Chapter 4
My assistant, Melody, was also a sweet girl. Her voice was pleasant to the ear, and she would call me "Bella, Bella" every day, making me feel overjoyed. I treated her like a close friend, blurring the lines between work and personal life. So, even though she didn't do her job well and often took leave, I didn't mind at all.
Who would have thought that her leaves were actually to meet Blaine?
It felt like someone had hit me over the head with a club. It took me a while to find my voice again.
"Are you two together?"
Blaine's brows knitted together in confusion.
"What nonsense are you talking about? I should be asking you why you arranged for your assistant to be around me all the time. What's your intention?"
I looked at Melody. Her face turned pale with worry, and after a moment, she said to Blaine, "Blaine, you should go back. The director is looking for you."
Blaine glanced at me and left a parting remark, "I'm very busy. Don't come looking for me again."
With that, he walked away.
After he left, Melody took a few steps towards me, a smile on her face.
"Bella, I really had a reason for taking leave. I'll be back to take care of you tomorrow."
I ignored her words and stared at her intently, getting straight to the point. "Do you like Blaine?"
Her eyebrows shot up, clearly not expecting me to be so direct. But since I had already asked, she visibly relaxed and didn't even bother to pretend.
"If you put it that way, Bella, I can't deny it."
I pursed my lips. "I haven't treated you badly, have I? Why would you fall for Blaine when you know he's my boyfriend?"
Melody chuckled.
"Well, you two have broken up now. Bella, be careful with your words, or the paparazzi will catch you, and the online commenters will start cursing you again."
Her provocative words filled me with a burning pain.
"Did you ever consider me a friend?"
At my question, Melody burst into laughter.
"Friend? Hahaha, that's hilarious. Let me laugh for a bit. Hahaha..."
She laughed for a while before her face turned mocking.
"There's no such thing as friends in showbiz. Izabella, you don't fit in this industry."
Her eyes flashed with jealousy. "So what if you're pretty? You're just a clueless idiot."
With that, she turned to leave.
I called after her, my voice shaking with rage. "Melody, I'm going to fire you."
She stopped in her tracks, turned her head, and provocatively said, "Go ahead, try it. Do you dare?"
"Spineless."
