Chapter 4 We are getting married

"Wh_what are you doing here?" I stood up from the bed. My legs went weak, almost making me slump. The nurse quickly rushed to me, her hand wrapping around my shoulder.

"You were about to abort my baby?" Elijah growled, the anger written clearly on his face.

"I_ I wasn't... I was about..." I didn't know why I was stuttering, but I couldn't just find the right words to say.

"Pick up your bag. We're leaving," he said, before leaving me in the room to dress up.

I walked out of the exam room, my eyes scanning the reception area. I saw him standing close to the door, his hands in his pockets. He looked angry but yet handsome...just like he did that night. I walked over to him, my head cleared.

"How did you know I was here?" I asked, my eyes struggled to look at his dark ones.

"That's not the issue. You're not getting rid of this pregnancy," he glared at him, his voice cold.

I hated how he talked to me, I hated how he looked at me...like that night meant nothing to him. Did he not get haunted by the memory of me screaming his name in pleasure at him like I did? Or did his skin not burn for my touch or yearn for my love ...because I did.

"You have no right to tell me what to do with this baby, Elijah. I will do whatever I choose, and you won't stand in my way."

His eyes burned with intense anger, but I didn't let it deter me. I wouldn't let him control me like a fu**ing puppet.

He strolled towards me, "You move one step towards that room and I swear you'll regret the day you came into this world." His nose flared. Why was he so angry?

"I_ I'm getting an abortion," I blurted. I could already feel my resolve slipping away. He has to be dominant about everything, doesn't he?

"No you're not!" he spat back.

"Why are you suddenly against it?! Weren't you the one who sent your wh*re to throw me out of your office? You didn't even give me a chance to speak to you. You fu**ing left like I was just another wh*re under your rug, Elijah," I seethed, my own anger coming to the surface. "You fu**ing left me alone when I needed you!"

"I didn't push you out. I told her to bring you in, but you were too blinded by your own jealousy to notice that she was lying to you," he argued back.

I wanted to break something so badly. How did he even know all this?

"You're not getting rid of this child, Maya. We're keeping the baby"

"I_ I can't do that. I'm not capable of being a mother to this child alone, Elijah." I said.

"Who said you would be alone?" He said, staring at mine intensely. I knew he could feel it...that tension. But it was more than just sexual tension this time.

"What do you mean?" I said, my voice as low as a whisper.

"You're getting married to me."

"What?"

"Yes. I won't let you take care of the child alone. We will bring him up together, you and I as a couple," he assured me.

"Just like that?" I asked in shock.

"Yes," he confirmed.

"But I don't even know you. You don't know me either!" I said. My heart beat wildly against my chest.

"We can get to know each other after marriage,"

"I don't know, Elijah. Getting married is a big step...even for us," I said. I mean, it was just a one-night stand three weeks ago, yesterday I found out I was pregnant with his child. Now he wants to get married. "I don't think we're ready for that," I continued.

His expression turned serious immediately. "We don't have a choice. We have to get married for the sake of the child," he said.

Suddenly I felt frustrated. He wasn't even listening to me. "This is not fair. You can't just dictate to me!" I yelled.

"I'm not dictating. I'm only protecting you. You need protection, don't you?"

I felt a jolt of surprise take over me. "How do you know I need protection? What are you talking about?"

His expression turned grim immediately, " I have my ways of finding out things, Maya. You didn't think I would just offer you a marriage without knowing who you truly are," he gave me a look.

I backed away from him. The way he looked at me suggested he knew more than what I thought he knew. A wave of skepticism washed over me.

"Who are you, Elijah?" I asked him, fear immediately washed over me. Was he part of the men that burst into my house and pointed a gun at my head. He didn't look like any of them. I would have recognized him.

Maybe he was their leader?

"You don't have to be scared. I know what you're thinking. I'm not one of them," he said, his gaze softened.

"Then who are you?" I asked, the fear evident in my voice.

"You just have to trust me, Maya. I'm at your side," he said in a soothing voice, but I couldn't fall for it. I wouldn't fall for him. But when I looked at him, I could see the sincerity in his eyes.

"No, no, I can't believe you. I don't trust you."

He came closer, his hands quickly grabbing my arms. "Hey! Look at me!" I didn't. I continued to struggle to be free from him. They were here. They had finally found me.

"Maya!" he shouted, his voice finally bringing me back to my senses. I looked up at him, my vision blurred by tears. "You're safe here. I promise I'm not one of them. I won't let anyone get their hands on you, okay?" He said, his eyes telling me he was waiting for my answer

"Y_yes," I answered.

"You're mine alone." he looked at me again.

"Yes," I answered more boldly this time. I had wanted to be his from the first day he touched me.

"We're getting married...today," his eyes watched mine, not asking for validation, but he wanted his instructions to be clear.

"Okay."

We walked out of the hospital, hand in hand. I looked up at him, a look of admiration spread across my face. Maybe Elijah was my prince charming.

Suddenly, his phone went off, revealing the caller ID. The wallpaper on his phone made me suddenly stop.

Lizzy. I could recognize her face any time. I looked up at him, but he was already looking down at me, a worried look on his face.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

I looked down at his phone, but the picture was no longer there. It has been replaced by a graphic wallpaper.

It couldn't be. Lizzy was dead. I could not keep allowing her to affect me even after her death. Elijah has nothing to do with Lizzy Volkov.
