He flung the door open and rushed outside, but the corridor was completely silent; there was no one there.
Brad also came over, puzzled, "What's wrong, Brice?"
Brice shook his head, "I thought I heard the doorbell ring and thought someone might be eavesdropping."
Brad glanced around, chuckling softly, "You're just on edge. Wind chimes ring whenever there's a breeze; there's no need to be so alarmed."
Brice furrowed his brow, "Perhaps you're right."
The driver chimed in, "Mr. Song, don't worry. I personally saw your wife enter the boarding gate. She should be on the plane now."
Brice still felt uneasy, so he dialed Jordyn's number.
A mechanical voice responded: "Sorry, the number you dialed is currently turned off."
Upon hearing this message, Brice finally relaxed.
"I guess I really was overthinking."
He wrapped an arm around Brad and settled back onto the sofa as the door closed automatically.
In the corner of the wall behind the door, Jordyn's hand shook slightly as she held her phone.
She covered her mouth and nose, quietly exiting the house.
She hailed a cab and gave the driver the address of a hotel.
The driver asked, "Miss, why are you crying? Did you have a fight with your husband?"
Jordyn wiped away her tears and shook her head, "No, we didn't fight."
Indeed, there was no longer any need for arguments.
Brad was pregnant, and Brice had already started calling his parents and even the housekeeper referred to Brad as "the lady of the house." They were the real family now.
As far as everyone was concerned, Jordyn was just a fool.
At the hotel, she took a nap.
When she estimated the plane was about to land, she turned on her phone.
Sure enough, within minutes, Brice's call came through: "Honey, did you land safely?"
"Yes, I'm already at the hotel."
"Great, enjoy yourself. When you return, I'll pick you up at the airport."
"...Okay."
After hanging up, Jordyn went to the bank.
She withdrew all the money from her cards and then headed to the department store to buy a suitcase and some clothes to change into.
She brought the suitcase back to the hotel, ready for when she needed to leave.
As she packed the things needed for her departure, Jordyn thought about the cat that had been left at the pet hospital due to ringworm.
They had found the stray kitten together when they first met, frail and barely alive.
They took it to the pet hospital for treatment, and it took three months for the kitten to recover.
When they brought it home, he said, "Jordyn, from now on, we're its parents. You should name it."
Back then, Jordyn was only 18, suddenly found herself playing the role of a mother.
She was also forced into being labeled as "the mother of his son."
Later, she realized Brice had liked her all along, and he had deliberately placed the stray kitten along Jordyn's school route, waiting for her to find it.
When she uncovered his plan, Brice half-heartedly complained, "I tried every day to run into you, but you treated me like I was invisible. I had no choice but to resort to this. What can I do? I'm just so in love with you, to the point where it's you or nothing."
But was it really only her?
No, it wasn't.
Besides her, there was Brad.
He loved her, but he also loved Brad.
In his heart, he gave his affection and accolades to Jordyn but gave Brad a child, seemingly fair.
But Brice, Jordyn is not a pushover.
If your love is no longer pure, then I'd rather not have it.
You don't need to be constantly worried about keeping things from me. I can find peace in solitude.
She went to the pet hospital to see the kitten.
The veterinarian smiled and asked, "Why didn't your partner come with you today? You usually come together."
Jordyn replied blandly, "He's busy."
"Oh, I see." The veterinarian said, "The kitten's ringworm is completely healed. You can take it home today."
But Jordyn said, "I don't plan to take it home. Please help find a reliable person to adopt the kitten."
