Chapter 6 Came Back To Stay

At dinner time, mother and daughter sat around the table to eat.

"Mom, none of the five-star chefs in the world can cook better than you do!" Michelle praised.

Then she took another bite of rice and chewed it.

Although Michelle seemed to have a good appetite, Olivia felt sorry for her. She knew that her daughter was just pretending to be okay so she wouldn't worry.

Olivia couldn't tell what was going on in the young woman's mind for sure, but she had also experienced heartbreak. In her case, it was even more painful and terrible than what her daughter was going through now.

"Mom, what are you thinking about?" Michelle asked once she noticed her mother was in a daze.

"Oh, I was thinking about what to cook for you tomorrow. After all, it's not every day that you can be back home, so I must treat you to something delicious. Besides, there's a lot of junk food out there. You should have more home-cooked meals while you're here."

Then Olivia put another chicken wing into Michelle's bowl with a gentle smile on her face.

However, the moment Michelle heard her mother's words, she put down her chopsticks and looked at her seriously. "Mom, I came back to stay. There's nothing important at school now, and I don't want to go abroad anymore."

Olivia was not surprised by her decision, but her lack of response left Michelle a little confused.

"Mom, aren't you happy that I'm back?"

After a long pause, Olivia answered, "No matter what you decide to do, I'll always support you. Of course, I'm glad that you're back. You can now eat more of my delicious dishes regularly."

"Yes!" Michelle smiled, pleased with her mother's idea.

After dinner, Michelle had to insist on washing the dishes.

"Well, Mom, you can go to the living room and watch TV while I do this." In the end, Michelle had to push her mother out of the kitchen so she could do the dishes on her own.

Olivia was left with no choice but to enjoy her free time.

Before going to bed, she noticed that the light in Michelle's room was still on. So she went over and knocked on the door. "Michelle, are you still awake?"

"Yes, Mom. I'm looking for a job online. Now that I've finished my studies, I can't stay home all day."

As there were only the two of them in the house, and Michelle didn't have anything to hide from her mother, the door to her bedroom was unlocked.

Still, Olivia didn't push the door open immediately. While Michelle was absorbed in front of the computer, she didn't seem to keep track of the movement outside her bedroom.

All of a sudden, her focus was entirely on the news window that popped up on the screen.

It was another release about Wyn and Zoy's wedding.

Seeing how intimate the two of them looked in the photo, Michelle felt angry. It wasn't until she heard the door open that she closed the news window in a hurry.

Yet Olivia walked into the bedroom in time to see the picture on the screen.

In order not to let her daughter see her discomfort, she pretended not to know anything. Putting down a glass of hot milk on Michelle's desk, she said, "You shouldn't stay up late, it's not good for your health. I brought you some milk. Drink it while it's still hot."

"Fine." Michelle stuck her tongue out naughtily and then pouted.

Although she was amused by her daughter's frown, Olivia didn't allow it to distract her from telling Michelle she should go to bed early once more. In fact, Olivia didn't leave until Michelle had promised her repeatedly that she would.

Moreover, after the news she had just seen, Michelle wasn't in the mood to keep looking for a job either. Anyway, she had already sent a few resumes to a couple of companies. Therefore, she drank the hot milk her mother brought to her and lay on the bed at once, covering her entire body with a quilt.

This was how she usually went to sleep at home. The house was warm during winter and cool during summer, so this way, she felt the most comfortable in any season.

Meanwhile, Olivia didn't close her eyes until the light was turned off in the room across from hers.

Of course, she knew why her daughter didn't want to go abroad anymore. There were too many memories there.
