Chapter 2 The cursed child

Nobody was ready to touch the baby because they were all scared, they were murmuring and wondering why she would give birth to such a monstrous being, then one of the hunters came up and said to everyone "he was cursed" they looked at him wondering what he was saying and he told them "A Luna witch cursed Cage's descendants and seeing that this child is the only descendant of Cage he was cursed to be a wolf".

Everyone gasped surprised at what is going on, then one of the widowed women said "the child is now an orphan so what do we do, do we send him to the wolves whom his father tried to kill and he was cursed or what?" nobody had an answer to the question then someone said "I will raise him".

Then looked around trying to find who said it, then they saw a young man walk towards them, one of the hunters asked "who are you?" and he said "my name is Lorelei, I am a friend of the child's father and since no one wants to care for him, I will stay here and raise him.

One of the villagers there said "stay here, with that cursed child? It's not possible we all live in this village with our families, letting that monster grow up amongst our children will come back to bite us in the future". One of the hunters asked then "what do we do then?", a villager said "we need to cast the child out of the village and send him to where he belongs with the wolves".

One of the hunters who was a close friend of Cage said "think about the sacrifice his father made for us all to be here would he like it if we send his only child away like this" the wife of the hunter said "that is the father after all he is the reason the child is cursed in the first place, nobody will take this child in so I ask that we send the child away" her husband was about to speak then she held his hand and whispered to him "if you keep insisting on this I would take your daughters away and go to my home town so decide" so he kept quiet.

Lorelei went in and brought the baby out and they moved back, they were scared because the baby was hairy like a wolf, then he started giggling and then turned into a normal human baby.

Lorelei told the villagers not to worry that he was going to handle the responsibility of the baby so he left with the baby. He walked deep into the woods for two days and then he got to the wolf cave, they opened the entrance for him and he went in to see the Alpha with the baby in a wrap he hanged around himself.

The Alpha king saw him and went to embrace him, he said to him "Welcome back brother I was so worried, how was your journey" as Lorelei replied the Alpha noticed the child in Lorelei's hand, and he asked whose child it is, Lorelei told everything to Alpha and he said to Lorelei "as much as I would want to take pity on this child and take him in, the sins of his father is such that I can't even forget it, it just happened two days ago, families are hurting from the loss of their loved ones how do I tell them to accept the child of the man that caused all that pain to then".

Lorelei asked "so what do you want me to do?" Alpha told him "I am sorry but you would have to leave this child to his own fate, whatever happens, happens"

Lorelei said "I am sorry I can't leave this child to suffer, and you know he doesn't deserve this, the fight between the villagers and us was caused by us, when Cage came to the council to complain about the serial killings of the villagers in the woods by wolves what did you do to stop it, nothing!! And when they retaliated to protect themselves, his child Is placed with a curse".

Alpha angrily shouts at Lorelei and told him "So what!! What's done is done and there is nothing we can do about it but this child is not one of us, he is a product of a curse not a wolf from birth" Lorelei challenged and said "he is one of us and he is a wolf from birth curse or no curse".

Alpha calms down and puts his hands on Lorelei's shoulder and he said to him "you are my family and family will always come first, so please don't put me in a position to choose between you and the clan because as hard as it will be you know whom I will choose".

Lorelei said to him, "Fine, do whatever you want and I will do whatever I want, but I will raise this child even if I have to travel far and wide, I must create a home for this child, a home he was deprived of because of us".

Lorelei looked at Alpha one last time before he left and said "goodbye brother" tears filled both their eyes, Alpha watched as Lorelei left, then memories of their childhood, how he always took care of Lorelei after their parents passed away and how happy Lorelei was when he was made the Lycan Chief.

Lorelei left the gates protecting the wolf's den and he wandered for days until he came across an old wretched looking mansion, when he walked in everywhere was dark, and then the baby snapped his hands and there was light everywhere in the house. Lorelei was shocked at what just happened then he realized that being cursed by the Luna witch the baby also possesses the powers of the witch.

He walked in and for everything they walked pass it was well arranged, the house and furniture's arranged itself and fresh food was automatically provided in the fridge. Lorelei took the baby upstairs and placed him on the well-arranged bed and said to him "I promised you I was going to provide a home for you and that is what I would do, from today you name is Xander meaning 'defender of the people' just like how your father defended his village so shall you defend those who can't protect and defend themselves, he raises the baby up and calls him his full name Xander Cage and the baby started giggling.

Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months and Lorelei watched little Xander grow into a handsome young hardworking man. One of the days, Xander went into the village it felt weird to him because other than the plants and trees he grew up around, the only other human he has seen was Lorelei, so it was a little strange.

As he walked through the market, the young ladies who saw him couldn't take their eyes off him, they were throwing themselves at him, even people's wives who would have thought that Xander the same young man they are drooling over is the same child they called cursed twenty-five years ago.
