Chapter 4 Wyn's Lie

Olivia Wang was the woman Michelle loved most in her life, and it wasn't just because she had given birth to her.

Michelle knew that as a single mother, Olivia must have sacrificed a lot to raise her all on her own.

Sitting by the bed, Olivia said, "When I opened the door to throw out the garbage, I found you sitting on the threshold, drunk. My first thought was that you were supposed to be abroad, so I couldn't understand why you came back so suddenly. Then I realized you didn't have any luggage with you either."

It had been a long time since they last saw each other. Michelle couldn't help but notice a few more grey strands showing on her mother's head. At that moment, she finally fell into Olivia's arms and cried copiously. "Mom, what should I do?"

Olivia knew she didn't have the power to relieve Michelle from her pain, so she did the best she could do for the time being and patted on her daughter's back in order to make her feel better.

"Cry, my child. Let all the sorrow out," Olivia whispered in her ear.

There were no secrets between mother and daughter. Olivia had met Wyn before. Michelle had brought him back home during last year's winter vacation.

She just didn't expect that he would end up marrying another woman in such a short time. When she first saw the report on the newspaper, she couldn't believe her eyes.

'Just because he's rich, he thinks he can do whatever he wants? Does this give him the right to toy with a woman's feelings as he pleases?' Olivia thought.

If this man showed up at her doorstep again, she swore she would teach him a lesson for her daughter's sake.

When the girl in her arms finally stopped weeping, Olivia told her to have a good rest and then left the room, closing the door behind her.

Michelle covered herself head to toe under the quilt and recalled her past with Wyn. She believed they shared a deep love for each other. But after remembering his deception and betrayal, her heart ached endlessly.

Right now, she didn't even want to see his face. All he did was lie to her.

She had never thought he could pretend so well.

And to think he had told her he was the son of a wealthy family's maid, and that he had been sent abroad to study out of kindness. It was all a lie! If she hadn't seen the news on TV, he would have kept the truth away from her for the rest of her life.

'Wyn, when were you going to stop lying in my face? I was so stupid! Ever since we met, I've fallen into your trap. After that, I've only kept falling deeper and deeper. Now I'm left here to lick my wounds on my own.'

With her eyes red and swollen, the smile that surged on the corner of her lips was suddenly frightening.

"Michelle, I cooked some porridge for you. You drank a lot last night, so it's better if you don't eat anything too solid right now."

The moment Olivia showed up in front of her daughter again, she had a bowl of porridge in her hand.

Michelle glanced at the meal and shook her head blankly.

Olivia urged, unwilling to take 'no' as an answer, "I made it especially for you. If you don't eat it, all my time and efforts will have been for nothing."

She could understand how her daughter was feeling. Just like what happened to herself in the past, it might take Michelle a long time to get over such an emotional blow.

Heartbreak could be the hardest thing for a person to overcome in their life.

"Mom, I guess I want to go out and relax for a while." After a long time, Michelle opened her mouth to speak. Olivia nodded as she thought it was a good idea to go out for a walk. Yet she insisted, "Okay, but first, you'll have to eat the bowl of porridge."
