Chapter 6

"Are you planning to have children?"

"Why do you ask?"

The veterinarian's smile was somewhat bitter. "Many pet owners decide to find new homes for their animals when expecting a child, as they believe it might be difficult to care for both."

A child was on the way.

But not hers.

Jordyn felt reluctant.

After all, she had raised the kitten for so many years and had grown attached to it.

But if she were to leave, it would be difficult to bring the cat along. The flight's long duration raised concerns about potential mishaps.

"Please, help find it a new home as soon as possible."

"Oh, by the way, a sweet and innocent young woman came by today, played with the kitten for quite a while, and seemed to really like it. Let me contact her."

The veterinarian reached out, and the woman expressed her eagerness to adopt the kitten immediately.

Jordyn waited at the pet hospital and met the adopter.

She was indeed a sweet and innocent young woman who genuinely adored the kitten.

Jordyn agreed and even gave the woman some money.

The woman refused, saying, "I'm adopting it; I can't take your money. Please, take it back."

Jordyn insisted, pressing the money into her hands. "The kitten is old and has a genetic condition. There will be medical expenses in the future. Consider this an advance on those costs."

The woman finally accepted, expressed her gratitude, and left with the kitten.

Her phone chimed with a message.

[Brice: Baby, did you have fun today? I miss you so much.]

Jordyn let out a cold laugh.

She replied directly: [I'll catch a flight back now. Meet me at the airport in three hours.]

Brice responded quickly: [No, don't change your plans for me. Enjoy yourself. I can wait.]

Jordyn almost laughed out loud.

Oh, men, your affection is so cheap.

You can't even withstand a little test yet pretend to be so deeply in love.

[Brice: Did you take any good photos? Let me see how beautiful my wife looks.]

Jordyn searched online for a few scenic photos, removed the watermarks, and sent them to him.

[Brice: Why just landscapes? Where's my baby?]

[Jordyn: I'm tired, going to sleep.]

[Brice: Okay, rest well. Love you.]

Jordyn stayed at the hotel for three days, recharging and planning.

After leaving here, she wanted to visit the Nordic countries, see the Northern Lights, then head to Africa to witness wildlife and the savannah.

After that, she had booked a private getaway for the long term.

The island belonged to a nearby small country and couldn't be bought, so she rented it for a hundred years.

It was the home she chose for herself.

In the future, she would face the sea, where spring blossoms.

On the fifth morning, she didn't check out but extended her stay for two more days to keep her luggage there until she left.

Then, she took a taxi to the airport.

Soon, the driver arrived.

"Ma'am, you're finally back. Mr. Song has been mentioning your name every day till it's starting to echo in our ears, " he said with a chuckle.

Jordyn said nothing and got into the car.

She had heard enough of these insincere words and didn't want to respond, lest she hear more lies.

Once home, everything was as it had been when she left.

Brice gave her a big hug. "Welcome home, my dear." Mrs. Wang was also thrilled.

"Madam, Mr. Song instructed me early this morning to buy all your favorite ingredients. I've prepared all your favorite dishes today."

Brice leaned in closer, gently rubbing against her. "They say a little distance can strengthen love. You must be feeling better now, right? Shall we go to bed early tonight?"

Jordyn pushed him away. "I'm tired."

"You can sleep, and I'll keep myself occupied."

He tried to cling to her, but the next moment, the door swung open.

Brad stood awkwardly at the entrance. "Oh, Jordyn, you're back?"

Jordyn felt the arms around her stiffen instantly.

She smiled slightly. "Brad, long time no see. Why did you suddenly return to the country? Not used to living abroad?"

"I... " Brad hesitated. "I just left my bag at home. I'll grab it and go."

As soon as he finished speaking, there was a thunderous crash overhead.

The massive crystal chandelier in the villa had come loose and crashed down.

In a split second, Brice dashed towards Brad, throwing himself over her. "Watch out!"
