Feather opened the chest of memories. Inside was her mom's dress it was a white dress like a dinner dress with slits down the sides. There were tassels on the shoulders. Her mom had worn special moccasins and a shawl hand hewn by her grandmother. She had made a breakfast of a omelette the community always held a gathering for newlyweds. It was hard to believe a week had passed.
Her attire looked good and she went to the town hall. Devon was there waiting. He looked handsome in his work tuxedo. They had grown close. He worked hard and every night he enjoyed a massage from Feather.
The wedding went smoothly and the kiss they shared made her weak in the knees. He had been slightly secretive. But he was also working hard. He had been fighting for better treatment for the tribe. He had shocked everyone by getting approval from electric, water etc.
Devon was amazed at how lovely his bride looked. He had worked hard to get her a house and set it up without her knowing. He had picked out furniture and everything needed. He had bought a prefabricated house but they could add on as needed. He wanted things easier for Feather.
He enjoyed the festivities. Then he walked them to their new home. He had gently tied a silk handkerchief around her eyes. She giggled as he guided her.
"This isn't the way to the house Dev." She said using her nickname for him.
He stopped them both. And removed the handkerchief.
"What in the world?" Spinning around she scooped her up bridal style and carried her through the door.
"Welcome to our new home." She held him tight. This was the best surprise she had ever gotten. She checked everything out and saw fully stocked cupboard, fridge, freezer. The house was fully furnished in a pretty color scheme per room. Their room had a four poster California King size bed with blue bedding. She could never have asked for anything so extravagant.
Their first night was the usual him taking things easy for their first time.
