Chapter 7 Seven

On the other hand, when she started to be eroded by the river, she started to think that Ray's good attitude might just be camouflage. This man may be deliberately cultivating the impression that he is a good man, making it easy to make a woman go weak in the knees.

Sorry to say, Alexa will not be fooled again.

Acting to pretend to be nice and seductive turns out to be more difficult than her imagined.

The mission failed miserably.

"Where is your home? I'll take you," Ray offered as soon as the elevator almost reached its destination.

"No need, Mr. Sanders. I can't bother you any more."

Ray frowned. "Just call me Ray, I don't think our ages are much different. I'll call you Alexa."

"Okay, Ray, how old are you?"

"I'm 29 years old this year. How about you?"

"I'm 26."

Ray looked surprised. "Wow, that's quite a young age to have a 4 year old child."

Alexa just shrugged. "You can say that."

'Who made me like this, you bastard?!' she cursed in her heart.

Compared to business partners, they looked like they were going through the introductory phase of their parents' arranged marriage. This awkwardness is so natural. Alexa wanted to vomit.

The sound of the elevator arriving was an oasis for her. Even though she didn't ask, Ray seemed to deliberately let other people go first before leading her out. Well, he is such a gentleman, but she obviously wouldn't be interested in his fake gesture. The elevator lead directly to the lobby and the air here was piercingly cold. What a shame, she has to wear a skimpy dress like this.

'Damn you, Jane!'

"I'll take the car in a moment, wait here."

"No need, Ray. I'm serious."

"Taking a taxi at night isn't always safe, and you're a woman."

Alexa immediately racked her brains. Safe or not, it felt like a taxi was better than having to share a car with him. "My friend can pick me up, I think he's around here."

Ray relented. "Okay, I'll go first then. Be careful."

"Sure."

Even though he said he would go home first, in fact Ray didn't immediately do that. Instead he remained silent in his red car and slumped his back against the back of the seat. He didn't have anything important on his mind, but the image of Alexa just entered his brain.

Indeed, at first he was only being nice because they were colleagues, everything was just influenced by business. It was just that the attitude shown by her felt strange to him. Usually women would try hard to impress him at all costs, but Alexa, she openly showed that she was a sharp-mouthed woman.

This is very funny.

Without realizing that half an hour had almost passed, Ray immediately turned his car around and left the parking basement. He deliberately passed by the restaurant lobby to make sure Alexa had left, and that the woman had really left. However, when he left the restaurant yard, he found her still on the side of the road.

"Come up." Ray opened the tinted windows of his car and noticed how Alexa was shivering slightly because of the night air. "Don't refuse anymore, you might freeze to death."

Her eyes shifted uncomfortably.

Ray got down to open the passenger door while facing her directly. "You might have no problem coming home too late, but what about Fillo?"

She was still stubborn even though the door had been opened wide.

"My friend will probably—"

Before she finished her sentence, her hand was grabbed by him, and she was pushed in rather forcefully. His head poked through the door.

"You can wait inside. Night air is not good for your health." Ray got into the driver's seat and turned on the heater. "Wear this suit."

"You don't need to bother like this, I'm actually used to being alone."

Ray replied, "Men can't be called manly if they leave women alone on the side of the road."

"Do I look so cheap standing on the side of the road?"

"I didn't say that."

"I'm asking you."

Somewhat furious, Ray finally confronted her. "Why do you seem to be avoiding me so much? Do I really look like your ex?"

The roadside lights were dim and vehicles rarely passed by. The silence made her felt even colder under his demanding eyes. In fact, even though she tried not to sow hatred, her mouth was unknowingly doing that.

She sighed. "Sorry, maybe I have offended you with my character."

"Rather than be offended, I was just wondering."

The yellow light from a nearby lamp shone through the windshield, directly illuminating the side of Ray's handsome face. The thin hairs of his beard regularly cast a shadow on the other side of his face. Even though she hated him to death, she still couldn't lie to herself that this man was very charming.

She looked down. "I have a bit of trauma with men. I didn't mean to be unpleasant at all, it was probably instinct."

"I think I understand your situation, I also want to apologize."

"For what?"

Alexa turned her head and found Ray leaning completely on the car seat. The shadow of the lamp hid part of his tall and straight body. His face was straight ahead, bathed in soft light.

After being silent for a long time, Ray finally answered, "Last time at a clothing store, I harassed you. I'm so sorry."

Instead of remembering the rape he committed five years ago, Ray instead remembers something quite trivial. How many things does he always want to hide? Did she really think wrongly about the perpetrator?

No! Impossible!

She was absolutely sure that the man that night was Ray Sanders, even though she was on the verge of consciousness, she would never forget Ray's bearded face. She even still had his business card he had left for her.

"You want to forgive me, right?" His voice broke her silence.

"It's not a big deal anymore. We're business partners now. I shouldn't get so emotional."

"It's natural for women to be emotional. That's a unique trait of most women."

Alexa shrugged.

"It's too late, I'd better take you home," Ray started the car without consent. "You can't make excuses this time."

"So I'm that predictable?"

Ray didn't confirm or deny, the car engine roared on the asphalt road with a low sound. Half an hour later they arrived at her house which was not far from the main road. On the right and left of the housing complex, it appeared that several lights have been turned on, the light was very bright.

He went down to open the door. "That's your house?"

She was struggling to move when the tip of her heel got caught underneath her. "Yes," she answered.

"Why aren't the lights on?"

Without hearing her answer, Ray was suddenly shocked because his body was pulled down. Because it was too sudden, he couldn't maintain his balance, but his hand managed to find the handle at the end of the door. He couldn't say a word when the distance between him and Alexa was too small, especially since their lips touched in a stiff position for a moment.

"What are you doing?!" Alexa covered her mouth with her slender fingers.

Ray cleared his throat. "I should be the one asking. You suddenly pulled my body and I fell."

This scene looked like they had experienced it somewhere, except that at that time they didn't kiss.

After stammering for a while, she sighed. "My leg got stuck under me, when I was about to stand up I fell, accidentally pulling you. So, it's my fault, sorry for shouting."

Without answering her, Ray squatted down to check her feet. The laces attached to his legs were gently removed. She stiffened when Ray's fingers touched her skin, this man was like electricity. He didn't even mind lifting her feet out of the car first. Apparently the tip of her shoe heel was really stuck.

"You don't seem used to wearing heels," Ray commented.

"Yeah."

After fiddling for a while, the heels came out. A little scratched. "Don't wear shoes that are too high if you feel uncomfortable."

Alexa, who had been standing on one leg, just submitted when Ray helped put on the shoe, even tying the laces neatly. The man's movements were even very gentle and caring.

Alexa didn't understand whether this was his true or fake nature.

"What a lucky woman to be your girlfriend right now, Ray. You're so caring." Alexa made small talk.

Who would have thought that Ray would give a faint smile. "I hope she feels that way."

What was meant was definitely a woman named Hailey Tatum and Alexa didn't feel like continuing the topic of conversation any further. She said, "She must be a lucky woman to have you."

'If only she didn't know that you are a rotten man, Ray. But ... soon she will definitely dump you,' added Alexa to herself.

... to be continued ...
