Chapter 7 A Ray of Hope

Eleanor had spent years learning how to survive. How to smile when she wanted to scream, how to stay still when she wanted to run. But for the first time in a long time, she felt something foreign creeping into her chest.

Hope.

And it terrified her.

The Library

It started with small moments. A lingering glance. A whispered conversation. The way Logan would step just a little closer when Richard was around, as if silently reminding her she wasn't alone.

One afternoon, she found herself in the library-her favorite hiding place. The floor-to-ceiling shelves, the scent of old books, the heavy silence-it was one of the few places Richard rarely entered.

She had just settled into a chair with a book when she felt his presence.

"You always come here when you need to breathe," Logan said, leaning against the doorway.

Eleanor blinked in surprise. "You've noticed?"

His lips twitched slightly. "I notice everything."

She wasn't sure why that made warmth spread through her chest.

Logan stepped inside, scanning the shelves. "So, what's your escape today?"

She held up the book. Wuthering Heights.

He smirked. "A tragic love story? Not exactly uplifting."

She tilted her head. "Not all love stories are meant to be happy."

Something flickered in his eyes. "That's a sad way to look at it."

She hesitated before closing the book. "You think love is enough to save someone?"

Logan exhaled, rubbing a hand over his jaw. "No," he admitted. "But the right person can give you a reason to save yourself."

Eleanor stared at him, her heart pounding.

No one had ever said anything like that to her before.

A Silent Promise

As the days passed, Eleanor began to open up in small ways. She told Logan little things about herself-how she loved painting but hadn't picked up a brush in years, how she used to dream of traveling the world.

He listened. Not out of obligation, not because he had to, but because he wanted to.

And that made all the difference.

One evening, as she sat on the terrace, she felt him approach before he spoke.

"I meant what I said," Logan murmured.

She turned to him. "About what?"

"That you're not alone." His gaze was steady, unwavering. "When you're ready, I'll help you."

Eleanor's breath caught. A hundred doubts screamed in her mind, but for the first time, she didn't let them drown her.

Instead, she whispered the words she never thought she'd say.

"I think I want to be free."

Logan nodded, his jaw tightening.

"Then we'll find a way."

It was a promise.

And Eleanor wanted to believe in it.
