Chapter 4 Part 3

I peeled my eyes open to see white walls around me. The smell of disinfectant wafted through my nostrils, and my vision was slightly blurry, but I could tell where I was.

"You are finally awake," the soothing spring voice of a male said.

I discreetly turned toward the direction of the voice, and lo and behold, it was the blurry sight of the man I never thought I would meet.

Mason Grant, CEO of Grant Conglomerate, Mike's biggest business rival.

He stood up and walked over to the water dispenser, took out a disposable cup, and then turned on the machine. After getting a cup full, he strutted towards me with a sly smile plastered on his handsome face.

"I just used the alarm button and informed the doctors that you are awake. They'll be here soon. In the meantime, have this," he said, stretching the cup of water over to me.

I was shocked to the core. Mason was rumored to be ruthless and completely evil when doing business. He is feared by almost everyone.

Mason wasn't residing in Wealth City years ago. He was studying business management abroad and when he returned to Wealth City two years ago, the Grant Conglomerate that was about to go bankrupt suddenly soared up, leaving behind several other companies as he swallowed a lot of small companies and increased their chains, which made Mike furious and threatened.

But I wasn't expecting him to be so cool without his business-mode self. Sigh. Again, not all rumors should be trusted.

I reached out for the cup, but a sharp pain from my belly interrupted the process.

Ouch! I winced in pain, and he hurried to my side.

"Be careful; you have to rest for a few days before getting discharged. Also, where's your husband? He should be with you at such a critical period. Do you have his cell phone number? I'll give him a call." He asked while staring intently at me.

Wait, I instantly felt something hit me hard. critical period? What does he mean by that?

Just as I was about to open my mouth to ask, the door of the ward pushed open, and a group of medical personnel strutted in.

"Hi, good evening, Mrs..." The doctor dragged his words with raised brows.

I was confused, but I realized he had no idea what my name was. "Olivia Anderson," I said with a small fake smile.

"Oh! Mrs. Olivia, how do you feel right now? Are your visions blurry? Do you feel pain anywhere?"

He asked and then turned to notify a nurse who had already brought out a pen and a record book.

"My visions were blurry earlier when I woke up, but I'm seeing properly now. Also, my stomach hurts whenever I try to move. Doctor, how's my baby doing?" I replied and asked the question that had been bothering me since Mason Grant said something about the critical period.

The doctor stared at me and then at the handsome CEO, who was standing right next to me with his hands stuck in his pants pocket, and then he shook his head.

My heart throbbed as it felt hard to breathe. What does he mean by 'shaking his head?'

"I'm sorry to announce that the baby is no more. It was already a miracle that you survived the incident. If you had been brought here any second later, we would have lost you as well." He said it sorrowfully, and that was it.

My heart seems to have stopped beating. My baby is no more. But why? Why would my baby be no more?

"What are you talking about? My baby was fine just yesterday? He was okay, and why would you say he's no more? How dare you?"

I shrieked, clasping tightly on the sheet while holding onto my tummy despite the pain.

"Ma'am, you have been in a coma for the past four days." A nurse said, and my mind went halt.

"I've been in a coma for the past four days," I asked, feeling dumbfounded and speechless, and she nodded.

Does it mean Mike hasn't contacted me or tried to find me for the past four days? How about Mom and Dad? Why haven't they looked for me? And my baby?

My mind flew back to what happened between Mike and me, and tears streamed down my face. Mike killed my baby. He killed him.

I sobbed, and suddenly it felt difficult to breathe. My asthma attack. I gasped as I tried hard not to think about the pain I had passed through, but I just couldn't.

The ward became chaotic as the doctors and nurses tried to prepare some things needed for my treatment.

It's not like I wanted to live. I don't want to live anymore. Death is the best choice for me. My baby is gone, and I want to go join him in the afterworld.

I could hear the doctors screaming and telling me to think positively, but there was nothing positive to think about.

What's left? Nothing is left. I hate Mike. He killed my baby, and my parents and in-laws didn't even bother to reach out to me.

Whose life could be more pathetic than mine? None? No one could understand what I was going through.

My life's career was to become a successful businesswoman.

A woman who would be looked up to by the younger generations and recognized by the business world. But all those went down the drain when I married Mike.

I had to live under his shadow and accept all his disrespectful, harsh, and hateful words. I had to bear with his insult, thinking that I one day would be able to dive into his heart, but reality hit me hard.

He killed our baby. My baby. He killed me. And doesn't want me to live anymore. I want to die...

"Hang in there." I heard the doctor's words, but I wasn't going to listen.

"Sedate her and perform all her treatments; she looks like the stubborn type and won't listen easily," Mason Grant said as he ordered the doctors.

I was going to yell at him to mind his business and stay away from me when I suddenly felt a sharp object piercing through my arm. And the next thing, I passed out.
