Chapter 5 Granny

With tears blinding her face, Esther left the cafe. After walking some distance from the bar, she stopped at the zebra Crossing, looking at the street absentmindedly.

Her life the past days since she had loosed the baby has been harsh and merciless. Life had offered her nothing these days but pain and anguish. She secretly wished, if her baby had lived?

Just a month ago, she had been to his family house an met his parents who had given her baby clothes as gifts. Who knows that was just twisted fantasy that can never come true?.

Betrayed by her husband, and actually impregnated her stepsister, who was way younger than her. Esther felt like her life was ridiculously coming to an end. It was just like a dream that she wished to wake up from as soon as possible.

While contemplating on her messy life, her phone blared from from her phone jolting her back to reality.

"Yes, Esther Brown here, who's speaking?"

She was silent for sometimes, after the caller was done, Esther let out a yell making every passer by wonder what call she had gotten to make her yell that much.

She halted the passing taxi and left hurriedly.

Back from the Lamborghini 2023 model that was following her, the man put a call through to the boss. "She suddenly yelled after getting a call President, what Shall I do next?"

There was silence from the other end of the phone before his voice came through.... "Follow her!"

Esther Brown got out of the taxi in front of the hospital.

Hurrying towards the stairs, she almost fell.

The man that was following in her in the Lamborghini picked up the phone and dialed the boss again.

"I have followed her per your request, President, it appears her family member is admitted to the hospital and she appears very anxious. There are some acquitances in the hospital, would you like to talk to them?"

The President was silent, it was until the driver checked the phone that he realized that President Lucian had hung up.

It was actually the first time that he'll ask her to monitor someone and this time it was a woman!

The woman that came out of President Lucian's room this woman, seems this woman had left a Blueprint on President Lucian's heart before she left.

The phone rang again snapping him back, "Yes President?"

"Go over and take took"

"Yes President!"

In the hospital emergency room, Granny Hazel, my grandmother, was still undergoing emergency treatment. I was asked to wait for more than an hour, each passing minute increasing my despair, until the door finally opened.

The doctors emerged, looking exhausted. I hurriedly walked over and grabbed one of them. "Doctor, how's Granny?"

"Are you her granddaughter?" he asked.

"Yes, Doctor. What happened to her?"

"The patient's vital signs have stabilized. She's out of danger for now," the doctor reassured.

"So, my granny is okay now?"

"Yes, but only for the time being."

"Thank you, Doctor. I really appreciate it. Thank you so much," I said, smiling through my relief as I bowed slightly to the doctor. Then, I rushed towards the general ward where Granny had been transported.

I sat beside her, holding her pale and frail hands, waiting for her to wake up. When she finally opened his eyes, I asked with relief, "Granny, are you fine now? Would you like the doctor to come and check on you?"

"Esther, I am fine," the old Granny replied in a croaky, hoarse voice.

I paused for a moment, overwhelmed with worry. Granny was my only living family. She was heart disease patient, and one day she had suddenly fainted. That was when it was discovered that he had a serious heart problem and needed a heart surgery.

Since then, Granny had been battling heart problems from time to time. My dad, offered no help to his late wife's mother. The only assistance he provided was ensuring the hospital gave me enough time to pay my brother's medical bills without troubling me.

Granny saw my pale face and was very sad. She reached out with a simple smile masking his sadness and patted my hand lovingly. "It's okay, dear. I'll be fine with time."

Hearing this made me want to cry. The meager earnings I got from Wayne were not enough to take care of my frail brother.

"Granny, you..." Before I could finish my sentence, the door of the ward opened and several doctors trooped in.

I stood up, facing them with a questioning look as if to ask what happened.

"We're here to change Granny's room," one of the doctors said politely.

I was surprised. Perhaps dad had found out that I had divorced Wayne. He had been unwilling to help us from the start, but when I married to Gaston, he stopped making a fuss. He knew that my marriage to the Veriland family meant huge business deals for him. Now that we had broken up, there was nothing to look forward to.

I felt sad and frightened, sometimes wondering if he was really our uncle. But I couldn't blame him. Everyone has their own personality.

My greatest fear right now is where to go with her. If I was alone, I can still survive but with Granny?

After packing some of the things Granny brought, the doctor who spoke earlier instructed his subordinates, "Hurry, send Granny to the VIP ward!"

I didn't expect this outcome. My eyes widened in surprise as I stared at the doctor. "VIP? Why?"

"That's what we were instructed to do."

Granny, lying on the bed, was also puzzled. She tugged at my sleeve and whispered, "Esther, what's going on?"

I, too speechless to think straight, replied, "I don't know."

What was really happening? So many surprises in a day. This was too much to handle.
