Chapter 40 Forever Yours

Chapter 41 Epilogue: The Life We Chose

/ 1

Eleanor sat by the window in her bedroom, staring out at the endless horizon beyond the Sinclair estate's iron gates. The idea of escape had always been a dangerous fantasy-one she dared not entertain for too long. But now, for the first time, it wasn't just a dream.
It was a possibility.
And that terrified her.
The Weight of Fear
Logan's words from the garden echoed in her mind. We can bring him down.
It sounded simple when he said it, but she knew better. Richard wasn't just a man-he was a force, a shadow that controlled everything and everyone around him. He didn't tolerate betrayal. He destroyed it.
And if he ever suspected her...
A shiver ran down her spine.
She had seen what happened to people who disappointed Richard Sinclair. He never laid a hand on her in public, but she had overheard whispered conversations, seen the way certain employees disappeared without a trace.
If she ran and failed, he would make sure she regretted it for the rest of her life.
But if she stayed... she would never be free.
A Dangerous Conversation
That night, when the house had fallen into silence, Logan found her in the study, pretending to read.
"We need to talk," he said, keeping his voice low.
Eleanor set her book down, her heart pounding. "Is it safe?"
He gave a small nod. "For now."
She swallowed hard, then met his gaze. "Tell me how."
Logan exhaled, as if relieved she was ready. He pulled out a folded piece of paper and laid it in front of her. It was a carefully drawn layout of the estate.
"I've been watching the security rotations," he explained. "There's a blind spot at the back gate between 2:15 and 2:30 a.m. If we move fast, we can slip out unnoticed."
Eleanor traced a shaky finger over the paper. It was real. A plan. A way out.
"And after?" she whispered.
Logan leaned in, his voice steady. "I have contacts-people who owe me favors. I can get us to a safe house, somewhere Richard won't find you."
Eleanor's breath hitched. She had spent years feeling like a prisoner, trapped in a life she never chose. And now, Logan was offering her something she had long stopped believing in.
A future.
But the fear was still there, clawing at her. "What if he catches us?"
Logan's jaw tightened. "He won't."
She looked into his eyes and saw the promise there-not just of escape, but of protection. Of something deeper, something unspoken.
She wanted to believe in it.
But the cost of failure was too high.
A Fateful Decision
Eleanor took a deep breath, forcing herself to push past the fear. "When?"
Logan's expression didn't change, but she saw the flicker of approval in his eyes.
"Two nights from now."
Her hands trembled, but she nodded. "Okay."
Logan reached across the table, gently covering her hand with his. The warmth of his touch sent a shiver down her spine.
"You're not alone in this," he murmured.
She gripped his hand tightly, letting herself hold on to that truth.
For the first time in years, she wasn't just waiting to survive.
She was ready to fight for her freedom.
