Chapter 7 My consciousness pricked me

Nathaniel was stunned at my suggestion and so was I. How did I summon the boldness to say that to the master of this house, as well as my abductor?

I must've been out of my mind and I continued to lose it as I continued,

"You know, it's not moral for a man and a woman to share a bed when they're not married," I said, trying to rationalize my words.

"We've done far more than just share a bed, Eve. Quit this innocent girl act." He demanded.

'How can I? This is me.' I thought and shook my head. "Al-also, it's not so gentlemanly for a guy to make a girl sleep on the floor while he sleeps in the bed," I said and he palmed his face before saying,

"Then know that I'm not a gentleman."

I stared at him in disbelief. He would go so far? Well, what other options were there?

"Anyway, I can't believe that you simply want us to sleep in the bed. My sister always warned me that men are deceitful creatures. I shouldn't trust their words without reason and I don't have any reason to trust you so I won't."

Nathaniel suddenly barged towards me and I searched high and low for a way to escape his fury but he caught me.

"Stop talking." He said, with a demanding tone, grabbing both my shoulders. "Are you having fun? I am trying my possible best not to lose my shit over you but you keep making it worse by saying these meaningless words."

"But... But I can't trust you." I said in retaliation, failing to see that that was angering Nathaniel even more.

"Fine." He said, "Don't trust me. I'm going to do exactly what you fear and take you right now."

With that, he attempted to rip off the thin layer I was wearing and I screamed,

"Stop it. What are you doing?"

"This is what you secretly desire, isn't it? That's why you're playing so hard and don't want us to just sleep on the bed."

"That's not it. Stop. You're making a mistake here." I said but he was way past the talking level so I used my lethal weapon on him and bit his arm.

But just as I thought, it didn't do much damage but at least he stopped. Nathaniel glared at me and I slowly took my mouth out of his arm.

"Eve, what do you want from me?" He asked and once again, I saw and heard his hurt.

My consciousness pricked me. This man... What was his problem?

He should just accept that Eve was gone and move on. He was still young so there were many opportunities to meet new people. Why was he so hung up on my sister?

What sort of obsession was this?

"Nathaniel," I called and he raised his head to meet my eyes. "Did you love Eve?"

Nathaniel grew silent and stared at me as if judging me for asking my question in third-person formation. Then, he averted his gaze. He was avoiding the question.

I needed an answer. If he really did love Eve, then I would understand why he was so hung up on her. But then he said,

"I don't."

As if I had been the one rejected, my heart felt like it had been pricked. Well, at least his feelings were not that of love.

"Then why can't you let Eve go?" I asked further and he boldly declared,

"Because Eve is mine."

After his body declaration, I said,

"But I'm not Eve."

"You are. I say you are so you are." He yelled, startling me. "You look like her, sound like her, have everything that she has so why are you not her? Why do you want to torture me like this all over again?"

His words made me wonder, what did Eve do?

This man was out of balance with himself. Since he claimed he didn't love Eve, I concluded that he was just completely and totally obsessed with her and sighed.

"You want us to just sleep on the bed, right?" I asked, out of the blue. "You promise not to do anything?"

Nathaniel looked at me and nodded. Wow, he was back to his puppy form. But I could still feel that he had the aura of a predator.

Anyway, it was better to get through this night in peace. Let's humor him a bit and then sneak out to the couch in the dead of the night.

"Alright. I'll..." My words were interrupted by the loud growl of my stomach. It was so embarrassing and my cheeks flushed.

"You haven't eaten dinner?" He asked and I looked at him with glazed eyes. He didn't exactly make arrangements for me to have dinner. All he did was make the maids treat me like a doll while preparing me for him to feast on my body.

"Can I eat now?" I asked and he grabbed my hand, pulled me away from the door, and opened it.

I wondered what he was up to but then he paused, and looked at me, from head to toe. I, who was wearing next to nothing, was very unaware that I was half naked. It was thanks to him though.

"What?" I asked, and he led me back inside his room and said,

"Wait here."

While I stood in a state of confusion, he went into the room he had previously walked out from, which I later found out to be a dressing room.

He got back with another gray robe, similar to his, and handed it to me.

"You can't walk out like that." He said, and I looked at my clothes. I blinked and exclaimed,

"Oh!"

"Put this one. I'll take you to the kitchen to get dinner."

Now, he was acting like a nice gentleman. Was this his original attitude while others were driven by anger or was this just an 'in the moment' sort of thing?

Whichever it was, I was feeling a lot safer.

I wore the robe and followed him, hand in hand, towards the kitchen. Having him lead me like that, I felt something strange inside me. It was the first time I was letting a guy lead me by hand and not my sister.

Was it supposed to be like this?
