Chapter 8 Eighth Chapter.

As Laura stood in the mirror, admiring her outfit and trying to calm her nerves, she couldn't help but feel like a fish out of water. She'd never imagined herself in a situation like this-marrying a man she barely knew, just to satisfy his mother's desires.

But here she was, putting on a brave face and trying to make the best of it. "At least the dress is pretty," she muttered to herself, smoothing a hand over the fabric.

Carson entered the room then, dressed in a well-tailored suit.

"You look beautiful" Carson said.

"And why didn't you knock before entering? Why are you admiring my beauty like a legal husband is admiring his wife's beauty"

They both laughed hard.

"I hope your mum would like it this way, or do you think there's anything I am to add to my dressing to make it elegant, or to make your mum likes me, probably you know one thing she likes that I can do or you could ask your sister about it"

"Well, you don't need to make yourself uncomfortable just because you want her to like you, common, you are beautiful this way, and it really seems as if your shape...." he continued, "You are beautiful Laura"

"The admiration is too much, don't forget my husband as a lot to admire, so you need to admire a little"

They laugh harder again

Carson chuckled, shaking his head. "I'll try to rein in my admiration, then. But I will admit, you look more than ready to face my mother's scrutiny."

"You are not looking bad neither"

"No need for that, I no I am always cute"

They smiled and both went to the compound. They entered the car, and the driver drove them off.

She was surprised when they got there because the mansion looks so stunning.

As they pulled up to the imposing mansion, Laura couldn't help but let out a small gasp.

"Your parents certainly know how to make an impression," she murmured, trying to keep her nerves in check. The building was a testament to wealth and opulence.

As they stepped out of the car Carson smiled. "Believe me, this is nothing compared to what they're capable of. They're quite the... power couple, shall we say?"

They stepped out of the car, and Carson gestured for Laura to follow him up the steps. "Shall we go in?"

Laura took Carson's arm as they ascended the steps, bracing herself for the encounter. She knew that this was only the beginning of what would likely be a very trying evening.

They went inside, and they met his mother and his sister. She greeted them warmly.

"Mum, this is my fiancee" Carson said.

"Whoa! She's very beauty, what is your name darling"

"I am Laura, mum"

"Oooh! Good then, you are welcome to this big family and you must be special for my child to introduce you as his fiancee"

Laura smiled.

"Mum, I want to see you" Carson's sister said

Carson's mother and his sister went in.

"You can see that your mum loves me?" Laura said .

"I am surprised to, anyone I am glad to see that"

After some minutes, they came in and this time the expression changed. Carson's mother is not smiling any more

"Mum, is the dining ready, can we go and eat"

"I am sorry, probably next time, but we aren't eating with this lady, this lady is not coming to the dining to eat with us, when she excused us, then we can"

Laura's heart sank, as she felt the warmth and hospitality of the moment evaporate. Carson's mother's sudden change in demeanor was like a slap in the face.

Carson, clearly picking up on the tension in the room, placed a reassuring hand on Laura's arm. "Mother, surely you must be joking. Laura is my fiancee, after all."

"I am sorry, you can't marry this girl, I am sorry, this isn't a woman I would allow you to marry, you would marry once, and then marry right, as for this Laura or what do you say your name is, I expected you to respect yourself and leave my house now"

Laura couldn't utter any word, she had to leave the house, she couldn't even stay in the compound to wait for Carson, she had to just go out of the house.

"Mum, but why? Why would you do this to her? Why will you tell her to leave?"

"Don't tell me you want to marry a celebrity, a celebrity who wouldn't be able to take care of you? A celebrity that won't even care about you or what? Common you must be joking son, even if I tell you to bring a wife home, not someone like a celebrity"

"Weldone, I know you are the one, just don't worry weldone" Carson said to her sister, and later face her mother, "Mum, I am in love with Laura and she's not someone like that"

"I don't have much to discuss about her, but what I know is that, as she walked out of this house, she walked out of your heart, she's not someone you can love, do you hear me clearly Carson, do you? I don't even want to hear her name from your mouth again, move on they are other girls who are single there and they are waiting to be loved, go and bring one, not a celebrity"

"Mum, you told me to bring a wife home, and you didn't even tell me anything regarding this, you didn't tell me you do not want a celebrity wife and moreover, I am the one who wants to live with her, I love her mum, Laura is not the person you imagined her to be"

"I hope you heard me clearly, leave that aside, join us in the dining room"

"And to leave her? You know, she left the compound and she's not familiar with this place, I need to go and look for her mum, I will be back".
