Chapter 9: A Surprise Visit from Old Man Wellington

The morning sun shone over the lively city of New York, casting a gentle radiance on Aiden's grand residenceMarina woke up early still with the thought of what had happened the previous day fresh in her mind. She was feeling a little relieved, angry and yet a least a ray of hope. An appeal to protect her was what Aiden had given her some sense of protection that she had not had in a while.

She took a shower, put on her clothes and went down the stair, to the kitchen where a lot of activity was going on. The staff tent to her kindly and in return she was also friendly and smiling at them. At that moment she was looking at her cup of coffee and a note that was being handed to her by Mr. Harrison, the butler.

"Good morning, Miss Marina," Mr. Harrison greeted her with a bow then followed suit by bowing. "You have a visitor scheduled for today. Mr. Wellington will be arriving shortly."

Marina's heart skipped a beat. Aiden's grandfather was coming. to visit? She had heard about the reputation of Old Man Wellington - a considerate yet uncompromising man who commanded respect wherever he went. She was curious about what he wanted and whether he would approve of her.

"Thank you, Mr. Harrison," Marina responded, trying to maintain a steady voice. "I'll be prepared to meet him."

As she savored her coffee, Marina's mind raced. She had to create a positive impression. This visit could be crucial for her future with AidenAfter quickly finishing her breakfast, she headed to the living room with great anticipation for the arrival of her imposing visitor.

Sometime later, there was the sound of the doorbell ringing. By the time the door opened again, a tall and dignified man was coming in and when Mr Harrison extend his hand for a shake, Marina felt her heart pounding fast in her chest. Old Man Wellington's presence was commanding, yet she was taken aback by the warmth in his eyes.

"Are you Marina, I assume?" he inquired, his voice deep and resonant.

Marina stood up, offering a polite smile. "Yes, sirOld Man Wellington observed her for a moment, his gaze penetrating. "I'm delighted to make your acquaintance."Then, to her relief, he smiled and extended his hand.

"Likewise, my dear. I've heard a lot about you."

Marina shook his hand, feeling a mixture of nervousness and curiosity. "I hope it's all good things."

Old Man Wellington chuckled. "Mostly. But I prefer to form my own opinions. Shall we sit and talk?"

They took a seat, and Marina felt surprisingly relaxed in his company. His demeanor emitted a reassuring combination of authority and kindness.

"Marina, I must acknowledge the way you've handled this situation," he began."Marrying Aiden was a brave decision, and I respect your courage."

Marina blushed slightly. "Sir, I appreciate your support. Although it was a difficult choice, I believed it was the best decision at that moment."

Old Man Wellington nodded thoughtfully. "I understand. And I must commend you for standing up to Jayden and Amira. They've caused more trouble than they're worth."

Marina's eyes widened in surprise. "You know about that?"

"Of course. There's little that happens in this family that escapes my notice," he said with a wry smile. "But enough about them. I want to know more about you, Marina. Tell me about your upbringing, your family."

Marina breathed in deeply, as she collected her thoughtsHer story was about her parents abandoning her due to her illness, her upbringing by her grandmother in rural areas, and the difficulties she faced while growing up. Old Man Wellington listened intently, nodding occasionally.

"You've been through a lot," he said finally. "But it seems to have made you stronger."

Marina smiled softly. "I've had to be strong. Life hasn't been easy, but I've learned to persevere."

Old Man Wellington's eyes sparkled with approval. "Good. Strength and resilience are qualities we value in this family. I believe you'll be a good match for Aiden."

Marina felt a surge of relief and gratitude. "Thank you, sir. That means a lot to me."

His face grew solemn as he leaned in Marina, please remember one fact and that is I am here to encourage you. As far as the above requirements are concerned related to the company, you may contact me at any time you want." We're family now."

Marina's eyes filled with tears. "Thank you. I appreciate that more than you know."

Old Man Wellington reached out and patted her hand gently. "You're welcome, my dear. Now, I believe Aiden should be home soon. I'd like to see the two of you together."

Marina agreed, experiencing a feeling of excitement. She had been eager for an opportunity to have a conversation with Aiden about their future, and this appeared to be the ideal moment.

As they waited, Marina and Old Man Wellington continued to talk. He recounted anecdotes from his younger days, his ascent to authority, and the obstacles he encountered during his journey. Marina became enthralled by his stories, gaining a deeper insight into the man who had molded the Wellington empire.

An hour later, the noise of the front door opening indicated Aiden's arrival. Stepping into the living room, he appeared weary but composed. His eyes widened in astonishment upon seeing his grandfather seated with Marina.

"Grandfather," Aiden remarked, his voice laced with respect and curiosity. "I didn't anticipate your presence."

Old Man Wellington stood up, smiling warmly. "Aiden, my boy. I decided to pay a visit and see how things are going. Marina has been a delightful host."

Aiden looked at Marina, with a touch of astonishment in his gaze. "I'm pleased to hear that."

Old Man Wellington rested a hand on Aiden's shoulder. "Aiden, I'm pleased with you. You've made a smart decision in marrying Marina. "She's a remarkable young woman."

Aiden's expression softened, and he nodded. "Thank you, Grandfather."

Old Man Wellington looked between them, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "I'll leave you two to talk. Marina, it was a pleasure meeting you. Remember, my offer stands."

Marina stood up, smiling gratefully. "Thank you, sir. I won't forget."

With a final nod, Old Man Wellington left the room, leaving Marina and Aiden alone. There was a moment of silence as they regarded each other, both unsure of what to say.

Finally, Aiden spoke. "You made quite an impression on my grandfather."

Marina smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. "He's a remarkable man."I understand where you find your strength and determination,"

Aiden averted his eyes, showing a fleeting emotion on his face. "I have gained a lot of knowledge from him."

There was a brief silence, then Marina moved closer to Aiden. "Aiden, I acknowledge that we've had a difficult beginning, but I want to make an effort to build a successful relationship. I want to comprehend you better and be a true partner in this marriage."

Aiden locked eyes with her, his deep gaze studying her face. "Marina, I... I'm not accustomed to allowing people into my life."My world is complicated, and I've built walls to protect myself."

Marina reached out, gently touching his arm. "I understand. But we're in this together now. We need to support each other."

Aiden's expression softened, and he nodded slowly. "You're right. We do."

Marina sensed a spark of optimism. Perhaps this indicated the beginning of a new stage in their relationship, built on mutual understanding and support. She understood that it wouldn't be easy, but she was willing to try.

As they stayed in that moment, a sense of togetherness developing between them, the doorbell rang once again.. Marina's heart sank, fearing it might be Jayden or Amira causing more trouble. But Mr. Harrison appeared, a calm expression on his face.

"Mr. Aiden, Miss Marina, there's another visitor for you," he announced.

Marina and Aiden exchanged a puzzled look. Who could it be this time?

"Show them in," Aiden said, his voice steady.

A young woman walked into the room soon after. She had incredibly striking looks, with dark black hair and intense blue eyes. The confidence in her walk made Marina feel uneasy.

"Hi, Aiden," the woman greeted in a smooth, soft voice. "It's been quite some time."

Aiden's eyes narrowed in response. "Amira."

Marina's heart pounded. What was Amira doing here?

Amira's gaze shifted to Marina, a cold smile playing on her lips. "Marina, darling. It's good to see you."

Marina forced herself to remain calm. "What do you want, Amira?"

Amira's grin grew bigger" I have come to wish you well on the new tie you have taken for yourself You should know this but know that I am here for you always."

Aiden stepped forward, his expression fierce. "Amira, leave. Now."

Amira's smile didn't waver. "Oh, Aiden. Always so protective. But you can't keep me away forever. We have unfinished business."

Marina's heart raced with a mix of fear and determination. She wouldn't let Amira intimidate her. She stepped forward, her voice steady. "Amira, you're not welcome here. Leave us alone."

Amira's eyes glinted with malice. "Very well. But remember, Marina, I'm always watching."

With that, Amira turned and walked out, leaving a tense silence in her wake.

Aiden looked at Marina, his expression filled with concern. "Are you okay?"

Marina breathed in deeply and nodded. "Yes, I won't allow her to intimidate me."

Aiden looked at her with more tender eyes and took her hand into his own. "We'll face this together, Marina. You're not alone."

Marina felt a surge of gratitude and hope. Despite the challenges and threats, she knew she had Aiden by her side. Together, they could overcome anything.

Staring at each other like that, Marina was able to feel the developing bond between them – between her and the man, and between them and their determination to do something. She could not get the impression that this was the beginning of something that was really big. The time ahead held the promise of strength and love.
