Chapter 9: The Desperate Escape
Winnie's head spun as she came to, her mother's frantic voice piercing the air. "Winnie, wake up! We have to get out of here!"
Groggily, Winnie sat up, her eyes adjusting to the dim light of the alley. The detective was struggling to free himself from the wreckage, his face bloody and bruised.
"Come on, Winnie!" her mother urged, pulling her to her feet. "We have to keep moving!"
Winnie's heart raced as they stumbled through the alley, the sound of Victor's men closing in. They burst through a side door and found themselves in a crowded market, the perfect place to lose their pursuers.
But as they weaved through the stalls, Winnie's mother suddenly stopped, her eyes fixed on something ahead. Winnie followed her gaze and saw Victor himself, his eyes locked onto them with a sinister grin.
Winnie's heart skipped a beat as Victor began to move towards them, his eyes gleaming with a sinister intensity. Her mother's grip on her hand tightened, and together they pushed through the crowd, desperate to escape.
But Victor was too quick. He grabbed Winnie's arm, his fingers digging deep into her skin. "You're not going anywhere," he sneered, his breath hot on her face.
Winnie's mother fought back, but Victor's men overpowered her, dragging her away as Winnie struggled to free herself. She was trapped, at Victor's mercy.
Just as all hope seemed lost, a figure burst into the market, sending stalls crashing to the ground. It was James, his eyes blazing with determination.
"Let her go, Victor," he growled, his fists clenched.
Victor sneered, but James was undeterred. With a fierce cry, he launched himself at Victor, the two men crashing to the ground in a flurry of punches and kicks.
