Chapter 7 Who was that

That was weird. But it seems helpful.

She rushed to the door, rested her chin on it for a few seconds and turned to look at me.

"What do you think? " She whispered.

My gaze narrowed. "Is someone out? " I whispered back.

She shrugged and walked back to me.

There was something about the way she looked at me, always happy, and now, I just couldn't get why I didn't feel comfortable, but I had no choice.

"Werewolves have good hearing. They can even hear your heartbeat if they want, but... " She paused as she moved closer to say the last part.

It was the same whispers, but she said it as if she didn't even want me to hear.

"... I can help you go out today. Just to look around at my favourite spot," She wiggled her brows.

I was excited and wasn't having any of it. She was making it all seem easy while Derek had me locked in for three days. If they can hear my heartbeat, won't he know when I'm missing? Or is this part of a test?

I folded my arms across my chest and stared blankly. What if Alice is evil? What if she is sent by Rex or someone?

She had been so nice, too nice. What if she has something she is hiding, like her past or something about me?

My instincts don't want me to trust her, but I want to see it out too badly.

"It's almost midnight. Alpha Derek doesn't come to his chambers till past midnight, and the guards would be busy wolfing out," She said with a questionable look on her face.

There was silence, just us staring at each other, while I hoped she wouldn't say it.

"Are you scared of me?" She asked.

I moved a few steps backwards and chuckled. I wasn't afraid, I was just worried about what she was up to and why it was hard for me to trust her.

"I trust you, Alice", I said with a forced smile "You are technically the only hope I have here and if you want... "

She noisily cleared her throat. Her gaze was filled with anger for a split second, but she quickly smiled.

"I believe you" " she said as she walked to the bed to take the duvet "You know, werewolves can tell when you are lying, so I believe you now"

seriously?

She believes me?

I tried to feel bad for lying to her, but I could not get myself to feel anything. It was as if I were almost void and boiling inside.

The tips of my fingers itch, and I want to do something, but I don't know what to do.

Soon, I was following close behind her as we sneaked past absent-minded guards, half-naked people and... Wow.

"Lots of wolves", I gasped.

Alice hushed me before I could talk more.

I waited, impatiently till we got to a really dark side of the forest. The wind was extra cold there, it was deadly silent and dark. It gave the void feeling in me hope and flight.

I had to feel my way till Alice led me to a place to sit, covered me up with the duvet and began to undress. I tried not to look, but I did look a bit, and that got a giggle from her.

She sounds so good. Why don't I like her? I wonder.

"Those wolves you see are some of us. I want to show you my wolf," Alice said proudly.

I smiled and nodded.

She stooped, looked me dead in the eye and began to groan. Her bones snapped, like they keep breaking, and soon, I saw a wolf in front of me.

Slowly, I backed away but it came, oh, it was Alice.

Her wolf seems good. It was dark, and all I could see was a little of her wolf and her golden-yellow eyes. She came to sniff me and let me pet her before suddenly running into the dark to seek more freedom.

She left me. I didn't know how to feel, but I wasn't scared.

I just let the cold wind kiss my skin, and the fresh breath was something I would never be grateful to Alice for.

"Not bad after all" I said to myself as I tried to relax.

It didn't take long for me to notice movements from behind me and I knew she was back. What I didn't care about was why she came back from the opposite direction she left from, but she was ready to go back.

I got up, playfully stretched and walked towards her direction.

It's I can't escape now, that doesn't mean I need to die in these woods. Derek would not give a hoot.

"That's odd, Alice. I was expecting you from the other side " I froze as I got close enough.

That wasn't Alice.

It was dark, I knew it was dark, but with Alice, I could see a bit. I could see the half moon and the stars making a dull formation of what she looked like as a wolf, but this, this was pitch black.

It was like darkness itself, and all I could get were its piercing red eyes.

"You..you can't hurt me. I...I am under the protection of Alpha Derek," I muttered in the verge of tears.

I was scared to the bones, but that doesn't mean I have to be eaten alive by a demon-looking beast.

I could feel it getting close. It's warmth, it's aura, it's sharp claws slightly poking my neck as it held my face.

It was different. It was like a crossbreed between a human and a werewolf. The other wolves I saw were on their fours like normal wolves, but this one was different. It was huge, its height towered over me, and I wouldn't even get a chance to go down with a fight.

"Please, I don't want to die" I cried.

I closed my eyes, expecting death. I shouldn't have followed Alice; I should have obeyed my instincts and gone back. I should have known that she brought me here to be killed by this beast.

Strange.

It didn't attack me, it sniffed me.

Someone else did that the first day he met me.

"Derek?" I asked.

It groaned, more like a deep chuckle. It was like it wanted to let me find out for myself.

"... Elena! Elena... " I heard Alice calling.

I turned back to see her running towards me in her human form. She seemed panicked and pulled my arm, leading me out. I turned around, trying to see if I would get a glimpse of the monster, but I saw nothing. It was gone.

"The Alpha announced a search party for you. Please tell him it was your idea to go out so he won't kill me," Alice begged.

She didn't stop, she really was scared, and that left me wondering,

'Who was that? '
