Chapter 4 A gift for Laura

"No, I won't do that. I'm a woman too, just like Angie. We should end this now before it's too late. Don't meet me behind Angie's back again!" Laura firmly stated, slamming her bedroom door shut.

"I won't let you go! Let this be our secret. Remember, I'm the one who snatched your crown. Are you really willing to let me go so easily?" Dalton repeated his usual threat.

Laura was stunned by Dalton's words. As the wronged woman, she should have demanded that Dalton take responsibility.

"Let's make sure Angie doesn't find out. I'll continue to act normally around Angie so she won't suspect anything," Dalton continued, trying to reassure her.

In the next room, Angie, having finished shopping, was checking her purchases. She separated the items she bought for Laura.

"Laura will love my choices! We can wear them at the same time. People will think we're twins!" Angie giggled, imagining it.

Leaving her belongings scattered, Angie left the room carrying a box containing Laura's gift. She couldn't wait to give it to her.

"Why, you're here, darling!" Angie exclaimed, finding her husband standing in front of Laura's closed bedroom door.

"Since when did you get back? I thought you were in there with Laura!" Dalton stammered, not expecting Angie to find him there.

"I just got back. Why didn't you knock? Let's give this to Laura!"

Angie knocked enthusiastically on Laura's door. She couldn't wait to see her friend's reaction.

"I told you not to meet me again!" Laura shouted, opening the door. She didn't know it was Angie knocking.

"What's wrong? Who just saw you?" Angie was shocked, her face pale.

"Is someone bothering you, Laura? Let me call hotel security to check it out!" Dalton pretended to be clueless.

"Oh no, I had a bad dream, and it carried over when I heard the knock. By the way, what's in your hand?"

Seeing what Angie was carrying, Laura saw a chance to change the subject.

"It's a gift for you! I even bought the same style for myself. I hope you like it!" Angie handed over the box.

"Thank you! I know your taste, and you never fail! I'll open it later; I suddenly have a stomachache. Excuse me, can I go inside and close the door?"

Laura tried to save herself from a situation that would make her anxious in front of Angie.

"Okay, I'll go back to our room with Dalton. Come on, darling, I bought you something special too!" Angie affectionately clung to Dalton's arm.

The couple left Laura, whispering sweet nothings.

Back in their room, Angie immediately retrieved her gift for Dalton.

"Open it; I'm sure you'll like it!"

Dalton frowned. He couldn't guess what his wife had given him.

"Perfume?" Dalton sprayed a little on his hand.

He immediately fell silent, recognizing the scent.

"You like it, right? The last time I smelled that scent on you, it was the same perfume as Laura's bath soap. I know because I know what soap Laura uses. Next time, tell me if you start liking a new fragrance!"

Dalton panicked, but he was relieved that Angie didn't suspect anything.

"Thank you, darling. A client was wearing that perfume yesterday, and it probably got on my clothes. I do like the scent, even though it's a woman's perfume. I'll use it because you bought it!"

Angie just smiled. She continued to unpack her things.

"So, what did you buy for Laura?" Dalton asked curiously.

"This! I bought her the exact same dress! I'll wear it to our wedding anniversary dinner. And Laura has to come wearing this dress too!"

Dalton smiled. He imagined Laura looking beautiful in the dress his wife bought.

"Your taste is always excellent! You'll look amazing in that dress, darling!" Dalton praised, imagining Laura.

"If only Laura found a man as good as you, darling! I want to see Laura happy and married to a man like you. If only you had a twin, I'd have Laura marry your twin!" Angie laughed.

"You're so funny! I'm going to take a shower; have fun with your fantasies!"

Dalton went into the bathroom.

For the first time, Angie felt a curious urge to check her husband's phone. Throughout their marriage, she had never looked through Dalton's personal belongings. Angie was more curious about Laura's phone, always checking it whenever they met.

She picked up the phone lying on the nightstand. Unfortunately, it was password-protected.

Angie failed to check her husband's phone.

That night, they didn't see Laura again because Angie wanted to spend time with Dalton.

Angie even asked Dalton to wear the perfume she had given him.

"Darling, if we had a child, our happiness would be even more complete!" Angie lamented her inability to conceive.

Although Dalton never brought it up,

"Who says our happiness isn't perfect now? Having a wife like you makes my life perfect, darling!" Dalton stroked Angie's head.

"By the way, how's business? Did you get what Dad asked for? You'll become CEO if you succeed in this business, and Dad's company will eventually be inherited by us!"

"Don't worry; you know my abilities in this business. I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for your father, Angie!"

Dalton was entrusted by his father-in-law to manage the company. In return, Angie always accompanied Dalton on business trips.

That's why Dalton always let Angie spend his money. He thought it was a way to gain the full trust of his wife and father-in-law.

"I know that because my husband is an amazing man!" Angie tried to kiss Dalton.

"Sorry, darling, I'm very tired. Can we sleep now so we're not late for our flight tomorrow morning?" Dalton refused Angie's advances.

"Okay, you can sleep! I'll sleep after I go to the toilet!"

With a sense of disappointment, Angie went to the toilet.

Meanwhile, Dalton actually slept without paying attention to Angie's feelings.

"Sleep well, Laura; I'll dream of you!"
