Chapter 4 Good, there's no one here

Slowly, I made my way to the room the maids were relentlessly leading me to. My body, my soul, and my mind told me that going to that room would only spell danger for me but I couldn't resist.

I couldn't run away since the maids were extremely weary of me and I honestly couldn't think of running because I didn't know where I was. The halls were long, wide, and dark like some vampire castle and I was being the sacrifice.

'Let's get our heads straight. I plan to negotiate with this guy and get him to believe that I am not Eve and maybe I...' I paused in my thoughts as we stopped in front of a door. '...can get to know what Eve did over the years.'

One of the maids knocked on the door and said,

"Master, we have brought her."

After that, a short silence followed. Then, like she had gotten a response, she turned to me and said,

"You may enter."

I was honestly confused. Was I the only one who didn't hear a response? Why were they acting like they got an order when there was no response?

They opened the door and pushed me in and I looked at them in disbelief. They kept that indifferent expression on all through till they closed the door in my face. I felt angry at the way they treated me but who was I to complain? I was a hostage here.

I sighed and turned to view the room. It was dimly lit but I could see almost clearly. The interior was all black and grey, the same goes for the pillows and the blanket.

"Good, there's no one here," I said, feeling relieved.

I thought I was getting taken to the lion's den but it would seem I had just been transferred to another room.

"But why would they announce to a master if there was supposed to be no one in here?" I asked myself and suddenly flinched. "It's not a ghost, is it?"

My head was being filled with crazy thoughts again and I shook it. There was no such thing as a ghost. I was probably overthinking it.

"When can I negotiate with their master?" I wondered. "But maybe this is a good thing."

I sat on the bed, still feeling uneasy. How were my siblings coping? How was my dad? Did he get into the wheelchair on his own? I hoped he had his dinner.

Come to think of it, I hadn't eaten anything since that morning. I wasn't feeling hungry either, maybe because I was in a situation where I couldn't think of food.

"Growl!"

My eyes widened. My stomach growled like a hungry beast. Who was I deceiving? Food was very important even for someone who was kidnapped. But would they feed me?

Other than that, I was pressed. While those maids bathed me, I wanted to pee but couldn't because I felt ashamed. I couldn't hold it in any longer and decided to use the bathroom in this room.

As someone who couldn't act frightened when in a frightening situation, I found myself gaping at the man I had encountered as soon as I opened the bathroom door.

It was the man from earlier with dripping hair and water beads rolling down from his neck down his impeccable chest and pectoral muscles. He had a towel wrapped around his waist and he looked at me with a certain disdain.

'What are you doing here?' That was the question I wanted to ask but I couldn't move my lips as my eyes trailed from his face to his neck, collarbone, and then his chest, down to his abs.

What was this? Why did he look so fit and amazing and... And... I shook my head. I shouldn't be thinking about my abductor like that.

"Are you done staring?" He asked, startling me and I looked up, back at his face, those eyes which continuously sent shivers down my spine.

Why did this man have such an electrifying presence?

"I... I..." I stuttered. "I must be in the wrong room." I managed to say but then he took a step towards me. I instinctively took a step back and just as I tried to turn away, he grabbed my shoulder and pinned me to the wall.

I was startled. How did he do that so fast and why... Why was he looking at me like that?

They say the desire of a man was like a wild snake, with the intense desire to devour their prey.

I, who was like a mouse in his presence, was the prey.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know this was your room," I said and palmed my face. "Of course, I wouldn't know. The maids were the ones who brought me here."

"Eve," he called my sister's name. "...This is where you should be."

In that pinned position, our eyes met and I could've sworn, he was telling the truth. He was the one who ordered them to take me to that room, the reason why I was in there.

"Of course," I said, suddenly remembering my plan to negotiate with him. "I should be here. We have a lot to talk about. You need to know that I am not Eve and..."

He suddenly smacked the wall behind me with his fists. I instinctively paused my lips.

He looked angry as he stared at me with deadly eyes.

"Again with that?" He asked and I could tell he wasn't ready to believe me. "Eve, I will give you one last chance. Apologize you were wrong and I won't pursue this matter any further. I won't blame you for cheating me, I won't blame you for lying to me. I won't blame you at all and we can go back to how it was so apologize. I'll even return your car. I bought it for you so it should remain yours. It was wrong of me to take it from you."

I was like a confused piece in a newly completed puzzle. An abstract piece, to be precise.

"Eve, just say you're sorry and I'll forgive you. Is it the money you want? I can double the amount I usually give you. If six zeros aren't enough then I can add an extra zero, just apologize and promise you won't do it again. I'll do everything for you. I..." He gritted his teeth. "I will do everything. So please."

The sincerity and hurt in his eyes as he pleaded with me to promise an impossible thing was very heart-wrenching and it made me guilty. I didn't do anything so there was no reason for me to feel guilty but I was.

I didn't know what happened between them and I didn't know why they had this relationship but one thing was for sure.

This man... He liked Eve a lot.

One moment he acted like he would blow a fuse with anger and another, he looked a lot like a lost puppy.

Eve, what... just what did you do to make this man become like this?
