Chapter 4 You Won't Be Happy

Windy turned to look at Shawn, but his eyes were locked with Carol's in a look brimming with affectionate longing. It was like she wasn't even there. Her hands clasped tightly in front of her, Windy softly reminded Shawn, "If you don't care about Grandpa, the reputation of Yu Clan, and the Dragon Empire Group, I can help you face the public and tell them that we're regretfully dissolving this marriage. Then, you can be with my sister."

Her words left Shawn dumfounded, and then a cold, blank mask settled on his face. He glared at Windy beside him and seethed inwardly. 'How dare this woman threaten me!'

However, what she said was true. He had his grandfather, the Yu Clan, and the company to consider, and choosing them meant that he had to be cruel to the woman he loved. He cared about both sides-it was only a matter of which one held more weight in his heart.

"Shawn, don't leave me, okay?" Sensing his hesitation, Carol pleaded with Shawn with tears streaming from her eyes in a last-ditch attempt to make him stay.

Steeling himself against the pain in his heart at the pitiful sight, Shawn drew Windy into his arms with a smile and faced Carol and all of the media. His indifferent voice sounded odd, and none of those present could tell whether the man was happy or angry. "Miss Carol Fu, I'm already Windy's husband, and from now on, I will respect you as my wife's older sister."

Naturally, he said these words for the benefit of the media and everyone who was in attendance. After all, it would be a disgraceful thing to publicly denounce their marriage, on account of the bride's sister at that. The Yu Clan could not afford such a scandal.

Tremors wracked Carol's body, and tears unceasingly fell from her eyes like diamonds. With a final look filled with despair at Shawn, she flashed a weird-looking smile and declared, "Very well, Shawn, you have made your decision. In that case, I won't wish for your happiness."

Shawn bit his lip and remained quiet. After all, he had nothing left to say.

Windy was speechless, as well, but the warring emotions inside her were far from silent. Never would she have thought that her relationship with her sister would turn out this way. She did feel some guilt toward Carol, but she could never regret what she had done because she knew that the man standing beside her should belong to her. She only grasped the happiness that was her due.

"Are you crazy? Go back right now." Henry pulled Carol away by the hand, warning her to stop making a fool of herself. Then, he turned toward Shawn and said, "Shawn, I'll leave Windy to you. We're leaving now."

This time, Carol stopped resisting and let Henry lead her away from the wedding...

The wedding was supposed to go without a hitch. However, because of the absurd, short-lived scene earlier, the host felt a twinge of embarrassment. Even so, he felt like he should speak now or miss the opportunity to fix the mess. To suppress the gloomy atmosphere, he announced once again with a wide smile, "Let's give a warm round of applause for Mr. Shawn Yu and Miss Windy Fu, who have just become an officially wedded couple!"

The audience applauded again and even stood up and cheered. With the host's few choice words, the awkwardness of the atmosphere was dispelled, and the air inside the Yu's manor became lively again. However, for the newlyweds Shawn and Windy, the day was broken beyond repair.

That summer night was unseasonably chilly. As the cold night breeze blew around her, Windy sobered up, her body shivering. Without her noticing, she had been standing on the balcony for quite some time.

She turned around to look at the bedroom, but Shawn still had yet to make an appearance. Her heart sank, and a mocking smile appeared at the corner of her mouth. Was this the marriage she really wanted? She had doomed herself into this relationship without that man's love. Behind the lavish celebration, she was left alone to mourn what had just happened.

'Windy Fu, you've made your own bed. Who else can you blame but yourself?' she murmured to herself with a heavy sigh. Finally, she left the balcony and started getting ready for bed.

At that moment, the door of the bedroom swung open, and Shawn stumbled inside, looking exhausted.

A gentle smile instantly appeared on Windy's beautiful face. She walked toward her husband and exclaimed happily, "You're back, Shawn."

As she spoke, she reached out her hand to take the coat that Shawn had just taken off. However, Shawn's cold glare stopped her short. He carelessly draped his coat at the back of the sofa and said in a hostile tone, "Stay away from me."

When she heard these words, the blood drained from Windy's face as she looked at him, stunned. In the next moment, she composed herself and asked him with a gentle smile, "What's wrong, Shawn?"

"What's wrong?" Shawn's eyes were cold and mocking, and an unpleasant sneer curled up his mouth. Staring at Windy, he spoke up in a low, threatening voice. "You look so smug. Fine, you win-you managed to separate me from Carol, and we can never be together again. Are you proud of yourself?"

Mutely, she looked up at the tall man before him, shaking her head slowly. He slung his words mercilessly like sharp knives that cut her heart and made it bleed. Was he blaming her for his breakup with her sister?

She didn't understand why he only saw Carol and ignored her love completely. She was the one who first fell in love with him, after all. Why couldn't he see it?

Her insides churning with bitterness and hurt, Windy forced the most beautiful smile she could manage on her face. Then, she defended herself in a low voice. "I didn't. I didn't separate you and my sister. It's Grandpa who..."

"Enough!" Shawn angrily interrupted her explanation. The cold smile on his face grew even more glacial. "Windy, that's enough. How cruel could you be, always using Grandpa to thwart me? Now, you're saying that this was all his idea. Grandpa chose you to be the future hostess of the Yu Clan, right?"

Windy no longer said anything after that. His mind was all made up against her, anyway, so what else could she say to defend herself? In his eyes, she was a scheming, manipulative woman. What was the point of trying to change his opinion of her?

"Say it! Why aren't you saying anything?" Shawn asked, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he stared at the stubborn expression on Windy's face. Finally, he growled out, "Don't think that you can keep your position as the mistress of the Yu Clan now that you have married me, and don't think that you're untouchable because you have Grandpa's support. One day, I will divorce you once I'm done with you."

With that parting shot, Shawn turned around and walked into the bathroom, slamming the door shut behind him. The sound of the door made Windy tremble all over, and tears rolled unchecked down her face. Still, a brilliant smile remained on her lips. She told herself, 'I, Windy Fu, will not go down so easily!'
