Chapter 10 Dangerous

Seemingly feeling heartbroken, Sara looked at Wendy up and down. After making sure that her daughter was all right, she quickly ran to the store nearby to buy a bottle of water. As soon as she got back, she quickly pried Harold away from Wendy and patted her back gently to calm her down.

At this point, Sane had already gotten off the bus as well. Looking at Wendy, he asked in confusion, "What's wrong with her?"

With a deep frown, Sara sighed and replied, "She has been having car sickness ever since she was a child. She ends up vomiting every time she rides a car. I was actually surprised that she didn't faint today, but I didn't expect that she would still throw up."

Wendy took the water bottle from her mother and rinsed her mouth right away. Then, she gasped, shook her head, and said, "I'm fine, Mom. There's no need to worry."

Terrified by the sight of the damaged bus, Sara said, "Wendy, you almost scared me to death! You never learned how to drive! How dare you touch the steering wheel?! And why did you have to drive? That was so reckless!"

"Well I..." Her mother's words rendered her speechless.

Hearing Sara's question, Harold raised his eyebrows in surprise. Then, he turned to look at Sane and they exchanged a meaningful glances with each other. After that, all of their eyes were focused on Wendy.

It wasn't like Wendy could tell her mother that she was a racing driver in her previous life. Rolling her eyes, she made up an excuse and explained, "I used to watch other people driving. I just tried to imitate what they did from memory. Even I didn't think I could actually drive."

Harold's eyebrows became deeply knit. It was clear as day that she wasn't telling the truth. When her life was hanging by a thread just now, the swift turns of the bus and the drifts without a hint of hesitation were not definitely something she could have pulled off just from observing others in the past.

"Didn't you throw up every time you rode a car before?" Sara asked, feeling so confused.

At that moment, Wendy had no idea how she was supposed to answer her mother's question. She nervously glanced at Harold, who instinctively turned to look at Sane. "Grandpa Sane, please wait here. I'm going to call the police."

"Okay, be careful," Sane replied, nodding his head in agreement.

'Did Harold hear my mom's question? Does he believe me?' Wendy worriedly thought to herself.

"Wendy?" Noticing that her daughter seemed to be distracted, Sara waved her hand in front of her.

When Wendy finally came to her senses and was about to think of a way to cover her lie, a local passer-by approached them and said, "What are you doing here? Sara, didn't you already move to the city? Why are you back here again?"

"It's a long story." Sara's heart sank when she said these words.

"What's happened to the bus? Most of the windows are broken."

When they noticed that the bus didn't seem right, a few onlookers walked over toward them. As soon as they caught a glimpse of the lifeless body and the blood all over the floor, they screamed in terror and ran away. "Ah! Blood! Someone fell down in the bus!"

"Call a doctor quick!"

A kind-hearted person immediately rushed into the small clinic to look for a doctor. After a while, several nurses ran toward the bus and carried the person out right away.

"Oh, my god! Why there is so much blood?"

"Weren't you riding on this bus, Sara? What on earth happened?"

Hearing the man's words, the crowd gathered around them, eager to find out what happened. This left Sara with no choice but to give them a run-through of what had just transpired.

The policemen arrived at the scene soon after they received Harold's call.

Because they were riding in the same bus with the deceased, they were all asked to come to the police station to get their statements recorded. By the time they were done, it was already getting dark outside.

Looking at Wendy, Sane sighed and said, "Thank you very much, little girl. If it wasn't for you, Harold and I wouldn't be standing here right now."

Wendy feigned embarrassment, scratching her head. "Don't mention it. I just somehow pulled it off by accident."

Sara asked, "You said that you're here on a trip, right? Is your luggage in the hotel?"

From the way they were dressed, Sara could tell that they couldn't be just some ordinary people.

"Yes, we left all of our luggage in the hotel," Sane replied.

"Do you know the way back?"

"I don't really know how to go back to the hotel. There aren't that many buses in this small town," Sane flatly replied, furrowing his eyebrows.

On the muddy road, there was not a single trace of a bus.

"At this time, you can still take the last bus from the town to the city. You just have to wait for about ten minutes or so."

"If we stay in the police station any longer, we'll have no choice but to stay here for tonight," Sane said with a playful smile.

Sara and Sane seemed to be on the same page.

The thought of her having to be separated from Harold once the bus arrived made Wendy feel so depressed. Although a bit hesitant, she looked at Harold in the eye.

The young Harold in front of her right now was even colder than he used to be in her memory.

Despite this, she knew how warmhearted he was under that cold stare. She thought of the day he got involved in the car accident for her sake, and how she was now living a life that was different from her previous one. After all she had to go through just to meet him, they had to part once again.

She couldn't hold back the tears as they rolled down her cheeks uncontrollably. Feeling the burning gaze she was giving him, Harold couldn't help frowning again. Then, he turned his head and just looked back at Wendy. At that moment, he saw something in her eyes that he just couldn't understand.

The cold gaze Harold was giving her startled Wendy so much that it helped bring her back to her senses. With that, she quickly averted her gaze and wiped her tears dry.

"Wendy, is something wrong? Why are you crying?" Noticing that her daughter started crying from out of the blue, Sara couldn't help worrying about her.

"I, I just got a little scared when I remembered what happened today," Wendy explained.

Sara was about to lose her mind; she just couldn't understand what was happening with Wendy. In the end, she just reached out her hand and rubbed her head, trying to comfort her, "The police are going to arrest the bad guys. Don't be scared, Wendy! What do you want to have for dinner? I'll cook it for you!"

"I don't really have an appetite. Could you just make some porridge?"

"Okay!" Sara saw the bus approaching and smiled, "Here comes the bus. Let's go back home."

"Okay," Wendy gently nodded her head. Then, she took a deep breath and looked toward Harold's direction.

They were going their separate ways. Would they ever get the chance to see each other again in this life? There was no way to tell.

"What? Wendy!"

"Watch out, Grandpa Sane!"

"Ah!"

In the blink of an eye, Wendy was pushed away with great force before she could even realize what had happened.

"Ah!" Her head bumped into the floor. It hurt so much that she was gasping in pain.

She tried to open her eyes to see what happened, but she felt a jolt of pain in her head. When she was stuck in a coma, she faintly saw her mother lying in a pool of blood.

It was a good thing that Harold was quick to react. He grabbed Sane's hand and pulled him out of the way. The two of them got up from the ground and watched as the bus ruthlessly ran Sara over and sped away.
