Chapter 2 Death

Bella's POV

I dashed into the hospital, and the usual beeping sounds of the machines filled the air. The annoying smell of the herbs and antidotes clouded the atmosphere and the busy chatter in the hospital scattered my thoughts.

I put on my gown in the dressing room and rushed to meet Ellis. He must be cross by now.

"Bella, why are you late?" He groaned. "I sent Chloe early enough to get you and you still defied me and came late?" He queried.

"I... I... I'm sorry." I stuttered. "Please sir, it was not my intention," I begged, my head bowed in remorse.

"Do you know that the Alpha just left here a few minutes ago and he asked me if all the Omegas were here before he left? Do you know if he saw you when you rushed in here? Do you know what that would mean for both of us?" He scolded, his voice like thunder and his eyes burning with rage.

"I'm sorry sir. I promise it won't happen again."

"Get the fuck out of my sight and get to work." He screamed, the echoes of his voice ringing in my ears. "Go to ward 3, there are some Betas that need their wounds cleaned up."

I did not waste a second, I dashed out and headed straight to my first assignment.

Thank God the Alpha did not see me. That would have automatically sent me to the dungeon and I would be tried before the elders for defiance of orders.

Fuck. That would be very bad for me. Jeez, man.

I was breathing heavily, my heart was pounding inside my chest, and my mind spanned with thoughts.

I pushed the door open and the metallic scent of blood filled the air and made my stomach churn. Right from day one, I hated being an Omega, most especially working in the damn hospital.

Well, that's what fate gave me. I have no choice but to accept it. Besides, these were warriors, if I behaved awkwardly here, they'd just report me to the Alpha, and he'd have my head served on a platter. He took them like gold, that's why they took us like shit.

"Good morning." I greeted them warmly. "I'm here to clean your wounds guys. I promise you, it's gonna be painless." I teased.

They were definitely not in the mood for jokes right now. Their stern faces gave me the best answer I needed.

I began with the process of losing the bandage and started with the cleaning process.

It was kinda painful so they moaned softly.

Soon, I was done with the first three and I had just one bad boy left to deal with.

He was looking severe.

"Hi, what's your name?" I asked politely, caressing his injured limb.

"Jose." He moaned painfully.

"Okay, Jose. I'll be your nurse and I'm gonna help you with your injury. You'll be alright, I promise." I smiled, my heart pounding inside my chest and my eyes fixed on his limb.

I carefully observed his wound, unlike others, he had his bone broken to pieces and stuck out his skin. He was moaning in pain and I noticed the extent of the situation. One wrong move and he's gone. If I toss him over, he'll have his belly stabbed with his bone.

Oh shit. Damn it, man. Why would Ellis send me to motherfucking do this? He knows I've never done this kind of shit before. I'm just a good for nothing Bella that knows no shit about this damn job. Fuck!!!

All I was taught was how to fucking clean wounds and do some shitty jobs just to ease him off some work. I'm not a damn medical practitioner. What the fuck?

I noticed the panic in his eyes, noticing my undeniable fear. He was shivering and the beeping of the machine was rapidly increasing.

Oh, my fuck!

His eyes were slowly beginning to close. The others were fast asleep. The anesthetic was still strong on them, I could not even ask anyone anything.

He looked into my eyes, seeing deep into my perplexed mind, and begged for his life.

"Help me. Please." He whispered, struggling to lift his hands to my face.

I was damn clueless and did not know what to even do at this point. I should go get Ellis.

"I'll be right back," I said, feigning a reassuring smile. "Let me go get the doctor. I promise I'll be right back." I pleaded. "Will you wait for me?"

"I'll try." He muttered. He was pale, and his skin grew cold. His pulse rapidly deteriorated, and his breath was shaky. He saw death hovering right in his eyes.

Immediately, I ran out in search of Ellis. My heart throbbed inside my chest. My eyes fixed on my goal, Ellis. My mind was saturated with thoughts and clouded with fear. I can't lose him. God!!

I saw Ana sitting inside his office. She was an Omega like me, but she was brought into the hospital just yesterday. She'll be beginning her orientation and training tomorrow.

I can't dare tell her anything about what the fuck is going on. I tried to look deeper into the office, my eyes scanning for any glimpse of Ellis. Oh no, I found none.

I still pressed on, my feet pushing through the floor and bouncing into the office.

"Yo! Bella! What the fuck!? You scared me!" She screamed, her heart already far away from her chest.

"I'm sorry. Where is Doctor Ellis?" I screamed, my voice piercing into the air and my breath heavy.

"He left to go meet the Alpha. One of his Betas came to get him." She replied, her eyes prying into my mind.

"Is anything the matter?"

"No!" I snapped and fled. I did not even care about any other thing she had to say. She's so fucking annoying and snoopy. Jeez!

My heart throbbed inside my chest as I passed through the crowd roaming about in the hospital.

"Hey! Watch it! Jerk!"

That did not stop me. Somebody was fucking dying and they're fucking screaming.

I fucking don't understand why we have just one doctor in this hospital. Why should the alpha call him now? Why now? He knows what's going on here and right now, why should he send for Ellis now?

I can't dare meet any of these senior nurses. They'll fucking kill me with silly questions. Damn!

I hurried back to my ward, my eyes fixed on my dying patient.

"You'll be alright. I promise." I assured.

He was struggling for breath. I put on the oxygen mask and tried to stabilize him. His heart was already seizing.

Oh no. What should I do?

I remembered one of the last cases we had in the hospital when Ellis was around. He gave him some sort of antidote. I remembered he said this was poisoning. Yeah. Thank God.

Immediately, I scattered the whole place, tearing everything apart until I found the antidote.

"Gosh." I exhaled, panting heavily.

I looked into his eyes, gulped in some saliva, and went close to him.

The worst of this whole thing is I don't even know how to do this. How do they expect me to go about this? Well, I'll take my chance. I can't let him die.

I took a deep breath and cleaned his cold arm and stabbed the syringe into his arm. He winced softly, he was too weak to scream.

I laid his head softly on the pillow and took a step back, carefully observing what the next reaction would be, my heart pounding heavily inside my chest and my legs trembling.

You know, for a moment, it was as if all was fine. He was stabilizing. His pulse was returning back to normal, and his body was warming up.

I let out a deep breath and rested my heart.

"Thank God. You're alright." I whispered in his ears.

Suddenly, the pulse machine started screaming rapidly. It's voice echoing in my ears and spreading the goodness of confusion in my shitty head.

I watched him struggle for his life again and I stood perplexed. I was frozen. It felt like Ellis was standing by my side. He whispered in my ears, don't just stare, do something.

I rushed to him with a surge of adrenaline, held him close to my side,, and began with the cardio revival process.

"Stay with me," I screamed, pressing his chest with all the atoms of strength left in me.

"Stay with me..."
