Bella's POV
"Bella! Bella! Bella!!" Rose screamed, her voice reverberating in my ears.
"Get your lazy ass up, girl!" She called and beat my leg.
"Oh, Rose! What is it this time?" I queried, yawning loudly as I woke from my long sleep. My bones cracked as I stretched my body and my eyelids tightly closed as the morning sun radiated through the window and made contact with it.
"Chloe's in the living room waiting for you. She says it's urgent." She said, her voice warm like the melody of the birds singing outside. "I'm heading out now, I'll see you later." She smiled, kissed my forehead warmly, and hurried out.
I struggled to my feet and went to the living room and found Chloe, my best friend, seated there, waiting for me.
"Hi." I greeted her and headed straight to the couch where she sat.
"Bella, how was your night?"
"Not bad, but tiring." I yawned.
"I'm sorry to bother you, I know last night must have been tough for you, but Ellis sent me here." She paused, allowing the words to sink inside me.
The mention of Ellis struck me with awe. He is the pack's doctor and my boss. I'm an Omega and serve at the hospital and help him clean wounds and do some minor nursing jobs. Rose, on the other hand, is a beta. She's a fierce warrior and serves at the palace. Chloe here is my best friend and also a beta too.
She has been my best friend ever since we were kids and has also saved me from lots of trouble. In fact, she's my partner in crime.
Being an Omega is very difficult, and most especially for me. I've been mocked countless times because of my status in the pack as an Omega. I don't know who my real father is, but it was rumored some time ago that he was an Alpha. For this very reason, I'm expected to also have the Alpha blood in me or at least, a beta. But my case is different, it turned out worse for me. All I've got is being an Omega, but what can I do about it?
Well, I've come to accept life the way I see it, but I always dream of being an Alpha. Well, hopefully, someday.
I wonder why he would need me at the hospital so early. Last night, we had to work all through the night because some of the warriors were badly injured. Our pack has been facing a series of attacks from the Crescent pack. We've been fighting several battles on all fronts and the hospital is always very busy.
I raised an eyebrow at her, signaling her to explain. I know very well he wouldn't have sent for me if it wasn't urgent, but I just couldn't pinpoint what could have happened.
"He asked me to call you to report to the hospital immediately. After another confrontation with the Crescents, some warriors have also returned this morning, some badly wounded." She said, her voice laced with seriousness. "He warned that no Omega should be absent his or herself, otherwise, they'll face the wrath of the Alpha." She concluded, her face etched with concern.
"Okay, let me go freshen up, I'll join you in a jiffy." I smiled reluctantly and went back to my room.
What the fuck!? I thought today was gonna be for me. I've already made plans with Luka. What am I going to do now? Failing to obey this call would definitely attract serious punishments to me. I don't know what to do now? Maybe, I'll first go to his house and tell him about this new development before going to the hospital. No, that would waste my time, and appearing late before Ellis would only make things worse for me. Well, he'll understand. I'll explain later to him when I'm back. He knows how difficult it is for people like me, so he'll not be so mad at me. After all, it's not my fault.
Luka is my boyfriend and a beta too. I adore him and love him fiercely. Whenever I'm around him, I feel safe. I thought I'd be joining him today, but be it as it is, I can't. It's so frustrating. Damn!
"Bella!!" Chloe called, "What is taking so long?"
"Sorry. I'll be with you soon. Give me a second."
I did not want to waste her time further. I got into the bathroom and tossed my brush into my mouth, scrubbing every part of my teeth and tongue, making sure it was sparkling. Now, the part I loved was the shower.
This was the best part, and it always felt new and refreshing. This was the only way I burned out my worries.
The cool water seeped into my skin, moving to my bones, and quenched the fire that was burning hot inside me. Yo, this was something I always enjoyed man.
After I had enjoyed myself to my satisfaction, I knew Chloe must be boiling by now, but I did not mind. After all, it was not so late at the moment.
I dried my body, the warmth of the towel comforting my soul. My heart was at rest and I just enjoyed the moment. In a few minutes from now, I'll be in the hospital, dealing with the sick scent of blood and even cleaning those wounds.
Yuck! It always makes me feel dizzy and makes my stomach churn, but I can't do anything about it. It's a daily routine, so I've gotten used to it now, it's somehow normal for me now.
I selected a dress from my wardrobe and put it on. There's no need to look at myself in the mirror, after all, I'm not going to see Luka today. I hung my lab coat on my shoulder and headed out to meet with Chloe. She was already furious now.
"Bella, what took you so long?" She queried. "Do you realize how urgent this is and you're joking around?" She screamed, her eyes red with rage.
"I'm sorry." I apologized, my head bowed and I struggled to hold back the laughter in me. "But I'm done now, we can go." I chuckled and pushed her shoulder softly.
We left the house and headed to the path of the hospital.
"Chloe, I was supposed to meet with Luka today," I said, my voice heavy with worry.
"So?" She snapped nonchalantly at me.
"Come on, what am I going to tell him? He'll be mad at me." I replied frantically.
"He'll understand. He should know how the pack works. You can't absent yourself because you want to meet up with him, you know what that means for you, right?" She asked, her eyes fixed on me.
"Yeah I know, but..."
"Don't worry. He'll be fine."
For a moment, I was silent, the only sound I heard was the rustling of leaves beneath our feet and the singing of the birds in the distance. The chatter from afar joined to disrupt my thoughts.
My mind raced with what to do. I can't just leave him standing and I also can't miss being in the hospital today. I was confused and perplexity hovered around me. My mind was clouded in fear and the air was thick with confusion.
I looked at Chloe, and suddenly, an idea popped up in my head. A cheeky smile played across my face and my gaze fixed on her, as if I saw Luka there.
"Why are you smiling, young lady? What is going on in that little head of yours?" She sneered, noticing my sudden reaction.
"Well, nothing much." I smiled. "Chloe, where are you headed after now?"
"I don't have a shift at the palace today. I'll just go home and rest today." She exhaled, she must have been exhausted, too. Last night was not so easy for both of us. Although her team was not on deployment last night, all hands were on deck, and no one slept.
"Okay, perfect. I need you to stop by Luka's place and help me tell him about today and why I won't be able to make it."
I noticed the shock in her eyes. She was completely hit by confusion and was dazzled by my request. She was awestruck and her eyes widened in confusion.
It's just a simple request. In the same way, she came to my house this morning to tell me what Ellis said, she'll also do the same for me. I see no reason for her shock.
"Is there a problem?" I asked, my eyes prying into her mind.
"No, not at all. I'll do it." She replied coldly, trying to hide her resentments.
I knew she was not very comfortable about it, but she was hiding it. It's nothing. Just a little message from me to him through her, that's all.
"Chloe, are you sure everything is okay?" I pressed.
"Yeah, it's all good love. I'll stop by his place and tell him." She smiled, but it was weak and I could sense the doubts in her voice.
"Alright. I'll be on my way now." I smiled.
We had come to a junction and that's where we'll part ways.
"See ya later." I greeted and she just waved back at me, her face cold and her heart pounding.
I was not bothered at first and shoved it off, but as I moved further, I couldn't shake off the thought that there was something fishy about her sudden change of expression. I just don't know what, but there's definitely something suspicious she's not telling.
Well, she's my best friend and she'll help me. Maybe she's still in shock as a result of yesterday's bloodshed and reacted that way.
That's all I can think of. Maybe his name reminded her of something ugly yesterday.
Aha, I even forgot, I wanted to ask her about her boyfriend, Josh. It's been a while since I last saw him. When I'm back, that's gonna be our first topic of discussion. For now, I need to focus on getting to that damn hospital on time.
"Oh my! It's already 9:00 o'clock. Fuck! I'm cooked." I screamed and ran off. I'm damn late already.
