Chapter 10 The Kiss That Changed Everything

The weight of Eleanor's decision settled heavily on her shoulders as she stood in front of her vanity, staring at her own reflection. Two nights. That was all the time she had left in this house. The thought filled her with both exhilaration and terror.

Would she really make it out? Or would this end like every other attempt at defying Richard-with pain, regret, and punishment?

A soft knock at the door pulled her from her thoughts.

"It's me," Logan's voice came through the wood.

She hesitated before opening it, and as soon as she did, she could tell something was wrong. His body was tense, his eyes scanning the hallway behind him before he stepped inside and shut the door quietly.

"We have a problem," he said, keeping his voice low.

Eleanor's heart stuttered. "What kind of problem?"

Logan's jaw clenched. "Richard's security detail changed their schedule tonight. They've tightened the rotations." He raked a hand through his hair, frustration rolling off him. "It's like they're expecting something."

A chill ran through her. "Do you think he knows?"

"No." Logan shook his head. "Not yet. But he's getting paranoid." He exhaled sharply. "We might have to move sooner than planned."

Panic flared in Eleanor's chest. "No, we-we can't rush this. If we make a mistake-"

"I won't let him hurt you," Logan cut in, his voice firm.

Eleanor swallowed hard. She believed him. Maybe that was dangerous-trusting someone so completely. But Logan had been her only source of safety in this hell.

And right now, he was the only thing keeping her from falling apart.

The Breaking Point

Eleanor turned away, wrapping her arms around herself. "I don't know if I can do this."

Logan stepped closer. "You can."

She let out a shaky breath. "I'm scared."

"I know." His voice was softer now. "But you don't have to do this alone."

She turned to face him again, her eyes searching his. The way he looked at her-like she was more than just Richard Sinclair's possession, more than just a broken woman-it made her feel something she hadn't in years.

Wanted.

Safe.

Her walls crumbled before she could stop them.

Before she knew what she was doing, she stepped toward him. Logan's breath hitched as she placed a tentative hand on his chest. He didn't pull away.

Instead, his hand came up, brushing a stray lock of hair from her face. His touch was gentle, reverent.

"Eleanor," he murmured, a warning in his voice.

But she didn't stop. Couldn't stop.

"I just..." She swallowed. "I just need to feel something good. Just once."

A muscle ticked in Logan's jaw. "This is dangerous."

"I know."

Still, neither of them moved away.

And then, as if pulled together by an invisible force, their lips met.

The kiss was slow, hesitant-at first. But when Eleanor pressed closer, Logan let out a low groan and deepened it, his hands sliding to her waist, holding her as if she were something precious.

For the first time in years, Eleanor didn't feel like a prisoner.

She felt free.

But freedom came at a cost.

And as Logan pulled back, his forehead resting against hers, they both knew they had just crossed a line they could never uncross.
