Davina's POV
Indeed the moon goddess doesn't care about me.
Instead of mating me to someone else, she mated me to Alpha Malcom, Alpha Lumen's son, my enemy.
It was sickening and no matter the direction I looked at it from, I lost my head but the kind words of Malcolm always nullified it.
This went on for a while and I could literally feel myself floating in space as my head felt heavy.
Resting against the wall, I grabbed my head with both hands as I slid through the wall to the floor.
"I will have to live with the thought of Alpha Malcolm as my mate only since no one would be in support of our mating ceremony."
Lyra!
She is going to kill me if she finds out I was mated to Alpha Malcom.
Since childhood, she had been made to believe that she is going to be the next Luna and hence, she became so proud.
Mother didn't help matters a bit as she encouraged every single thing which she did.
You are the Luna, everyone should be under your feet - this was mother's favorite words to her each time father chided her for acting out of bounds.
Father was the only one who told Lyra the truth about her attitude and also the only one who was interested in my welfare but sadly, he was no more.
The day he died, hell was let loose as I knew what was going to be my fate.
Mother and Lyra already hated me but they had to pretend like that wasn't the case because of father but ever since his death, they didn't cease to remind me of it each day.
Pulling my legs to my face, I allowed a smile to spread across my lips as I remembered the kiss he had planted on my forehead.
"He loves me." My smile got even more broad with each passing minute and so my cheeks began to hurt but that wasn't enough to wipe off the smile on my face.
"You will be fine." A voice said to me and at once I began to look around but no one was around.
Falling back on my behind, I wrapped my hand tightly around my legs, shutting my eyes tightly as I reminisced about the brief encounter with Malcolm.
My day dream was interrupted when someone hit my head with a heavy object and at once I rose.
Immediately I realized it was the head of the royal maids, Ms. Finley as we always called her, I fell on my knees with my head bent.
"Are you supposed to be lazing about?" She yelled, her voice filled with disdain.
Immediately, I used sign language to inform her
I had already finished the chores assigned to me but she wouldn't listen.
She was about to hit me across the face when a maid stepped in with a material which was burnt beyond recognition.
"The royal fabric we had been searching for was found among her belongings." The girl said and immediately, my heart fell into my stomach with a thud.
Darting my eyes around, I parted my lips in a frantic attempt to speak but I needed Io making up sounds that enraged Ms. Finley even more.
Grabbing my dress, she ripped it off me, leaving me bare. She didn't stop there, she began to hit me, intensifying the force with each minute.
By the time she had exhausted all of her energy, I was bleeding all over as my whole body ached. "You should be thrown out of the palace before you cause more havoc." She spat in fury and after one last hit with the wood she had been using to beat me, she stomped off.
Laughing at the end of the room with her hands folded across her chest was the maid who had falsely accused me.
"Hey! I understand how you feel okay." She said the moment we locked our gaze. "Feel?" I gulped down the lump that had risen in my throat. Clenching my fist, I began to imagine myself hitting her the same way Ms. Finley had done but the scene died in my head.
"You should be used to all these by now. You are nothing but a scapegoat and that should remain glued in your memory." She let out a loud laugh.
It was at this moment another maid joined her and after telling her what had ensued, they both began to laugh like the situation was funny. The more I stared at them, the more furious I became that I was dying to hit them.
"Gina, I'm scared." The first maid said, wrapping her hands around herself as she shivered.
"Look at her gaze, it seems she wants to gobble us up, let's leave." She said, pulling her friend out only for them to return barely a minute later.
"You stink!" One spat out, hitting me across my face.
"If I were you, I would have run away, being a rogue is better than being a maid in the palace where no one has regards for you." The other said, rolling her eyes.
A while later, she tossed a shabby dress my way, "You saved me from being beaten so it's my duty to get you new clothes."
Without thinking, I threw the dress on so she wouldn't take it from me.
Making signs, I thanked her but instead of saying a word to me, she hissed and she walked out with her friend.
To prevent a recurrence or the beating I had received, I staggered out of the laundry room. All through my walk home, the looks I was receiving from the pack members made me wish that I was invisible but that never happened.
With my head bent to the ground, I continued my walk until I got home.
Pushing the door in, I stepped inside the living room, halting mother and Lyra's discussion.
"You fool!" Mother yelled.
