Chapter 5
I requested the company to change my assistant, but they rejected my request.
There was no other reason than the fact that my reputation online was terrible at the moment. A large number of uninformed internet users flooded the comment sections of the brands I collaborated with, the company, and the official Twitter account, demanding they terminate their contracts with me.
Even though I posted a clarification on Twitter, it was like a drop in the ocean-no one believed me.
I had only been in the entertainment industry for two years, but Blaine had been a child star since his debut. His influence was far greater than mine.
I pleaded with the person in charge, "Melody and I don't get along. I really don't want to work with her. Can you please assign me a different assistant? I'll cover the costs myself if necessary."
Unfortunately, people always pick on the weak. The person in charge frowned and said, "Melody has worked as an assistant for several actresses, and they all got along well. Why can't you?"
"Why don't you look for the problem within yourself?"
"Let me tell you, you've already affected the company. If the company loses money because of you, you can expect to be terminated."
With those words, I didn't dare say anything more.
I shut myself in at home for several days.
During these days, Melody stayed with Blaine's crew.
Rumors about the two of them began to swirl online, and many people came to my comment section asking for my opinion.
I uninstalled Twitter and pulled out my old diving gear from the back of the closet, planning to go diving.
In the past, whenever I felt unhappy, I would go diving.
The ocean could temporarily make me forget my sadness.
But this time, I was so lost in my thoughts that I lost track of how deep I had gone.
By the time I realized it, I was already very deep underwater.
The water around me was pitch black, and I couldn't even see any fish. The visibility was less than half a meter.
I glanced at my dwindling oxygen supply and felt a surge of panic, quickly swimming upwards.
Suddenly, something tugged at my foot, as if something had entangled me.
I assumed it was seaweed and quickly turned around, but in the next moment, I froze.
It was a giant octopus.
From my angle, I could only see its massive tentacles waving wildly.
One tentacle alone was longer than my entire body, probably around two meters.
As my mind went blank and my heart raced, unsure of what to do, I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my leg.
Then, the octopus suddenly squirted a cloud of dark ink.
The little visibility I had vanished instantly, and I couldn't see anything.
But for some reason, I felt incredibly calm at that moment.
At this point, I could only rely on myself. Panicking would only let the octopus control me.
I realized I might have descended into the deep sea, and octopuses are powerful creatures; using force was not an option.
I stayed still and let it wrap around me.
After a while, when the grip on my leg loosened slightly, I suddenly used all my strength to lunge forward.
I managed to shake off the octopus, and it didn't follow.
I didn't know how long it took, but I finally broke through to the surface.
Suddenly, a voice echoed in my mind:
"Congratulations on activating the octopus gene. From now on, you will have nine brains, eight invisible tentacles, and three hearts."
"Good luck."
