Chapter 6 He called

Raina started the day with her head down the toilet for about half an hour. Groaning loudly, she walked over to the sink and grabbed her toothbrush.

"Aren't pregnant women supposed to be glowing?" She asked herself, feeling disgusted as she stared into the mirror and hissed. Her eye bags were prominent due to lack of sleep and her skin was a lot paler than usual.

She strolled into the kitchen where Emily was busy making pancakes.

"Want some?" Emily asked as soon as he spotted Raina.

"I just want coffee," Raina replied, walking straight to the cabinet to grab the coffee can.

"Erm... no coffee, I threw the last one out," Emily said, smirking.

"Why?!" Raina yelled.

"It's bad for the baby Rain, granny told me," Emily replied as he poured another batter of pancake into the pan.

"You have got to be kidding me," Raina muttered and took her seat at the dinner.

"Nope." Emily replied, served Raina and herself some pancakes and sat next to her.

"So what is his name?" Emily asked, pointing to Raina's belly, as soon as she finished devouring her food.

Raina froze slightly, she has been avoiding any question about her baby daddy ever since she found out a week ago, it's not like she knows anything about him.

"I think his name is Adam, I can't really remember his last name. I was too drunk," she replied, quickly lowering her head out of embarrassment.

"Can you remember anything else to help us find him?" Emily asked again.

"Erm... I think he told me he was moving to another country, something like that." Raina shattered.

"I think we should go to the bar and ask around about him, just his phone number will do," Emily said as she cleared the dishes.

"Erm.. I... don't want to find him," Raina said, shifting uncomfortably on her seat.

"Is that supposed to be a joke?" Emily asked, shocked.

"I don't think any man will accept a woman being pregnant for him after a one night stand, what if he thinks I'm a gold digger?" Raina replied pitifully.

"But..." Emily was about to speak. "Just leave it, I will be fine" Raina quickly interrupt before dashing out of the dinning

***********

Raina had just finished her lectures for the day and was catching up with a few of her friends when her phone beeped.

"Meet me at the bar by 7pm," Raina groaned as soon as she read the message. She threw her phone into her bag and zip it. Without paying much attention to her surroundings she bumped into someone.

A pair of hands shot out to keep her from falling. "Careful," a male voice muttered.

She recognised the voice and quickly looked up and pulled back immediately she saw who it was.

"Hi," the male voice said, smiling. She started to work away without replying. "Rain, please wait." The man said, grabbing her wrist. She spun around and looked into his dark blue eyes.

"What is it?" she asked, almost yelling. "I miss you," he whispered, making her heart tighten a little but she ignored it.

"See Luke, I don't have time for this, I have to go," she replied and attempted to leave again.

"Rain, Please. I made a mistake, a stupid mistake, I promise you it was not my fault. Give me another chance." He pleaded, his eyes burning into hers.

There was no way she could agree to get back with him, even if she still has feelings for him, she was already carrying another man's child. Luke hated the idea of having kids, he wouldn't be able to look after his own not to talk of someone else's.

"No, it's over." She told him truthfully in a stern voice, looking away from him immediately to hide the tears forming at the corner of her eyes.

His face crumpled, "I can fix this, I will do anything, Raina please," he pleaded.

She yanked his hands off and ran out of the building, straight to the parking lot.

She got into her car and burst into tears. After crying for about sixteen minutes, she wiped her tears and drove out of the school parking lot toward the bar to meet with Emily, who was waiting and blowing up her phone with text messages and calls.

"I told you I don't want to do this," Raina yelled as she got down from the car.

Emily placed her hands on Raina's shoulders and said "I won't allow you to treat yourself or your baby like this, the man deserves to know, and he does not seem like a bad person considering the amount he left before disappearing."

Raina rolled her eyes. "Fine, let's get this over with, I'm not sure it's going to work anyways." She said as they made their way into the bar.

"What wrong you look like you have been crying" Emily said as they took their seats. "It's nothing," Raina replied sadly. "Really, are we lying to each other now?" Emily asked, lowering her face to look into raina eyeball.

"I ran into luck" Raina replied as little tears managed to fall from her eyes.

Emily looked at her sister sympathetically and only patted her back without saying a word, they scanned around for the bartender that served Raina and Adam.

Lucky, the bartender that attended to them was present and serving."Hello, welcome to Fun garden bar, what can I get for you?" The bartender said with a forceful smile.

"Erm... I am not here to drink sorry, I need your help," Raina stuttered, and glanced at Emily.

"Okay, how may I help you?" He asked. "I was here a few weeks ago, I was sitting on this stool with a man," Raina explained, lifting the stool a little, while the bartender tried to listen amidst the noise.

"Do you have any information about him please?" she asked.

"I'm sorry I have a lot of customers I attend to on a daily basis, I can't really remember, but if you can just tell me your name and his I will ask from my coworkers." He replied politely.

"Ohh okay, thank you. I am Raina Martins and his name is Adam, I can ...." Raina was still talking when the man interrupted sharply.

"Raina? A man came asking for you a few days ago, he dropped his number in case you show up, I will be right back," the bartender said before leaving in a hurry.

"I told you it was going to work," Emily said, beaming with joy.

The bartender arrived a few minutes later, he stretched a piece of paper with a number written on it to Raina.

"Here, he said to tell you from Mr. Nash," the man said before leaving to attend to other customers.Raina collected the paper with shaky hands.

"Thank you," she muttered, before Emily dragged her out of the bar.

"Call him," Emily said immediately as they got into the car but Raina ignored and drove home in silence, even though tension inside the car could be felt.

They walked into the house holding hands. "Do you want to talk first?" Emily asked, as they took off their jackets.

Raina shook her head while Emily mouthed okay before going to the sitting room. Raina headed straight into the bedroom, tossed her bag on the floor and walked into the bathroom.

After a quick shower, she felt more relieved, she put on her pajamas and strolled into the living room.

"Are you feeling better?" Emily asked, as she handed a plate of pasta to Raina, giving her a small smile.

"Yes," Raina replied, and managed to return a small smile. She brought out her phone, showing Emily the missed calls from Luke.

"He keeps calling and texting, I don't know what to do, I can't deal with him now especially with everything going on." Emily said and let out a sigh.

"Leave it, he will stop once he notices you are serious, nobody asked him to be a cheat." Emily said and hissed.

They started to scoff down the pasta. After eating, Emily brought out the piece of paper and gave it to Raina.

She took her time to stare at the paper, her finger traced the paper as her mind became a mess of thought, her heart sped up, she didn't want to do it, this was the part she had been avoiding since she found out she was pregnant.

"Call him." Emily's voice interrupted her thought, she looked up, "now?" she asked, before her eyes drifted back to the paper she was holding. Hoping to hear a no from Emily.

"Yes, now." Emily replied, passing her phone and gave her a nod of encouragement.

Breathing heavily, she unlocked her phone and went to the keypad, she typed in the numbers and exhaled sharply before she clicked on the call button.

Her heart began to pound rapidly as the call connected and began to ring. Her nervousness was increasing by the second. She waited anxiously for him to pick up and after several rings it went to voicemail.

"It went to voicemail," She mumbled as the woman's voice on the automated answering system spoke.

"Leave a massage!" Emily yelled just as she was about to end the call.

Raina placed the phone to her ear again and it beeped. "Er, erm... hello." She spluttered not knowing what to say.

"It's Raina, we met about a month ago at Fun Garden." She stopped and looked at Emily in panic who gestured with her hand to carry on.

"I was really hoping we could meet and talk about something very important, so please call me back, Bye!" she hung up quickly and let out a sigh of relief running her hands through her hair.

"Oh God." She said as she placed her head on Emily's lap and closed her eyes.
