They exchanged greetings and he entered the apartment. It seemed like it hadn't been cleaned for days. Which wasn't alarming with everything that was going on around Selene.
"I miss her." Caleb said.
Selene hugged him. "As bad as she was, she didn't deserve to be killed."
Caleb hugged her back. He suddenly but gently took ahold of her face.
He kissed her. Selene felt the warmth coursing through her body. But she didn't return the kiss.
She got away from his embrace.
"I'm sorry. This is too soon. You just lost Olivia." Selene told Caleb without even looking at him.
"But we can be together now." Caleb said.
She glanced at him. "It's complicated."
Caleb frowned. "Is there someone else?"
She looked at the ground, afraid to meet his gaze.
Caleb was angry now. He gnashed his teeth together. He took ahold of Selene's shoulders and pushed her up against a wall.
"Tell me his name!" He growled with his fangs out and red eyes glowing.
"I-it's R-Ronan." She started crying.
Caleb transformed back. He let go of her and without saying another word, exited the apartment.
Selene had her face in her hands. She was crying and yearning for Ronan's touch. Ronan was right. She wasn't weak. She just needed support.
Evening turned into night. Selene was back in bed.
Ronan?
Yes, my dear?
I feel so alone. Can you come here?
Not now. I'm investigating. But I can be with you in spirit.
She suddenly fell into a vision. She was seated at a fancy restaurant's dinner table. She looked at herself. She was dressed in an elegant gown, fit for a princess. She looked in front of her. Ronan was wearing the same blue suit the night he saved her.
He reached out and took her hand in his. It was hard and gentle at the same time.
He kissed her on the hand, his lips making her tremble. Selene knew she was actually in bed but she felt like she was at that table.
The scene shifted.
She and Ronan were at a forest. The sun was shining through the vast trees. The smell of flowers made the scene the more majestic.
Ronan cupped her chin. They looked into each other's eyes. They kissed. Both of their eyes turned red. Sexual tension was in the air. Ronan touched the small of her back. She whimpered. She wanted him inside of her. Just when things were about to get even spicier her mobile phone rang.
She woke up. It was an urgent message. There was a midnight meeting for the members of her pack.
**
She had dressed hurriedly and her hair was all in tangles. But she had made it. The meeting had begun. All of her pack members from the Betas and Omegas to the Alphas were there.
"We need to begin the search for this rogue werewolf." Alpha Brandon declared.
Everyone started agreeing in unison.
"I am sure it is the same rogue that killed Selene Carter's parents." Alpha Warren announced.
Most of them agreed. Selene nodded her head but did not forget Ronan's warning.
After the meeting was adjourned, Selene retreated to the barn to meet the Beta healer Anna. She was an old werewolf who had never transitioned to Omega.
"What can I help you with, dear?" Anna asked Selene.
"it's my back." Selene told her. "Olivia pushed me into the barn the other night and it's still soar."
Anna chuckled. "So that's why there's a crack in the barn. Take off your shirt. Let's take a look at it."
They were all alone so Selene could undress herself. She did as she was told. Beta Anna took a look at her back and it was red all over. She opened up one of her healing creams and gently massaged it over Selene's back.
"I have something to tell you, dear." Beta Anna said as she was massaging Selene.
"What is it?"
"Your mother was not just any werewolf. She descended from a line of ancient werewolves." Anna explained.
Selene turned around to face her. "Is this true?"
"Yes. Only a few werewolves know of this. As I was close to your mother, she told me about her bloodline. You are a continuation of it, my dear."
"Is this why she and Father were killed?" Selene asked putting her shirt back on.
"That's all I know. I'm afraid."
**
Selene was back at the crime scene. Most of the damage had been cleared. The place looked restored and her pack had taken Olivia's body away.
What is that? Selene thought as she saw a trinket on Olivia's bedside table.
She touched it and her eyes rolled up inside her head. She started having visions. She was taken to the stone age. Someone was making a mark on a cave wall. Selene recognized it. It was the symbol of her mother's pack before she was accepted into her father's clan which was her own current pack.
The symbol was being made by blood but one female werewolf. After the symbol was completed, the woman turned around, raised a finger to her lips and went, Shhhh.
Selene came out of the vision and dropped the trinket to the floor. It broke apart easily. She bent down to retrieve the parts but did not have another vision when she touched them.
