Chapter 2 A rocky start

Devon Adam's and 4 others waited in the pick up area. He wondered what his shotgun bride looked like and where she lived. Tribal life would be very different from his life so far. He came from a rich family and was loaded himself.

A homely yet stunning woman approached saying she was sent to get them. He then realized this was his wife. She couldn't yet be 20 years old.

She drove them in silence only speaking to say they had arrived. The town wasn't much. There were a few nice homes but mainly throw together cabins. She dropped the others off at a place that held a sign that read lodging.

She parked the car at the town hall.

"Follow me please." She said. He walk behind her to a one room shack.

"This is where you expect me to live. No offense but no one should live here." He said dismayed.

She looked at her feet in embarrassment. "We don't get help others do as we are starting out. We are told we must stay in our own little area. What we build with, eat and use is 75 percent from the land. Personally I try not to even to use items the government permits us. When my parents years ago found out that was the government's plan they killed themselves. My grandparents have raised me since I was 12. I am limited on knowledge but am trained in old ways. This cabin you won't find a single nail only hand crafted pegs. It might get cold in the winter but I have a safety installed river rock fireplace that's for heat and cooking. I hope you have a palate for fish as I haven't been able to set small animal traps yet due to the work I do here." She opened the door.

He took in the small space void of a bed. Along a wall was a built in counter with wooden bins. The fireplace along another wall,

there was a homemade sofa and chair with footstool in front of the fireplace. The other wall was lined with a dresser and a stall used as a dresser. There was a doorway with a simple yet old looking desk and chair.

"Where am I supposed to sleep? What about a fridge and electric? Do you even get cell service? What if I want to call my family?"

She grabbed a hand net off the peg in the wall. "Those are convenient yes but we don't have them now means to. Government won't help with that. Unless you can think of a way to sway them?! As for sleeping you are more than welcome to the couch." She took off to the fishing hole where Snow Eagle was. Together they caught 2 buckets of fish each. A shockingly great haul. Enough for her to give a half bucket to her grand the other half plus a quarter of the other to the store. She would smoke most of the rest and cook 3 for dinner. There had been a nice tree that bore plump apples. She had things to make dough and a stockpile of spices. The grocery store gave her some lettuce and she had some canned tomatoes and a little from the house there was a parch of wild carrots.

When Devon saw her haul he was stunned. "You caught all that without a line?" She was a better fisher than anyone he knew.

He helped prepare the fish and she showed him how to place the fish in the smoker. Despite their little tiff before the night ended nicely.
