Chapter 5 Sweet Revenge

"Laura, are you sure you don't want us to drive you home?"

Upon arriving at the airport, Laura said goodbye and decided to go home by taxi. Angie and Dalton had intended to drive her home.

Laura couldn't bear to see Angie acting so clingy on the plane earlier.

Laura was starting to feel jealous...

"It's really okay! I'll call you as soon as I get home. Thank you for the vacation; I'll never forget our time there!"

Angie hugged her best friend. "Don't forget, tomorrow is my and Dalton's wedding anniversary party. You have to come and wear the dress I gave you!" Angie said before finally letting Laura go.

Angie and Dalton made sure Laura got into a taxi.

After that, they went home.

"Honey, why do I feel like Laura's attitude has changed? Usually, she's chatty, but these past few days she hasn't said much?"

"I don't know; she's your best friend. You should know her better," Dalton replied flatly.

In his heart, Dalton was also worried about Laura's change in attitude, but he couldn't show it in front of his wife.

What Dalton wanted was for Laura to act like her usual self around Angie so that Angie wouldn't suspect anything.

"I'll make her tell me later! Oh yeah, for tomorrow's event, let me handle it! I'll make sure our wedding anniversary is unforgettable!"

"It's unusual for you to want to take care of things like that. But okay, do whatever you want!" Dalton gave his permission.

The man couldn't refuse his wife's requests.

"If Laura hadn't been so cold earlier, she would have helped me prepare for tomorrow's event!" Angie complained sadly.

Actually, Angie had approached Laura for a reason. Angie's kind and caring attitude towards Laura stemmed from guilt over a past event that Laura herself didn't even know about.

Eventually, Angie came to love Laura like her own sister.

"Don't think too much about Laura; maybe she's just cold because she's tired. I'm sure she'll be back to normal later. We're home, so we shouldn't talk about Laura in front of Dad!"

The couple got out of the car and were warmly greeted by Edward.

"Dad!" Angie ran to hug Edward.

"My daughter! How was your honeymoon?" Edward couldn't wait to hear Angie's story.

"This isn't a honeymoon; my marriage to Dalton has been two years. Are you okay while I was gone?" Angie checked on Edward's condition.

"As you can see, I'm fine. Especially after hearing about Dalton's work! Your husband really made me proud. Soon, I'll entrust the company entirely to Dalton!"

The deep-voiced man laughed; he also hugged his favorite son-in-law.

"I won't disappoint you, Dad!" Dalton replied proudly.

"Laura, she didn't disturb your honeymoon, did she?"

Edward didn't see the woman he had just mentioned getting out of the car.

"Of course not, she's my best friend, and she kept me company while Dalton was working. Right, honey?" Angie looked at her husband.

Dalton just smiled, but he didn't dare look at his father-in-law.

"Thank goodness, because you shouldn't have brought Laura with you. For tomorrow's event, I've booked a hotel for you!"

To make his only daughter happy, Edward would do anything.

"Dad doesn't need to do that because I already have my own plans for tomorrow's event!"

The event Angie had been waiting for finally arrived.

The party she planned was so luxurious, inviting many guests, like redoing her wedding.

Angie looked stunning in a beautiful dress.

So did Dalton, handsome in his tuxedo.

But the couple couldn't focus on their own event. They had been busy looking around, searching for someone who hadn't appeared yet.

Angie couldn't wait to see Laura wearing the dress she gave her.

Meanwhile, Dalton missed Laura very much.

"Why hasn't the event started yet? Who else are you waiting for?" Edward asked Angie.

"Just a moment, Dad! Laura hasn't arrived. I'll call her!" Angie said as she took out her phone.

"Don't bother! She's not important, so let's just start the event!" Edward said disapprovingly.

Angie looked sad; how could she miss this special event without her best friend?

"Honey, let me try to contact Laura so Dad won't suspect anything. You can't cry; don't let this become a topic of conversation among the guests!"

Dalton took the opportunity.

He didn't need to lie because he was calling Laura.

"Thank you, honey!" Angie agreed.

While Angie followed her father, Dalton immediately contacted Laura.

"Why didn't you come? Angie is sad waiting for you!" Dalton asked as soon as Laura answered the call.

"I can't come; it seems Angie wants to embarrass me!" Laura explained on the other end of the phone.

"What do you mean? Angie clearly waited for you until she didn't want to start the event!" Dalton didn't understand what Laura meant.

"The dress Angie gave..."

The sound of fireworks diverted Dalton's attention.

A surprise Angie made for her husband.

Dalton hung up because he had to go to Angie immediately.

"Honey, this is beautiful!" Dalton said in admiration.

The man hugged his wife and kissed her tenderly.

"I love you so much, and I hope you feel the same. Never let anyone else sneak into your heart, because only I should be there!"

Dalton was silent; he felt like he was slapped by Angie's words.

But that didn't make him forget Laura. Dalton even felt guilty for having hung up the phone unilaterally.

"Of course, I love you too!" Dalton replied, kissing Angie's forehead.

Dalton took a jewelry box from his jacket. He took a necklace from it and then put it around Angie's neck.

The woman looked even more radiant with the diamond necklace around her neck.

"This is so beautiful!" Angie's eyes were wet with happiness.

"I also bought one for your best friend!" Dalton whispered so that the guests wouldn't hear him.

Angie smiled wider. "Laura will look so beautiful wearing it! After the party, let's visit her at her house!"

Angie's invitation was warmly welcomed by Dalton.

The man could now ease his longing for his mistress.

All the guests congratulated the seemingly perfect couple.

Edward also didn't stop praising his son-in-law to his colleagues.

After the event, Angie and Dalton left for the hotel Edward had prepared.

For the next two days, Edward wanted his daughter and son-in-law to spend time together.

But unexpectedly, on the way to the hotel, Dalton asked the driver to take him to Laura's house first.

"I even forgot that we were going to see Laura!" Angie commented flatly.

"I just don't want you to keep thinking about Laura because you haven't seen her yet when we're at the hotel. Didn't Dad say we can't even turn on our phones for the next two days?"

Angie nodded. "Yes, honey, we really have to see Laura. We can't be happy while not knowing how she is!"

Dalton knew his plan would work, considering how Angie always cared about Laura.

Upon arriving at the simple house inhabited only by Laura, the couple was greeted by Laura's cold attitude.

"Are you sick? Why didn't you call me?" Angie took her best friend's hand.

"Don't you actually want me?"

Laura's words surprised Angie and Dalton.

"What do you mean? I couldn't even enjoy the party because you weren't there!" Angie was saddened by Laura's harsh words.

"It's true, Laura. Angie kept thinking about you; that's why we came here!"

Laura suddenly went into her room and came back with the gift box Angie had given her.

"Look, your wife didn't intend to give this gift to me. Does she want me to come wearing a dress like that?" Laura started to get emotional.

Dalton took the box and looked inside.

"Oh my God, this dress..."
