Chapter 2 In My Parents' Name

"What did you say? I'll give you another opportunity. Give Kaiden the house, and I'll pretend I didn't hear anything!" Lydia waved the house purchase contract furiously.

"Let me make myself perfectly clear in case you didn't catch it. I am not getting married!" Conor stood up, his full height casting a shadow across the room, his voice steady and unyielding.

"You..." Lydia opened her mouth to respond, but paused, taken aback by Conor's formidable presence.

Regaining her composure, Lydia proposed a different approach. "Conor, let's find a middle ground. We draft a guarantee that Kaiden uses the house for only twenty years, after which it reverts to you. What do you think?"

"Mom!" Kaiden let out a high-pitched yell at the suggestion.

He had been fantasizing about getting a big house located at the city center without spending a dime, tying the knot, and settling into a perfect life without a worry.

It was supposed to be forever, not just twenty years!

Lydia shot Kaiden a sharp glance that immediately quieted him.

Twenty years?

Did Lydia actually believe he would let someone else stay in the house he bought for twenty years?

How shameless!

Conor gave a chilling laugh and stared at Lydia with a calm, distant look. "Ha! I don't think you heard me clearly. I said I'm not getting married!"

"What are you saying? Not getting married? Do you have any idea how many rich men are waiting for a chance with Madisyn? You must've stumbled into the biggest stroke of luck to even be considered!" Lydia, furious, jabbed her finger toward Conor's face and shouted furiously.

"Slap!"

Conor knocked Lydia's hand away, his gaze cold and sharp.

"Keep your fingers to yourself! I won't marry Madisyn. Yes, I've been with her for three years, but that doesn't mean I must marry her. If you think I don't deserve her and that she can have a better choice, be my guest! And your useless son, who does nothing but game all day without working, expects me to buy him a house? Ridiculous!"

Conor spat disdainfully on the floor and violently ripped the contract apart.

"Who the hell are you calling useless?! I will kill you!" Kaiden shouted, fury overtaking him as he charged at Conor.

"Thud!"

Conor effortlessly deflected Kaiden's attack with a swift kick.

"I'm talking about you, you useless bastard! You've been unemployed all this time, and I've handed you tens of thousands in spending money over the years! You worthless idiot, what exactly do you have to brag about?"

A chime sounded. "Congratulations, you have chosen option three, receiving a tenfold cash return."

A grin spread across Conor's face as he heard the system's prompt.

"Conor, you've completely lost it!" Madisyn screamed, rushing to Kaiden's aid.

"Indeed, I have! Driven to madness by your freeloading and greedy family! You want me to buy this house for you? Dream on!"

Conor looked over at the speechless real estate agent. "Bring me a new contract. I'm buying this house!"

"What? Buy... this house?" Snapped out of his daze, the real estate agent rushed to the office and returned with a fresh contract in hand.

The agents themselves thought the family's demands were unreasonable.

Considering the buyer was paying in full with his own money, why should the property be in his girlfriend's brother's name? If the marriage fell through, he'd lose both the house and his investment.

"Absolutely, I'll buy it."

Conor thumped his bank card down on the table decisively.

"The total is four hundred and forty thousand, all paid upfront!"

Lydia, mistaking Conor's intention to purchase as a change of heart, hastily suggested, "Just put both your and Madisyn's names on the deed."

Ha-ha!

Was she still trying to manipulate the situation?

They hadn't contributed financially yet expected to own half of the property!

"I'll put on the deed whoever I choose! Stay out of it, you old bat!" Conor blurted out, banging on the table.

"You! How dare you..."

Lydia's expression turned ashen, and she suddenly grasped her chest, collapsing.

"Mom!"

"Lydia! Lydia!"

"Quick, someone get a car!"

As Lydia lay unconscious, Madisyn dashed outside to flag down a taxi.

"Conor, see what you've done!" Madisyn shot him a sharp glare before stepping into the car and storming off.

"This family has no shame at all!"

"Indeed, his family isn't wealthy, yet they demand he buy a house for her brother."

"They're essentially trading their daughter for financial security."

Once Madisyn and her family had gone, bystanders started murmuring among themselves.

"Sir... are you going ahead with the purchase?" the real estate agent asked cautiously, holding Conor's bank card.

Even if Conor decided to take back his bank card now, nobody would judge him after what had transpired.

Anyone in his shoes might have reacted similarly under such pressure.

"I've been on the hunt for the perfect house for a while, and it's not that easy to find a house at the city center at such a price. Yes, I'm buying this one, but it will be in my parents' name," Conor said with resolve.

"Very well!"

A distinguished man in a suit came forward slowly. "You seem like a devoted son, and I'd like to get to know you better."

"Who might you be?" Conor asked, eyeing the man curiously.

"I just heard that your current job is tiring, and the salary isn't generous. If you're looking for opportunities, our company could use someone like you."

Erick Johnson then handed Conor a business card.

"Erick Johnson, Chasey Auto Mall," Conor murmured under his breath, eyes fixed on the name printed across the card.

A customer nearby overheard and shouted with excitement, "That's Erick Johnson, the CEO of Chasey Auto Mall!"

"Oh my God, I heard he owns numerous sports car clubs!"

"Yeah, it looks like this young man just got very lucky. With Mr. Johnson's backing, he's set for success."

Shortly afterward, the real estate agent came back with the finalized contract.

"Mr. Sanderson, please confirm your payment," the real estate agent said, offering him the card reader.

As Conor typed in his password, a familiar chime rang out.

"Ding! Congratulations to the host for completing the purchase, unlocking a tenfold cashback reward! The property cost four hundred and forty thousand, resulting in a four million and four hundred thousand cashback!"
