Chapter 9 Should We Bring Some Gifts

After Martin said that, the living room went quiet.

Cassandra's eyes widened, and she stopped in her tracks. The warm look on Martin's face disappeared. His eyes were as dark as ink as he stared at her.

'Is she unable to pretend to be a good wife any longer?' he wondered.

"Why didn't you tell me earlier? We're going to meet your family! What if your grandpa doesn't like me? Should I change into some clothes the aged may like? Martin, do you think he will like me?" Cassandra bombarded him with questions.

Martin was silent for a few moments, his expression unreadable. In a low voice, he replied, "Grandpa will like you."

Cassandra raised her head and asked in a shaky voice, "You think so? It's my first time meeting him. Should we bring some gifts?"

In her previous life, she seldom visited Johnson Lu, Martin's grandfather, because she was always at odds with Martin. At the time, the old man was in poor health. Every time she was there, she would make a scene. That was why Johnson didn't like her.

She didn't care about his opinions in her previous life. She wanted every Lu Clan member to despise her so Martin would let her go. However, the circumstances changed now. She had to please Martin and his family.

"No need," Martin answered shortly.

Cassandra asked, "Are you sure we don't need to bring anything? What does he like to eat? I'll prepare something for him next time. I think the aged like soft food. I'll find out what would be appropriate next time."

Martin's eyes softened at her. He was concerned that Cassandra would dislike their marriage, so he hesitated to bring her to meet his grandfather. He didn't expect that she would want to meet him.

"Don't you think you should figure out how to satisfy your husband?" Martin raised an eyebrow at her and gave her an amused look.

An alarm rang in Cassandra's head as she stared at Martin. 'Damn it! Is this monster teasing me?' she thought anxiously to herself.

"You're right, Mr. Lu. I won't make the same mistake again,"

Cassandra replied and cleared her throat.

The two made their way to the car side by side. Carlos was seated in the driver's seat and drove them out of the property without a word.

Martin was always mindful of his safety. After all, his brothers were often plotting against him. He had nine bodyguards with him today, and these bodyguards were only loyal to him.

Martin was aware that it was dangerous for him to go out that night, but he didn't know Lu Clan had arranged much more assassins to kill him. Cassandra remembered that some of them were professional killers employed by his family to get rid of him at all costs.

At this time in her previous life, Martin was in grave danger. He was betrayed by one of his employees and, as a result, suffered significant losses. What was worse, he was hurt severely by the assassins hired by Lu Clan. However, Cassandra was deceived by Susan and tried to escape from Yan Garden.

When she closed her eyes, Cassandra felt like she could still remember the faint smell of blood.

"Martin," Cassandra said in a low voice. She leaned her head against his firm shoulder and tried her best to recall those unpleasant memories from her past life.

She resisted him with everything she had before, but in this life, she realized that the only way she could be safe was by his side. Cassandra knew that even if he were to rain blood on the entire world, he would never hurt her.

Martin set aside his laptop and looked at Cassandra. "What is it?"

"I'm a bit hungry. If we turn left, there's a lovely sushi shop nearby. I'll buy some sushi for us, okay? Please stop the car there," she said with a pout.

She remembered that the next intersection was the place where Lu Clan's assassins planned to kill Martin. If they changed their route, could they escape from this disaster?

She could only be safe by Martin's side. Before she could be strong, she had to make sure that he was safe. She had to protect him so that he could protect her!

Carlos couldn't believe his ears. They were already late, and Martin was already in big trouble. Was this woman causing them trouble purpose?

"Sir, we're running out of time," Carlos said tentatively.

Martin rubbed his brow and commanded, "Turn left."

"What?"

'Damn it! He is a slave for his wife!' Carlos cursed inwardly.
