy watched as Shawn looked at Carol's unconscious form with a worried expression on his face. It was like she, his own wife, wasn't even there. Her heart ached, but she could only endure in silence. She couldn't say or do anything.

Sally felt sorry for her younger daughter. Shaking her head helplessly, she stepped behind Shawn and called his attention with a soft tone, "Shawn."

Shawn's broad back stiffened, signaling that he did hear the call, but some time had passed before he turned toward Sally. His lips remained pursed, and he only looked as Sally told him with a smile, "Henry and I can take care of Carol. You must be tired after the celebration of yours and Windy's wedding, so go back first and have a rest."

At the mention of Windy's name, Shawn threw his wife a cursory glance and then turned toward Carol again. In an indifferent voice, he replied, "No, thanks. You can all go back. I'll stay here and look after Carol."

His reply left the couple in a dilemma. Henry ventured, "Shawn, I don't think that's a good idea."

"Why not?" Shawn asked indifferently, clearly not waiting for an answer. "I think it's a great idea."

They were familiar with Shawn's cold demeanor and horrible temper, so they didn't say anything else. Instead, they turned their pleading eyes at Windy.

Bitterness started to well up in Windy's heart. However, she didn't want her parents to worry about her, so she forced a smile on her face. "Dad, Mom, since Shawn wants to take care of Carol, let him stay. Let's just come back tomorrow morning."

Henry turned toward Sally. "In that case, let's go." Windy had already spoken, so what else could they do?

Sally nodded in response and gave Carol a final look. She was still unconscious. Sally then left the room with Henry.

Windy followed them out of the room with her eyes and then turned to look at Shawn again. The bitterness churning inside her was starting to become too overwhelming. Eventually, she followed her parents out of the room.

Standing outside the gate of the hospital, Windy told her parents, "Dad, Mom, it's late. Please head back and rest."

"Windy." Sally was worried for her younger daughter, so her voice was particularly soft and affectionate as she spoke, "My love, are you really okay?"

Windy kept silent, not knowing how to answer her mother's question. Of course, she knew what Sally meant. She might have married the man, but she didn't have his heart. Even now, he opted to take care of Carol instead of going home with her. What could she do?

When her daughter didn't say anything, Sally couldn't help but complain, "Shawn is being irresponsible right now. He's your husband, but he's choosing to stay by your sister's bedside..."

"All right," Henry interrupted Sally. Her monologue only served to hurt their daughter's feelings and make her sad. "Windy, I know that this is difficult to accept. After all, Shawn and your sister had been together for some time, and it's not easy to just let it go and forget everything. That's why you have to work doubly hard to capture his feelings. One day, he will see how much you care for him and acknowledge your feelings. One day..."

Windy nodded and gave Henry and Sally a bright and warm smile to reassure them. "Dad, I know. Mom, please don't worry about me. I'm fine."

Her reassuring words only distressed Sally further on her behalf. Her younger daughter had always had a strong personality ever since she was a child, but she was also obedient and sensible. If anything happened, she would always keep it in her heart and bear it alone silently and never let her family worry about her. Compared with her eldest daughter, Windy was definitely closer to being the ideal daughter.

"Dad, Mom, I'm leaving," Windy told them again.

Henry nodded. Sally instructed the driver, "Drive carefully and take good care of Windy."

"Understood, Mrs. Fu. Please don't worry," the driver answered. Then, he turned around and walked to the door to hold it open for Windy.

Windy then slipped into the car and went back to the Yu's manor.

During the ride home, Windy was in low spirits. Thoughts of Shawn taking care of her sister in the hospital filled her head. Was she wrong to insist for him to be allowed to stay?

If Shawn didn't really love her sister, how could he care so much about her?

Without meaning to, her thoughts went back to that day eighteen years ago. That day was a sunny one, and a pleasant breeze blew.

Windy proposed to her parents for her birthday to be celebrated together with those children who had no relatives. Her parents agreed and ordered a big cake for her to share with the children of the Love Family.

After everyone had sung the birthday song, she handed out slices of cake to all of the children and ate with them, and all of their young faces were shining with happy smiles.

She could say that it was the happiest day in her life because she met Shawn then. From that day on, Shawn had been living in her heart.

"Waah... Waah..."

A wail resounded in the hall, calling everyone's attention. They all stopped eating the cake and grew quiet.

At that time, Windy was only four years old. Out of curiosity, she rushed out of the hall upon hearing the cry, and the other children filed out to follow her.

Upon seeing a boy crying in the front yard, Windy approached him in confusion.

The handsome boy looked older than her, so Windy called him brother and asked, "Why are you crying alone here?"

When he saw the beautiful little girl standing in front of him, the boy stopped crying and replied, hiccupping, "Grandpa and I got lost. I can't find him."

A slight frown formed on Windy's little forehead when she heard him. She wiped the tears on the boy's face with a tissue and tried to cheer him up with a smile. "Brother, don't cry. I'll ask my parents to help you find you grandpa, okay?"

"Okay." The boy nodded in agreement and stopped crying.

Henry and Sally walked toward Windy and the sniffling boy. Sally asked in a gentle tone, "Little boy, what's your name? I will ask Uncle to help you find your grandpa, okay?"
