Chapter 6 Shameless

After hearing Nathaniel's words of plea. I was convinced that he was the reason Eve had been able to keep all of us going over the years. He was the reason why she was able to afford that apartment, as well as dad's treatment, Sequence, and Sebastian's education, as well as all other things.

He was the reason she was able to take care of us so well and it seems he liked her a lot. He was sincere towards her.

Those were my assumptions.

The look in his eyes... how would he feel once he finally found out that Eve was dead and I was just her twin sister who resembled her in everything but character and attitude?

I couldn't conceal it but would he believe it?

Or maybe he already knew. Maybe he knew she was dead but couldn't accept it and that was why he was clinging to me so much? It was better to have me around and not give in to the fact that he had lost her forever, huh? An alternative.

I closed my eyes.

'It would seem we weren't the only ones who lost you, Emilia.' I thought, a tear sliding down the corner of my left eye.

"Do you finally admit to it?" He asked me. "Do you finally admit that you were wrong for lying to me and cheating me this whole time?"

I opened my eyes. Whether he knew it or not, I didn't want to live as my sister's alternative. She already did so much to help me and the rest so I had to speak the truth.

"I know what you want to hear," I said. "But I honestly can't give it to you because the person whom you should be hearing it from is dead. I... I am just the sister who looks everything like her."

He stared at me, the hurt in his eyes, gently transforming into that of anger.

"You still want to treat me like a fool even till now? I've promised you everything, what else do you want me to do?"

"Accept that she's gone," I yelled at him, stunning both him and myself. But I couldn't stop there. My emotions were bursting out of their bubble. "It was hard but I accepted it. We all did and though painful, it's the truth. Eve's..."

My voice found its way back into my throat as he stuck his lips to mine. I was struck dumb with disbelief. He kissed me? No, what he was doing wasn't kissing me, it was... I winced in pain as he bit hard on my bottom lip.

I pushed him away and touched my lip. It was bleeding. I looked up at him in disbelief.

"Does this wake you from your delusions?" He asked. "Even if you scream, fake your tears, or even fake your death, I will not believe what you say. I may see it, hear it but as long as you are in front of me, I will believe none of it."

I leaned on the wall. This man was crazy.

Why was he so obsessed with Eve?

They say obsessions can be sweet and fulfilling but when that object, which you obsess over, gets out of your reach, you lose your mind and do everything, no matter what it is, to get it back.

Was this what he was doing? He couldn't accept that Eve was dead because she pulled such a stunt in the past or was he just so obsessed that he refused to believe it?

Thanks to this obsession, he would do anything just to make sure she stayed by his side. Was he crazy or just pitiful?

More importantly, I needed to pee right away so I turned away from him and headed for the bathroom. But he grabbed my arm, stopping me in my tracks and I looked at him, saying,

"Hey, let go. I need to use the bathroom."

"Are you trying to run?" He asked and I shook my head.

"I just need to pee badly. When I'm back, we can continue from where we stopped, okay?" I tried to free my arm but he tightened his grip.

"What are you planning?" He asked.

Seems like he didn't believe I was just going to the bathroom. Well, he wasn't believing anything I was saying so far so this didn't surprise me.

"Where do you think I can run to? You're going to be here when I step out of the bathroom so how exactly will I escape? Just let me go and pee unless you want me to pee in here."

"Shameless." He muttered.

"What? You're not giving me any other options here." I said and he reluctantly let go.

I immediately slammed the bathroom door in his face and sighed. You could say I was bad at reading the room and say the most unbelievable thing at the worst times.

Though it was true that I needed to pee, it was also an excuse in other to get away from him for a bit and collect my thoughts.

I turned to look at the bathroom and was immediately blinded by its size. It was so big, white and cool.

This place was as big as my bedroom. How was it a bathroom?

There was a big bathtub that was the size of a bed, the toilet seats were so fancy and white. The material used in making it was probably expensive.

Well, what would I expect from a master such as himself?

Come to think of it, who was he?

I had all the time to think as I sat on the toilet seat while pondering on my current circumstances.

He doesn't believe a word I say. He believes I am Eve no matter what I say. He wants to claim me. He won't let me go.

It was all the same thing.

I reached for my lips and touched it. He took my first kiss in such a rough way.

Yes, I, Ava, who has lived for over 23 years was just having my first kiss. The reasons were, that I was never interested in dating any boy and Eve acted as a perfect shield for that.

I was an introvert who would rather stay at home, watching TV and reading books than go out to hang out with friends or anyone for that matter.

The only times I had ever gone out to play was when Eve came back from her 'trips'. She'd practically drag me out of the house while leaving my two younger siblings with the helper and my dad.

She was always there for me. Always, protecting me, comforting me, loving me. It was crazy how I, the elder one, couldn't take care of my younger ones and had her doing it all for me but she did not complain.

And it hurt me to know she never complained, and that she suffered inwardly while smiling outwardly at me.

Tears rippled down my cheeks, whereas the guy outside clutched onto a piece of note to his face and gritted his teeth as tears rolled down his cheeks as well.

We were both crying for the same person but neither of us knew that.

This circle we were getting ourselves into, I wished it wouldn't end both of us.
