Chapter 4

Josh had finally returned.

Just as I was about to leave the house, he walked in, dragging his suitcase and talking on the phone.

I looked at his familiar face, feeling no emotional stirrings.

"The project has already started. Kate, our friends, and I are in charge, and soon we'll officially launch the company, " he said, placing his suitcase aside while continuing to talk about work.

I glanced at him with a furrowed brow.

He sure called Kate's name with an overly familiar tone.

"It won't affect my job at the hospital. I'll just be a bit busier, " he continued. "What? You want to join? That's great! We really need an accountant, " Josh said.

He nodded instinctively, looking quite pleased.

After finishing his work call, he hung up.

I avoided his gaze and walked out of the room.

Unexpectedly, he suddenly called out to me, "Nora, are you heading to hospital? Let's go together."

I stood there, momentarily stunned, feeling like I was in a different world.

Although it had only been a few days since I last saw Josh, my father's passing made it feel like an eternity.

Hearing him speak in his usual casual tone, I felt awkward and unsettled.

However, since we hadn't yet discussed the divorce face-to-face, I didn't want things to become too tense between us, which would make it too embarrassing to even speak.

I nodded in agreement.

We got into a car and drove out of the neighborhood, only to encounter Kate on the road.

She was standing by the roadside, and the car stopped beside her.

Josh pulled over in front of her and asked, "What's wrong?"

"My car has suddenly malfunctioned. Josh, would you mind giving me a lift? I've already summoned a tow truck," Kate responded.

Josh agreed without hesitation, not even considering my opinion.

Outside the car, Kate kept her gaze on me, looking slightly apologetic.

"Nora, could you move to the back seat? I get a bit carsick and usually sit in the front with Josh, " she said.

I raised an eyebrow and smiled.

"Usually?"

Her words sounded strange, carrying a hint of passive-aggressiveness.

She really had the nerve to say that.

This time, surprisingly, Josh spoke up, "Kate, just sit in the back. It won't take long and it's inconvenient to switch."

But I countered him directly, "It's fine, you can sit here. It's just a seat."

I smiled and got out of the passenger seat, moving to the back.
