I was still wondering what exactly was going on in alpha Calhaun's head. He had three concubines and I was the fourth one, from the way Anna and Jane acted; the alpha had no issues in freeing them from the titles. Why were they still in the castle then? Engrossed in my own thoughts, when Laine approached me. "Greetings, miss Valeria." There was a smile on her face.
From the way she greeted me I could feel a genuine aura from her. However, I had to live up to Valeria's reputation, who was known for her reversed nature and cunning mind. "Please don't mistake my arrival for any challenge." Laine slightly hesitated, unlike the other two women. "I hold no grudge against you. Alpha Calhaun has brought you here and I wish you the best."
Laine bowed slightly while her two maids stood a bit behind her. "No challenge and no grudge, you say?" Raising my eyes at her I examined Laine from head to toe. "Must be some other backhand reason for all this reassurance. Ain't it?" Laine's eyes widened at
my words, knowing how easily I caught her. "I would prefer you to come clean with me, if you are here to wish me the best."
I could see her expressions changing and turning into soft ones. "Miss Valeria, as you are aware of my position. I am the least favoured mistress of alpha Calhaun." Laine tried to elaborate what she desired from me as a favour. "I humbly request you to spare me from all these conspiracy events which would occur ahead. I wouldn't dare do anything against you."
Placing the wine glass on the marbled counter I gestured to the bartender. "Sounds like you are already aware of the cliche events." Seeing that there were three women already who had been demoted to mistress states. It was not hard for me to stay alert for the conspiracies ahead. Leaning against the shelf I smirked. "What is your exchange offer, Miss Laine?"
I could see her expressions changing in amazement once again. "You are living up to your reputation, Miss Valeria. Just as I heard." Smiling at her, knowing what Laine meant by those words. Valeria Hayden, the one everyone knew was a witty woman. Somewhere deep down I felt like my thirst for revenge mingled with her nature. Perhaps, which was why I felt a surge of power.
"I wish that I had something precious to exchange. All I can offer is my support and inside information." Laine lowered her head with her eyes having the emotion of pain. "Though alpha Calhaun doesn't favour me, his other mistresses have a hobby of ridiculing me. I know a lot about both of them, which I will willingly share. All I ask in return is...please spare me. I cannot take it anymore."
Her eyes grew teary when the maids behind Laine also bowed their heads. I could understand the gesture, she was indeed living a life bad as hell. Raising my one eyebrow in curiosity, without disclosing any sympathy for her. "What makes you think you are important enough for me to waste my time upon?" Taking the wine glass from the bartender, I twirled it while adjusting my eyes on her.
"I would rather prefer making a child for the alpha than wasting my energy on you." Sipping over the drink, glancing at her with my shining emerald eyes. "Don't worry, Miss Laine. I pose no harm to you, unless you strike first." Raising my glass at her, smiling at her I could see Laine stunned. "Now, excuse me." Walking away in the opposite direction with the glass.
Laine's worry seemed genuine if Anna and Jane had been making her life miserable. I could use that in my favour when needed, all I needed was to show my support to Laine. Nonetheless, while heading towards the other corner of the hall where alpha Calhaun was having some chat. Placing my hand over his shoulder, snagging the alpha's attention. Just as I should have.
"Shall we have a dance, alpha?" Alpha Calhaun stared at me without any expression. It appeared he was stunned by my boldness. "Certainly!" A smirk appeared on his lips, I chugged down the drink while looking at him. Dropping the glass right there instead of putting it anywhere. All the other men to whom he had been talking stepped away from us with a gasp.
Alpha Calhaun didn't move from his spot, instead he seemed amused with my actions. Extending his arm towards me with a lopsided grin. I could see that for some reason he was staring in my eyes. "Shall we?" Slipping my arm into his, I was led in the midst of the hall while everyone gave us way. Placing my hand over his shoulder, with alpha Calhaun pulling me closer from waist.
A gasp escaped my lips as I grinned at him. "Naughty, eh?" One of my hands caressed his neck, while the other rested on his chest. For some reason his heartbeat was calm even when I was making advancements on him. Alpha Calhaun stared deeply into my eyes as if he could see past my antics. "That's what you are, Miss Valeria." Swirling me around, I heard his words.
Turning and tucking me towards his chest, alpha Calhaun toyed with my blonde hair lock. "You wouldn't stare into my eyes, little girl." Leaning in towards my ear, his whisper sent a chill down my spine. "If you knew, I could see souls. You are not Valeria Hayden." As the alpha straightened himself with a grin, which I wanted to snatch off his face. My lie was caught. Would he kill me?
