Chapter 5 Disappeared From Her Life For Good

After she washed her face and rinsed her mouth, Michelle changed into a simple dress and put on a pair of white sneakers before heading out for a walk.

The hustle and bustle outside, however, seemed not to get her attention at all. Wherever she went, she felt cold and lonely.

Although she walked aimlessly, she was so familiar with those streets that she wouldn't be able to get lost even if she had her eyes shut.

The sky above the huge C City was covered with dark clouds. There was no trace of its original blue to be seen anymore.

Along the way, Michelle couldn't hold back her tears. Her eyes were still swollen and red, but now they were also a little sore.

Her strong will was the only thing keeping her on her feet now. She told herself inwardly, 'You must be strong, do not fall down because of love!'

Her relationship had ended in the most agreeable and pathetic way there was.

The guy disappeared from her life, perhaps for good, but he would stubbornly remain in her heart and become a part of her memory, only to remind her of how much he had wronged her before.

Meanwhile, Olivia was carefully following Michelle in case she needed anything.

Even from afar, she could see her daughter's trembling shoulders.

Olivia would be lying if she said the sight of it didn't break her heart.

It was sorrowful for Michelle to find out the man she loved most had married someone else out of the blue. Not to mention that the bride was her best friend.

'I'm the one to blame. They are the loving couple. A perfect match for each other.' She looked up at the sky with tears in her eyes. In fact, her eyes hurt so much she was finding it hard to keep them open.

"Why are you crying again? Even I didn't cry as much as you're now when your father left."

At this time, Olivia had already trotted over to Michelle. Pulling out a handkerchief from her pocket, she carefully wiped off her daughter's tears.

"Mom, do you think I'll go blind if I keep crying like this?" Michelle asked with such a forced smile that she wasn't able to fool anyone.

Olivia grabbed her hand as she scolded her gently, "Silly girl, what are you talking about?"

Taking notice of her mother's pout, Michele finally gave in to a sincere smile.

She leaned her head against Olivia's shoulder and closed her eyes slowly. At that moment, the summer breeze gently blew the hem of her dress and scattered her long hair behind her back.

While tenderly smoothing down her daughter's black strands, Olivia couldn't help remembering how the girl looked like before going abroad. At the time, she could have easily been mistaken for a boy because of her short hair.

But unexpectedly, three years had passed, and Michelle's hair had grown quite long.

Olivia then gave her daughter a comforting smile and led her to the park bench. After they sat down, both women leaned their heads against one another for a while.

"Mom, I want to eat some clams."

"Okay."

"Oh, and roast chicken wings as well."

On their way home, mother and daughter held hands as Michelle picked the dishes she wanted for dinner.

Olivia was in great joy to hear this. After all, if Michelle was hungry, it must be a sign that she was feeling better.

Despite the different types of dishes requested, Olivia would do her best to meet her daughter's wishes. Seeing that Michelle was in such a good mood, she was delighted to cook for her.

In fact, this was the first time today that she had seen the real Michelle who had always enjoyed laughing so much since she was a child.
