Chapter 3 WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WHO

Later that night, while Kendrick was already sound asleep with Amelia in his arms, his phone rang. Not wanting to wake Amelia, Kendrick took the call outside the room.

"Yes."

"Kendrick! How could you leave us without even a word?!" Beryl whined.

"Something came up," Kendrick replied.

"Nerissa is so drunk. I even forgot to take care of her best friend." When Kendrick heard Beryl's words, he asked, "Why do you need to take care of her?"

"Because before the party started, Nerissa made me promise to take care of Amelia because she doesn't drink and dance, while my sister knew she would be drunk after the party.

But who would have thought that she would drink too much? I was so shocked to see how drunk she was that I sent her home, completely forgetting about Amelia! When I went back to find her, she was gone. My sister will kill me if something happens to her!"

"I see, anything else?"

"No, I just wanted to know if everything is alright on your side since you left without notice."

"Then, I'm hanging up."

Kendrick dialed his phone.

Alu was already in dreamland when the call suddenly awakened him. As Kendrick's chief assistant, he must be on call 24/7.

"Sir."

"Investigate what happened to Amelia at the club; I want to know who drugged her. I want every detail first thing in the morning. And buy a new set of clothes for her and send it here."

"Understood, Sir."

Kendrick went back to bed and held Amelia back in his arms.

Amelia looks tiny under his arm. Kendrick is 6 feet 2 inches tall and has a well-toned body, while Amelia is only 5 feet 4 inches.

When Amelia woke up, her head was heavy, but what shocked her was Kendrick's face, which was looking at her.

"You don't remember what happened?" Kendrick asked.

Amelia, still puzzled and with red ears, blinks her eyes several times, her eyelashes flapping like a butterfly while staring at Kendrick, which makes him chuckle.

"You were drugged. Do you have any idea who did it to you?"

Amelia still couldn't utter a single word as she stared at him. Her heart is pounding so hard that she feels it would jump out of her chest anytime.

"You still don't remember what happened? Would you like me to show you to remind you?"

"You!" Amelia yelped and instantly sat up.

"Oh, I thought you lost your tongue." Kendrick jokingly said with a smile.

"Come here." Kendrick pulled her again and tucked Amelia in his arm.

"I will take responsibility for you. But do you regret it?" Kendrick truly wants to know.

"I'm sorry; it was my fault. Thank you for saving me." Amelia, at age 26, is mature compared to Nerissa. She is not unreasonable and would put her fingers on other people to blame. "I won't compel you to take responsibility for what happened."

"Oh, really? Then, I will hold you responsible for me." Kendrick replied.

"You!" Amelia once again sat up to stare at Kendrick. "It was my first time!"

"It was my first, too!" Kendrick retorted.

"...."

Amelia couldn't seem to believe what she had just heard. She stared at Kendrick as if his words weren't human language; she was dazed.

"So, should I take responsibility? Or you?" Kendrick said as he sat up, putting his face in front of Amelias and lightly holding on to her chin.

"Hm?"

With Kendrick's face right in front of hers, Amelias' lashes consecutively flapped again, mesmerizing Kendrick and giving her a smack on her lips, which surprised Amelia.

"You, you are making fun of me," Amelia said with pouty lips.

"Ha ha ha..." Kendrick laughed, looking at her aggrieved face.

"Come here," Kendrick said, drawing her back beside him to bed.

While caressing her hair, "Tell me, do you have anyone in mind who did it to you?"

Amelia shook her head. "I also didn't recognize the person who was pulling me last night."

"Don't worry; I will look into it." Kendrick gave his assurance.

"Um, thank you."

"What's your plan for today?"

Amelia shook her head. Truly, her mind is blank, realizing her overwhelming current situation.

"I remembered Beryl mentioned you and Nerissa are planning to attend the charity auction tonight."

Hearing the charity auction, Amelia instantly sat up again.

"Do you always have to be jumpy?" Her act made Kendrick chuckle.

"You are laughing at me." Amelia aggrievedly said.

"Can you stay still in my arms and not sit up hastily every time I say something?" Kendrick once again pulled her towards him.

"So, are you and Nerissa going to the auction tonight?"

"Yes, I have been waiting for this day."

"What do you want to see?"

"I saw the catalog from Nerissa; there is this ruby necklace. I truly want to see it."

"I can take you there."

"But... but... what should I tell Nerissa?"

"We can meet them there."

"But..." Before Amelia could finish her words.

"Are you afraid they will know about us?"

Amelia didn't know what to answer. Everything happened so fast.

"Whatever your decision, I will support you," Kendrick said. He knew Amelia was very young for his age, but Kendrick was not afraid to face anyone or anything.

But he would respect whatever Amelia decides, whether she is willing to disclose their relationship or not. But one thing is sure: no one can take her away from him from this moment on.

"Can you give me time?' Amelia asked.

"Sure. Um, Amelia, where are your parents?" Kendrick wants to know more about her and her family. Knowing he wanted to be with her, he knew he should face his future parent-in-law.

Amelias' only answer was, "They work abroad."

Kendrick realized she didn't want to say anything further, so he would wait until she was willing to tell him more. "Do you live alone?"

"Um."

"Do you have a brother or a sister?"

Amelia shook her head.

"Why don't you move in with me?"

Amelia once again sat up rigorously, surprising Kendrick, but eventually made him laugh.

"Are you always this tense?" Kendrick laughingly asked.

"You! How can I move in with you? We are not married!"

"Oh, then we can do it now."

"...."

"You!" Amelia retorted, pointing her finger at Kendrick.

"What? Don't you want to be responsible for me anymore?" Kendrick naughtily asked.

"I didn't expect the legendary Kendrick Yang to be such a flirt."

Kendrick yanked Amelia and pinned her under him.

"Who is flirting? Let me show you how I flirt." Kendrick started to kiss Amelia.

"You! Stop. OK, you are not flirting!" Amelia got nervous.

With Amelia under his body, he looks deeply into her eyes, "Amelia, let me be responsible for you. Marry me."

"But we hardly knew each other."

"We have all our lives to get to know each other."

"Oh," was Amelia's curt answer.

"Oh? Is that a yes?"

Amelia gazed steadily at the man before her, her mind swirling with conflicting thoughts. 'What else can I possibly want?' she silently mused. Despite the marked difference in their ages, she found herself contemplating, 'Who could possibly compare to him? We find ourselves in this intricate situation. I would be marrying someone in the future too. Why shouldn't I consider marrying him? It seems almost fated,' she contemplated, her thoughts intertwining with uncertainty and apprehension.

"Amelia?" Kendrick called her name and looked deeply into her eyes.

"OK," Amelia murmured.

"Amelia, that is a yes, right?" Kendrick was ecstatic and wanted affirmation.

"Yeah." Amelia nodded.

"Amelia, I promise I will love and cherish you; I will protect you with my life," Kendrick pledged.

"Um, I will do the same."

"No need, you just do whatever you want and be my adorable, happy little wife." Kendrick pinched her little nose and started to kiss her.

"Amelia... Can we do it again? Please?"

Amelia, looking at his puppy eyes, was amused and stared at him, flapping her eyes.

"I will take that as a yes." Kendrick excitedly said and started to ravish her.
