After stepping out of the elevator from the hospital's parking lot, Josh and Kate were the first to walk out.
They strolled ahead, chatting casually, like a couple meant to be together.
Meanwhile, I, his wife, followed behind them.
As we passed by Josh's office, one of my father's colleagues happened to come out.
Seeing Josh, he looked a bit surprised.
"Josh, where have you been? David passed away. How could you not come back."
"What?" Josh frowned, disbelief written all over his face.
"David passed away a couple of days ago after unsuccessful resuscitation. It's really a pity. If you had been here, there might have been a chance. After all, you were his most prized student!"
Josh's complexion grew ashen, and he hastened forward to seize me firmly before I had walked too far.
Kate looked flustered and hurried over as well.
"Nora! Why didn't you tell me any of these?"
I laughed bitterly, "Are you sure I didn't tell you?"
I shifted my gaze from him to Kate's face beside him.
Seeing the situation about to be exposed, Kate quickly squeezed out a couple of tears.
She was about to say something, but Josh pulled me to the nearby stairwell.
"Why didn't you inform me? Why didn't you call me to come back for the surgery? Adam just said David could have been saved if I had led the surgery..." Josh questioned me with a face full of sorrow, tears streaming down.
In the past, I might have comforted him, saying that my father's illness was already severe.
Even if he had led the surgery, the chances of survival were slim.
But now, looking at him like this, I felt no sympathy.
Instead, his crying seemed somewhat repulsive to me.
Yet, my tears still fell.
My father's death had always been a deep-seated pain for me.
Today, that pain was unleashed, and my long-suppressed emotions were unleashed.
He kept questioning over and over, "Nora, why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you tell me!"
I wiped the tears from my face, a hint of anger showed on my face.
"I called you long ago. You just didn't pick up."
I sobbed, yet my voice remained firm despite the tears, showing my determination.
Josh looked up at me and said, "How is that possible..."
"When I called you, Kate answered. What, she didn't tell you?"
The long-suppressed feelings and grievances made me strong at this moment.
Anger was evident on my face, and even my voice rose a few notches.
