"Not in college, aunty. I work at a convenience store and cafe. I'm just a freelancer and not a rich kid," Laura replied.
Mona smiled. She seemed to like Laura's honesty more than the other girls out there who were proud and covered up their shortcomings. Mona put plenty of meat on Laura's plate, while Darrel was thrilled that his mommy had given the green light.
"Daddy, look, Mommy agrees," Darrel said.
"Daddy still doesn't agree," Aslan replied.
"Aslan, you have no right to stand in the way of your son's happiness."
When Monica arrived, Laura's heart sank. She hoped the girl wouldn't say what she saw in the restroom.
Five minutes later, Monica ate and played with her cell phone without discussing what she saw.
"Oh yeah, Aslan, where's your woman?" Mona asked.
"Daddy is single, and no one wants a stiff guy like him," Darrel mocked.
Aslan smiled wryly and looked at Laura, who was looking down at her roast beef.
Suddenly, Laura put her fork down on her plate, making a loud noise. Everyone stared in astonishment. As Laura stood up, she began to shed tears.
"Darrel, I'm sorry. Our relationship is over here. We're not compatible," Laura said.
Of course, Darrel was shocked. Why was Laura suddenly like that? Laura walked out of the restaurant, followed by Darrel. Aslan sighed and glanced at Monica. The girl just looked at him flatly; she didn't even comment on the incident earlier.
"Monica, what are you thinking?" Aslan asked.
Monica shrugged her shoulders and looked at the cell phone again. The girl was indeed ignorant of her surroundings, which surprised Aslan even more. Usually, a girl would be close to her father, but not Monica. Since her parents divorced, Monica preferred to go with her mama rather than Aslan.
"Why did you suddenly ask for a breakup?" Darrel asked.
The two of them became the spectacle of the surrounding visitors.
"Darrel, I'm sorry. We're not compatible," Laura replied.
"We're getting married, and now I've introduced you to my family. Did Daddy scold you? Didn't you go to the bathroom? What did Daddy talk to you about?" asked Darrel.
The streaks of emotion were visible, especially since Laura was glancing at Aslan inside. Darrel dragged her roughly and brought her in front of the family.
"What did you say in the bathroom? Threatening Laura?" Darrel asked Aslan. "Monica, you went to the bathroom too, right? What did you hear them talking about?" Darrel asked his sister.
Monica shrugged her shoulders and played with her cell phone. Darrel became even more annoyed and looked at Laura, who could only look down and cry. Darrel hugged her tightly and kissed her forehead, showing how much he cared for her.
"Do you want to know why Daddy forbade you to marry him?" Aslan said.
Laura closed her eyes and numbed her ears, not wanting to hear if Aslan was telling the truth.
"Why is he poor? Older than me?" Darrel asked.
Aslan shook his head. "Sorry, Darrel. This whole thing was an accident."
They were getting dizzy with Aslan's words.
"Daddy, tell me the truth!"
Aslan looked down at Laura, who was already sobbing.
"Daddy should marry her because we had a night full of sex," Aslan explained.
Everyone was shocked; Darrel was speechless. He immediately went limp while his mom hugged him from the side. Jordan, her new husband, could only wipe his rough face. He had organized a meal together this time to strengthen the relationship, but it became like this.
"You're crazy, Aslan! You hurt your son. What kind of father are you?" Mona snapped.
"It all happened by accident. I didn't know she was Darrel's girlfriend because we'd never met before," Aslan replied.
Mona stood up and slapped Laura.
Plak!
"You don't know yourself; Darrel shouldn't have anything to do with you."
Mona invited the others to go home. She was very disappointed with her ex-husband. Darrel looked upset at his daddy. He thought that his daddy was so nice and that he had stayed with him all this time, but the facts showed that Aslan was a bad person.
"You guys are having an affair? Right, Laura?" asked Darrel.
"Darrel, I'm not having an affair with your father. We..."
"Enough! I'm sick of you guys, especially you, Laura. You're so innocent. You don't even want to do it with me, not even with my daddy. What a slut!"
Darrel walked out of the restaurant, leaving only Aslan and Laura. Laura continued to shed tears as she felt ashamed of Darrel. If only she hadn't asked her friends for help finding a job online, none of this would have happened.
Aslan handed Laura a tissue, but he had to take responsibility for now.
"Where is your real home? I'll take responsibility for marrying you," Aslan said.
"Uncle is not in his right mind. Why would you say this to Darrel when I will end the relationship and walk away from your life? Why are you making things so difficult?" Laura asked.
"Girl, it's the truth, so what else can I do? You're the stupid one; how could you get drunk and set up by your friends?"
Laura's eyes glared at Aslan. "You were sober at the time, so why are you blaming me? You wouldn't have done that to me if you were nice."
"I intended to find a woman. Never mind, arguing with you is giving me a headache."
Laura got out of there and took a taxi. If Darrel revealed all this to others, it would cause more trouble. Laura wanted to run away, but she couldn't quit her job.
Tin!!!!!!
The taxi suddenly stopped; Laura looked at the car blocking her taxi. Aslan got out of the car and pulled Laura out. Aslan paid the taxi fare and invited Laura to get in his vehicle.
"What do you want?" Laura asked.
"We're going to apologize to Darrel and explain what happened. In case he forgives. Otherwise, Darrel will leave the house and go with his mama," Aslan replied.
"Uncle is only thinking about his feelings. How can I show this face to Darrel? I'm so ashamed of him. How could I play with his father?" Laura replied.
Aslan suddenly stopped his car at the side of the road. He looked seriously into Laura's face. "We've all been trapped in this situation. We can't get out until Darrel forgives us. Do you understand?"
"Then what's uncle's plan?"
"We have to get Darrel's blessing to get married."
