Chapter 6 Six

As she had expected, Ray would answer that they had just met. He was quite stubborn. Maybe she needs to take off her heels and stick them on his head so he remembers?

"I don't understand why you insist on saying that we know each other?" His voice slowed down at the end, he drank his wine calmly as if no conversation had ever occurred.

"Maybe I have the wrong person," Alexa shrugged.

"Not 'maybe' but you really have the wrong person," he confirmed. "Look, I just came back from Canada. I lived there for five years."

"Oh, for work?"

In fact, she didn't like the topic, she didn't like all the information about him, but he seemed happy that he talked a lot about himself. Their work discussion had finished a while ago, and she was settling in because he said he would treat her to a meal.

"Not completely. There's a personal thing or two I need to take care of."

"Personal? Going on holiday with your fiancé?"

Her words sounded rude in front of people who had just met each other, even though she had no intention of giving a bad impression.

Instead, she had to flirt with Ray, right?

She thought, 'This isn't going to work, Jane.'

"Sorry, forget I ever asked." She changed the position of her legs gracefully, making the open part of her dress reveal her thighs. "I'm confused about what to say."

Then she was also confused about why she had to apologize.

"I understand that you're a little bored." Ray nodded. "After eating dessert, we will end this chat."

She filled the temporary silence to peek into the contents of her handbag as a diversion. The waiter suddenly came to bring a mini three-course dessert, all sweet. Without being asked, Alexa took a plate of cake and put it in her mouth; the soft taste of cotton immediately spread to the roof of her mouth.

"It's good," she muttered absently.

"That's cloudy bread, recommendation here." Ray proudly said. "The head chef of this restaurant is an old friend of mine from college, he's quite a great person."

"I've never eaten anything like this."

"Want me to order more? You can order whatever you want, I'll pay for it all. You can also order take away."

"What an annoying rich man." Alexa grumbled involuntarily.

"Pardon?"

Absurdly, she continued, "Those rich men are always annoying. Flirting with women by saying; 'I'll pay for everything you buy ... or, you can take whatever you want, I'll pay for everything' and proudly making the women bend the knee before throwing them away like bones."

Ray fell silent under her annoyed gaze, completely feeling like he didn't understand what was in the heart of the woman in front of him. Her appearance is not very striking and perhaps a bit tomboyish, her mouth is sometimes sharp like the tip of a thin needle. Based on her character, she was probably a woman who was used to living hard.

"You can't generalize about all rich men. I think I'm a pretty responsible man." Ray started eating his dessert.

Her forehead furrowed deeply. "Well, you look quite promising."

"What do you mean?"

"Huh? What? Nothing."

Slowly the fork that Ray was holding was placed back on the plate. His gaze was straight at her.

"Could it be that you are comparing the man who hurt you to me?"

Alexa blinked.

"Earlier, you insisted on saying that we might know each other. Are your ex and I that similar?"

Alexa, 'That man is you, damn it!'

Not answering immediately, she wiped her lips with a napkin regularly. Her body moved forward until her stomach hit the edge of the table. Deliberately lowering her chest exposing her cleavage to the front. This position was very ambiguous, like a prostitute. However, Jane said this was her favorite position to attract men's attention because at that time their gaze was very minimal.

"How could I think that you two are the same, Mr. Sanders? You are a kind and charming man. Moreover, you are polite with women."

Ray's eyebrows rose. "Thank you for your complement."

Unexpectedly by her, the man stood up and took his suit with too fast a movement. Her brain still hadn't registered properly when the suit flew past her head and draped over her bare shoulders.

"I think the air conditioning here is so cold and your clothes are quite revealing." Ray called the waiter after doing that. Alexa was stunned. "I ordered several boxes of dessert for take away. How old is your child, Mrs. Greisy? It's a boy or girl?"

"Four, a little boy," answered Alexa, still in a daze.

The sounds around her suddenly gathered together to form a huge whirlwind. She subconsciously rubbed the fabric of the suit, the texture was soft, fragrant with masculine perfume.

Then several paperbags appeared on her table, right after she came to her senses.

"Some of this food is for you. Think of it as a gift for our cooperation."

"I don't think it's necessary." She sat up straight, the suit falling from her shoulders.

In this situation, a strange feeling suddenly came over her, so to distract her brain, she took the suit slowly. Still stubborn about highlighting her cleavage. She didn't believe that Ray is not interested in her sexiness, or maybe she is just too dorky to be admired?

"It's no trouble at all, Mrs. Greisy."

Ray took the suit offered by her, the man's hand touched her fingers without realizing it. As if having a stun effect, she withdrew as fast as lightning.

"That suit is too expensive for my cheap shoulder," quipped Alexa suddenly.

"You're not cheap. I think you're quite a great woman. Why do you always put yourself down?"

"Sometimes I really have low self-esteem."

Ray grabbed the paperbag on the table and took her out of the place. "Humility doesn't always end well. You can be stepped on by others."

The two of them walked hand in hand into the elevator, before the door slowly closed, hiding their private conversation into the air.

As the elevator began to descend, Ray's expressionless face was reflected in the steel doors. On the other hand, he seemed to be guarding her when another visitor entered the elevator. His huge body affected her presence so that it couldn't be seen.

Ray glanced over his shoulder. "Please hold this bag."

In the middle of the fairly full elevator, Alexa glanced down and saw his hand. Take the paper bag. "You don't need—"

Her words were muffled when his body turned and they faced each other.

"You can refuse, but I gave the cake to your son."

"Then thank you."

From start to finish, she realized that even though he spoke sweetly, there was never a smile on his face. There is only the impression of being firm and cold, like a mature, masculine man.

"What is your son's name?" Ray asked.

Alexa was silent for a moment before answering, "Fillo."

"Pretty cute name."

The narrow elevator took a very long time to get down. Their conversation could be said to be just unimportant small talk. Alexa knew that Ray was trying hard to break the ice, but she didn't expect that as they chatted, she discovered her interest in his character.

... to be continued ...
